RE: Cheapest a/c for 9.6 camper?

Polar cub is the hot ticket for a TC in my opinion. Very easy to install and a perfect match for the Honda EU2000. Installation is simple and would be far easier than cobbling in a window unit.

RE: Rear view cameras

I have a wired one. I had it before I had the TC and used it on my large 5th wheel TH. If i would not have had it before I doubt I would have bought it for the TC or may have opted for a cheaper wireless type. That said I am glad I have it and it works great. Really nice to keep an eye on the boat behind me and make hookup to the trailer super easy as I can see and hear the person behind me guiding me.

Name the one thing you don't carry...

.....that most others do. I have another thread running going in the other direction asking what you carry that you could get by without but just refuse to do so. In this thread list something you don't carry that many others do.
First on my list here is a TV.

RE: Name one thing you carry.......

Wow before I started this topic I thought the chairs were my only real excessive luxury.....Now after reading this I realize I also carry many of the items others have listed. I am also guilty of the beer, wife dog, fishing poles, grill, EZ up etc! I am going to start a new topic and go in the opposite direction. Keep posting folks it is interesting to see what some just can't do without.

Name one thing you carry.......

....that you didn't compromise on to save space in your TC. Us TCers always have to be storage and weight minded and many times carry smaller items than others do because of this. For fun name one thing that you carry that you could really get by without or could use something that would serve the purpose that is lighter or smaller but you simply will not give up and feel that it is worth the effort to bring along.
For us it is the 2 Lafuma type reclining chairs we got from Sams. What is your guilty pleasure?

RE: Exterior cleaning - what to use?,.....

I always smile when I read about guys waxing their campers. I mean more power to you but IMO there is a much easier way for filon/fiberglass. It is called 303 aerospace protectant. You can use it on everything on the outside of your camper. It is drastically easier/faster to do than waxing and IMO provides better protection and lasts longer. One gallon is over $60 bucks but it will last for several year. Any black steaks of bugs on front just wash right off and it only takes a minute to recoat the front splatter zone before a trip. I'll never wax my camper or boat again and you won't either after you try it.Larry my BEER BUDDY, is 303 really THAT good? I have read a few posts over the years about it but I would believe you since we are linked for life by COLD BEER :B
Yes it is. I was skeptical until I tried it, but it works as advertised and is a true labor saver. On the beer note I'm ready for some warm weather so the salt can once again be used in the ice for beer!

RE: Loading - Any "self centering" ideas?

Back when I first got my TC I had all kinds of ideas from self centering blocks to laser pointers. Problem was after i got loaded each time I never gave it much thought until I needed to do it again! Soon I forgot all about it and just back under it as I had, by then, learned to do with ease. I doubt you will see many (serious)fisherman with the magnetic hitch sticks or tailgate mirrors when backing up to their boat trailer. Just be slow and patient until the skill develops.

RE: need advice for a potential buyer

845s are great campers. Mine is the same as the 845 just the sportsman edition. Not mentioned here is that you need a nice thick rubber bed mat in the bed to keep the camper from sliding around. On Fords such as yours be careful of the cabover to cab clearance. I know many guys with Fords have put 1" foam board in their beds on top of the bed mat or glued the foam board to the bottom of the camper to give enough clearance over the cab to prevent camper cab contact on rough roads or offroad.
I had a large fifth wheel I pulled with the same truck I have prior to getting the TC. The truck will have a very noticable top heavy feel at first until you get used to it due to the weight being higher. You will quickly get used to it. Wind drag will be more noticable and side winds will be much more noticeable than with the 5th wheel. Fuel mileage will be a little better with the TC especially if you keep your speed down due to less overall weight being pulled.

RE: moisture/humidity advice

Keep the cabover vent cracked open about an inch and use a small electric heater on the floor. I use my Honda EU2000 with a 6 gallon boat tank for supply and run and can run 3+ days 24/7 on it. The electric heat on the floor and the cabover vent cracked works great as it removes the moisture and creates a natural draft that pulls the heat from the floor of the camper up to the cabover sleeping area so the entire camper stays evenly heated. I rarely use the furnace but if it gets too cold(in the teens to single digits) the furnace is set at a setting where it will kick in to help out as needed. My camper also has the winter package with dual plane glass which I'm sure helps greatly. Most electric heaters are virtually noiseless also so your not awakened by the loud blower of the furnace kicking on.

RE: What Jack Do You Carry?

I never used a jack when I had to change or service tires on my 5er. Just stack some of your leveling boards in front of or behind the other tire and pull up or back up on it and it will lift the other tire off the ground. Much easier, quicker and safer than a jack. Put some short nails or screws all the way through these boards so that they stick through the bottom about a 1/4" to keep them from sliding on the ground or off each other when you pull on them. Works great.

I have had the set that camping world used to sale for a few years now. They are high quality and work great in the TC. Highly recommended.

RE: Awning MAT?

I've had several types and now I have the plastic fold up mat from wal-mart and it beats anything elses hands down. Light, folds up in an instant, It is light even when wet and can hose off and dry quickly. Will never use the astro turf mess again.

RE: chevy 2500HD Tires

I'm on my 3rd set and 3rd brand of 285s on the stock aluminum wheels. 10s of thousands of miles of very heavy loads. Zero issues with tire wear or wheels. It is quite easy to show tire failure issues or pictures of tire failures but I have yet to see or hear of even ONE of these wheels fail. Someone please show me just one these wheels failed from overloading.

RE: tire upgrade

All I'm going to say on this is that I have burned many a gallon of diesel and traveled many a miles with a heavy load on several different brand tires, all 285s, on stock 6.5 wheels and have had zero problems and love the ride and look. FAR better that the stock 245s in every way.
The speedo can easily be reprogrammed by the dealer or most power programmers. I use the hypertech.

RE: Henderson Beach SP, Destin, FL First come sites

Yes they have 6 walk up spots according to Reserve America. I was able to reserve the nights I needed at Rocky Bayou. I have not stayed there yet, just drove through it once. Looking forward to it.

RE: Deciding on the best 5th wheel hitch?

I have the 18K Reese and really like it. I can't see how any hitch would interfere with air bags. If I was buying again I would get the same hitch. I think its the best manual slider there is. If money where no object and I wanted the absolute best automatic slider I would go with the Pullrite.

Henderson Beach SP, Destin, FL First come sites

I have stayed here before with reservations and am very familiar with the area and park. I will be in the area the last few days of June and of course all reserved sites are taken. My question is how do the first come first served sites work? Is there a daily wait list or do they go to whoever is there waiting at the actual time someone leaves and opens on of these sites up? Staying here would be my first choice and Rocky Bayou my second. What are my odds? Thanks.
