RE: IDEAL missing from Syracuse RV Show

I spent some time at the 40th Annual RV Show at the NY State Fairgrounds. Only Roadtrek and Winnebago were there (B's) but I enjoyed speaking with the rep from Winnebago and the owner of our local Roadtrek dealer. I was disappointed that there was not an IDEAL to inspect. The Winnebago ERA was a bit cheaper ($74,000 + show price) but the Roadtrek looked very well built. They had the AGILE and the ADVENTUROUS on display.
The RT dealer here in Virginia had 7 Roadies on display at the Richmond show in February.
2 190P's, one with enclosed shower, & one without. 2 210's-a Popular and a Versatile. 3 Sprinter based units. The Adventerous, the SS-Agile, and the SS-Ideal.

RE: Roadtrek armoire cabinet

Does anyone know where an RT armoire (to replace 3rd seat)can be purchased? Also, how complicated is the install? (Do you have to take the box that's under the seat out? How do you install the cabinet? Is it possible to keep switching them out?)
Thanks!
Mimi
What model year do you have? It's only in the past few years that RT made the passenger side armoire removable. Earlier, the armiore was an available option, but it was permanent. You couldn't take it out and put the chair back in.
Now, you can. If you have a later design, you remove and replace as much as you want.

RE: Are Older B's Hot?

....yours is paid for and has all the ammenities of later models. See ya on the road fellow Trekker.
"Paid for" that kinda says it all. My eye keeps wandering, looking at "newer" used units. But in every case, I'd have to come up with more cash, or sign a note.
That thought usually brings me back to earth quickly.
If mine had the optional "foottub" that was available in the 1994 thru 1996 Roadtrek models, I'd consider it almost perfect.
I'm still looking for a deal that I can't refuse. :B

RE: Curious about Roadtrek interior storage

I have the older 1996 RT210Popular. It has draw backs, such as the older 5.7L (350ci) engine and narrow place for the front passengers feet.
However, it probably peaked out the amount of storage space. Mine has 113cuft of storage including the outside storage.
We leave the king bed made up all the time. We put an air mattress on top of the cushions. I keep my underware, socks, tshirts, jeans, etc in the upper roadside rear cabinet, along with wind suits/rain suits. DW does the same on the other side.
The bottom roadside cabinet us use to store boots, and extra pairs of shooes. The cabinet opposite is used for extra blankets, etc.
The hanging cubbard on the curbside is used for non perisable food. The entertainment cabinet opposite on the roadside is used for odds and ends such as stuffed animals and other VT stuff.
We hang coats and and occasional "dress up" clothes in the removable wardrobe that replaces the lounge seat on the roadside right behind the drivers seat.
The drawer under the wardrobe acts as my liquor cabinet during tailgating season.
The cabinet under the lounge seat on the curbside is used to store my canvas bag that has tools, etc.
The exterior roadside storage cubby has my propane grill when I bring it, a crate with extra items that might be needed while on the road, the 30amp cord for shore power plus and extention cord that mates to the 30amp power cord, plus a potable water hose.
In the across the rear storage at the back, we carry 4 fold up "bag" chairs, a container with grilling tools, a small fold up table that stores in a bag also.
And before anyone get worried that I'm over weight, don't. I've weighted her in "tailgate" trim before and am confortably under the max weight.

Proper size of fuse for battery cable?

I almost ready to order the pieces/parts needed to replace my Group 24 battery with a pair of GC 6v batteries. I need to order a fuse/fusible link. What size fuse should I order?
The run is about 10 feet. I'm using 2 gauge wire. The RV electric system is 30amp service.

RE: What do you think of this professional battery installation?

They said there are no fuses in the system. There should be a fuse between the 2000 watt inverter and the 200 amp hour battery, and a fuse between the battery and the 12 volt plug.
.
Did the RV repair facility say what size fuse they will be installing?

