RE: RV's turning into first home.

I don't know where people are staying where they see all these older RV's with homeless people living in them. We stay in RV parks/resorts that do not allow this type of guest.
Have never been looked down on because we live in our RV. Our RV is quite nice with all the amenities of a home.
I would never look down on someone who has had the bad luck of losing their house and are forced to live in their RV. Most people this has happened, was not their fault. The economy is bad out there.
Where has the compassion gone for people when they are down and out.
It could happen to anyone.
Losing jobs, illness in the family, divorce, storms or natural disasters..

RE: I didn't give up!!

Congratulations on selling your house. And your new life on the road.
Took us 2 years to sell our house. We took less than we wanted but still did OK. Been full timing now for almost 2 years. Love this life style!
Maybe we will see you on the road. :)

RE: RV's turning into first home.

I would not call this poor man's housing. Our 5th wheel cost more than some houses and the truck was not cheap.
We are full timers by choice. Did NOT lose our home. We sold it! Took 2 years but sold it.
I feel insulted by some of the posters description of full timers.:R
This is not a cheap way to live! We like to travel in the summer and like being someplace warm in the winter.
We are snow birds by choice. Retired and living the
lifestyle we love. :)

RE: Sardines

Only one time, this close and only for one night while traveling from point A to point B.
Stopped in Las Cruses NM. We were so close we had to ask the next door neighbor to move their bicycles and picnic table so we could get our slides out. Also our back end was hanging over into the Camp road. Were worried we would be hit by a vehicle going through. Will never stay there again! Was the only place we could find at that time of day. Had to sleep with our tail lights on all night to keep people from hitting us. A Walmart parking lot would have been better.

RE: Arizona State park closures

Texas has all their parks open and don't plan on closing any.
They are smart enough to realize parks bring in money for state and the community. Also Texas is not in a budget crunch.

RE: 3/4 ton truck and mobile suites?

Truck is too light for that 5th wheel. With time it will damage your suspension, tranny and etc.
Air bags will not transform your truck into a bigger truck. It may stop some of the squat but truck is still not heavy enough for that trailer.
You still have to stop that trailer. Trailer brakes work fine but you will have a lot of weight pushing you down the road.
Believe me it won't be a pleasant experience towing something too heavy for your truck...Been there done that! Got the tee-shirt!
We had a 3/4 ton diesel we used to tow a Montana and you should have seen us towing up the Flagstaff AZ hill! Was not fun. We were wishing for a one ton! Got down to about 20 mile an hour and nothing we could do. Not fun stopping it either. If your truck is not heavy enough it is not safe.

Warning pet product recall, dangerous

This is for dog treats and bones.
Feds Probe Reports of Dog Deaths, Illnesses From Pork Bone Treats
http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2010/03/dynamic_pet_products.html
Dog treats displayed on company’s Web site
A Missouri pet products company is under investigation by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) amid reports that scores of dogs have became seriously ill or died after eating the manufacturer’s treats. The company at the heart of the probe is Dynamic Pet Products of Washington, Mo., an FDA spokesman told ConsumerAffairs.com today.
“FDA is aware of the issue and is looking into it,” according to a statement the spokesman sent us. “We take very seriously any potential harm to pets from products regulated under the Federal Food Drug and Cosmetic Act and encourage consumers to report their concerns to the FDA. If warranted we will take appropriate action and notify the public.”
ConsumerAffairs.com has received several complaints about one of the company’s treats — Real Ham Bones. Pet owners say the 8” hickory smoked pork femur bones — sold as treats — have splintered and caused their dogs to become violently ill or even die.
“My dog ate the bone and died,” said pet owner Christina N. of Collierville, Tennessee. “The company denied my claim for vet bills. They said I chose to give my dog the bone. This was a very, very painful death for Buddy. Many dogs have died from this product. I had a necropsy done and still they claim it wasn’t their product.”
A Texas pet owner also blamed the death of her dog on the company’s chew bones: “I purchased the pet treat for my dog and it killed him,” said Kriss L. of Richardson, Texas. “Words cannot express my grief.”
Not a dime
An Indiana pet owner told us her dog had to undergo surgery after chewing one of Dynamic’s Real Ham Bones. The dog’s health problems, she said, surfaced ten minutes after it started chomping on the treat.
“I noticed it had broken apart, so I took it away from her (and) a short time later she was gravely ill, trying to vomit but couldn’t,” said Patti S. “She couldn’t even drink water.”
Patti rushed her dog to the vet. “They took X-rays and said she had splinters of the bone in her intestines and she had to go through surgery. Thank God I have a great vet because she is the reason my dog is still alive.”
Patti called Dynamic Pet Products about her dog’s experience. The company referred her case to its insurance carrier, which denied Patti’s claim.
“They would not pay a dime,” she said. “They (said) they were not at fault. They said I was for not monitoring my dog closely enough.”
A New Jersey pet owner also told us her dogs became sick after eating one of Dynamic’s chew bones: “On March 2, I bought two Real Ham Bones for my two Bulldogs,” said Nadine of Woodstown, New Jersey. “That night, one Bulldog threw up 5 times.”
Nadine’s vet ordered X-rays on the dog, but they did not reveal any blockage. The vet, however, blamed the chew bone for the dog’s gastric problems, she said.
“This is day three (and) she has not moved her bowels yet and (we) will have to have another trip to the vet.”
What about Nadine’s other Bulldog? “She is moving her bowels, but they are full of bone,” she said.
Similar problems
Another pet owner told us her dog experienced similar problems after gnawing on one Dynamic’s chew bones.
“I bought a Real Ham Bone made by Dynamic and a few hours later my dog was throwing up and yelping when he had a bowel movement,” said Maureen G. of Gladstone, Missouri. “I decided to Google the product and found out this has happened to a lot of pets.
“This product needs to be taken off the shelf,” she added. “How many dogs have to die first? Luckily, my dog will be okay. I bought it for him thinking that it would be safe and unfortunately the product isn’t.”
ConsumerAffairs.com contacted Dynamic Pet Products today about the FDA’s investigation and the complaints we’ve received about its chew bones. The company did not return our call.
Dynamic’s Web site states the Real Ham Bones are not recommended for aggressive chewers. “As with all natural bones, we recommend supervision during eating,” the Web site points out. The company’s Web site also states that it’s “proud” of its track record and reputation.
Dynamic has not pulled any of its chew bones or treats off the market and pet owners are likely to still find them on store shelves.
The FDA said pet owners can report any health problems their dogs experience with Dynamic Pet Products’ chew bones or treats to the agency’s Consumer Complaint Coordinator in their region.