RE: Florida Out of State Delivery

Good morning,
As a Canadian resident we opted for not paying the Florida sales tax by taking an out of state delivery, Georgia.
Two questions:
Do we need to keep the vehicule for a certain period of time out of Florida or we can come back to spend few weeks , the temporary tag is good for one month?
The dealer referred us to a guy and the charges are 535$ to drive the PW Plateau to Georgia ( 200 miles) and then we can take delivery. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Alain
May I ask what state are the temporary tags in? Georgia? or the state the dealer is located?
How long do you intend to run temp out of state tags?
Aren't you going to put permanent tags on the van within 1 month? If so, what state or province?
At some point withing a month, some state/province is going to want the sales tax and registration fees for you new van.

RE: What do you think of this professional battery installation?

The battery needs to breathe?
I assume he means the battery needs space to give off gas? If that's the case, you sure don't want the fumes inside the van.
If it needs to "breathe", seem like it would have been better to have a solid box with a vent tube to the outside. Just drill a hole thru the floor and stick the vent tube through it.
Let me add, if that's the result of a "professional" install, I want to make sure I don't visit that "professional".

RE: 1994 RoadTrek - TV Antenna??

My new-to-me Roadtrek has two interior tv connectors - one is obviously wired to the cable inlet connector in the utility locker and works great. The other must be connected to some kind of antenna - maybe located in the roof? We,ve not ever been able to pick up very good reception using the antenna connection. (Our TV is HD). Can anyone tell me what my Roadtrek may have for an antenna and is there something else that may work better with the new hd format broadcasts? Thanks in advance for your help.
As Handbasket noted, the 1994 had what RoadTrek called a Hide-atenna buried in the fiberglass top. It was a long ribbon that ran down both sides of the fiberglass top.
Don't expect miracles from that junk.
And as Handbasket said, you'll need a HDTV converter box now.

RE: Richmond (VA) RV show

i thought the show was o.k. alot of people there today, i was hoping for more vendors to buy goodies, since i already own a tt, at this point spring would be the best show!!!!
IIRC, the number of vendors is about the same as in other more normal years.
Bill of Rule RV who brought the RT's to the Richmond Show, also shows RT's at the Washington, DC area show. It was held earlier this year, and he said that where in the past 2 buildings were used to house all the RV units, this year they only had 1 building with RV's in them.

RE: Richmond (VA) RV show

The price of this new Ideal at the show is 86K plus change.
Yeah, it's always the "change" that's the problem. 86Ks, no problemo, but the "change" - don't know about that.
Now, if I only knew what a "K" was...:@
Cheers.
Update. The Adventurous = $88,920. The SS-Ideal = $86,580. The SS-Agile = $77,620. The 210P (w/ 6.0L) was $83,220. The 190 Popular (w/ 4.8L) w/ enclosed bathroom = $73,820, and the 190 Popular (w/ 4.8L) w/ aisle shower = $73,440.
The dealer did tell me that 2010 RT's build on 2009 chassis were going to cost $5,000 +/- more. The 2009 chassis were going to increase that much. The models he had at the show were 2010 RT's built on 2008 chassis.

Richmond (VA) RV show

The annual RV show in Richmond is going on this weekend.
One thing I noticed was not as many RV's and RV dealers. At least it didn't seem so to me.
There is a huge local dealer that always takes one building by itself. In past years, besides the ones inside, this deal always had lots and lots of TT's/5th wheels/Class A's outside. This year, nothing.
The Roadtrek deal from Staunton, VA was there as usual, occupying his usual space, just inside the entrance on the right hand side.
He had a couple of 190P's, one of which had the enclose bath, a 210V and a 210P.
The Sprinter based units included an Adventerous plus two SS's, the Agile and the Ideal.
My first look at the Ideal was a good one. I kinda like it, although I believe some folks have panned it or the idea of the slide-out.
The biggest drawback I saw with the Ideal was the bed is only what I would call a double. It can't be as wide as a normal bed in one since it must be narrow enough to slide through the back doors.
I like the idea of a short wheel base for driving but a long bed and open space once you're parked.
The dealer had just gotten it in just before the show started so he didn't know all the ends and outs. There is a RT factory rep, and engineer type I think, there but I didn't get a chance to talk to him.
I had one question the dealer couldn't answer. What kind of manual system exists to close the slide, should the electricals break down?
We may go back over for a while this morning to see it again. Of course, unless I win the lottery this morning, or Buffett or Gates strokes a huge check to me, I'll just be looking and asking questions, and not buying.
The price of this new Ideal at the show is 86K plus change.

RE: Roadtrek 190 Independent

Hi Mar. I found the advertisement, but it is in Ft. Lauderdale. Don't know how I came up with Memphis. It is on RVTrader and is a 1994 RT Independent with the mini-tub. No milage listed. Number is 954-565-8604. lizzie
It has in excess of 200,000 miles. The seller is the original owner. I saw that ad and contacted the seller.

RE: Winter Camping in a B (not by choice)

... We didn't want to start the gene too, because I don't think the propane would have lasted all night with that running as well.
That is one of the big advantages a gas B has over the Sprinter B's. You could run the genny all night with not worries about running out of gasoline or propane.

RE: 2 -6v bhtteries

Hi, and thanks in advance. Question? Would it be OK to put two 6v batteries(flood type) in the outside compartment which is located next to the driver's side step compartment (the batteries will be in a plastic box that fits in this area - I already measured the space. O! it is a 1997 Roadtrek Popular. I am concerned about fumes going into the inside of the unit and or a fire starting from accumulation of these fumes in this compartment. This compartment has a label in it that says "maximum of 150 pounds". It is a wide compartment and has standard fixed (Roadtrek) items on the right side of it - leaving the lefts 2'plus area open. There is a light with switch on the left side of the of this compartment. The batteries weight 63 pounds each/plastic battery boxes, wire and connectors should weight less than 10 pounds = about 123 pounds total. What do you think?
Any information about the need to upgrade my converter or charge and the adding of a solar charging unit would also be appreciated.
Thanks again,
Ed
This is what I had planned to do last spring. Didn't get it done, but I hope to this spring.
Fortunately, I have a major advantage over your '97 RT 190 Pop. I have the '96 RT 210 Pop. It's about 1.5 feet longer than the 190 and has an extra outside storage compartment between the rear right wheel and the side cargo doors.
It also is limited to 150# so I can use it but not lose any storage in the large road side compartment.
I plan on having a local welding shop put a brace under that storage compartment. I also plan on drilling a few holes for ventilation.
Another plus is all the devices that have a spark are located on the street side of the van, and the batteries will be on the curb side.

RE: please help with roadtrek battery

thank you all for the responses. My Rt panel only shows the water heather, the water pump and the status of the tanks. any other ideas please?
On my 1996 210P, the water heater switch is over the sink in the galley.
The monitor panel has gauges for the water level in the fresh, gray, and black tanks, the charge level for the battery. It also has at the bottom on/off switch for the battery.
Above the monitor panel is the starter switch for the genny plus the hour meter.
All of this is on the bulkhead between the right rear lounge seat and the potty.

RE: please help with roadtrek battery

I know that my 1996 RT has a battery cut off switch on the panel that shows tank levels, etc. If the RT is not plugged into shore power, you can switch the battery on or off. Once, I plug into shore power, the battery switch automatically comes on.
I can't remember for sure now, but I think my '94 RT had the same.

RE: What Forums do Class B owners read?

Class B forum almost exclusively. It's not that I have any problem with the other RV types, it's just that I have a B and the B forum has the most pertinent information for my type of RV.
I will go to the Technology forum if I'm interested in reading about a problem that might apply to a B class.

All the time.
I still have several years before I can retire. I'm still counting the days. I'm just hoping my health and finances will allow me to do what I really want to do.
Tour the US. There are so many places I want to see in this great country. Plus I want to drive Route 66.

Sale price of a left over new RV.

Any one have any idea what a good price would be for a new, never been titled Gulfstream Vista Crusier G24. The model year is 2006.
Obviously, it's been sitting on the dealer's lot a long time. I know there are things to look out for, such as the generator sitting idle so long. Also, the oil should probably be changed since it's been sitting just as long. The oil doesn't have any engine run time on it, but sitting probablly hasn't done it any good. Tires also come into the picture.
A positive are the warranties. Gulfstream's warranty doesn't amount to much, but the van has a basic warranty of 3 years or 36K miles. The drivetrain is warranteed for 7 years or 70K miles. The diesel engine components carry a warranty of 7 years or 100k miles.