RE: 5th Wheel Hitch

Started out with an RBW 15 K non slider hitch. Had a short bed with 3 different 5th wheel trailers. Never had a problem but you do have to watch closely when backing and turning.
We now have another RBW 22 K non slider hitch for a heavier 5th wheel. Have a long bed truck now and love the long bed on this truck.
Like the RBW hitch because not likely can come unhitched if the handle is in the position. Easy to check to see if it is engaged, after stopping someplace.
Easy to hook up and to unhook. RBW has good customer service too. Had a problem when bought new, one hole was not finished out. They fixed it ASAP.

RE: political Ads

You also have the right to tell Google what type of ads are unacceptable on your sight, at least my Google contract gives me that right. Sensorship that is not unilateral is also known as prapaganda that is more commonly associated with dictatorial environments
Ditto! I agree!
Why didn't someone at RV net tell Google what type of ads were unacceptable?
Why don't they tell them today?

RE: RV's turning into first home.

Know of people who have lost both jobs and have been actively looking for over 2 years. Their savings are gone and are about to lose their house. Yes they do have a camper so they don't have to live in a cardboard box or in a shelter if they lose their house.
They bought their camper when they were doing well, working, saving money and able to take vacations. Then the bottom fell out of everything.
They are not the only people in this situation.
We sold our house and had already bought our 5th wheel that we planned to use for full timing. This is what we wanted to do. Have seen people in parks that didn't have this choice.

RE: New Fifth wheel and Silverado 1500HD???

I am speaking from experience. Our first truck was a 2500 diesel HD. We were towing a Wildcat and then a Montana with this truck. After a few mountains we wish we had a one ton. You should have seen us towing up the Flagstaff hill on hwy 17 in AZ! Was not fun.
This truck did not have the exhaust brake either. All the Dodge diesels now come with that. This truck was a 2004.
Yes trailers do have brakes but there is a lot of weight pushing when you don't have a heavy enough truck.
Not enough truck can be dangerous. Can cause a jackknife, trailer pushing truck.
Also can damage tranny and motor. Pin weight can damage the suspension.
Traded this truck in on a 2 ton diesel dually, when we bought the Carriage. It is a great experience when you have the right truck towing your 5th wheel. More stability when towing is also something to consider.

RE: Why Some Areas Have Banned Boondocking

Why can't people just mind their own business. If people want to park at Walmart, it is none of anyone's business and whatever they want to do while there is none of anyone's business.
This shouldn't have any personal effect on anyone or their lifestyle.
Whoever owns the parking lot has the say. No one else.
Can't we all just get along?:R

RE: my 2009 carriage and condensation

We have a carri lite and have never ever had those kind of problems. We full time in our carri lite. Is a 2008.
We ordered it with single pane windows and did have slight condensation on bottom of windows during a blizzard in Colorado, but have since had dual pane windows installed. But never any condensation on walls.
We now have dual pane windows and have not had condensation on windows. Never on the walls. Or in the safe.
You should take it back to the factory or dealer and see what is causing this.
