RE: dumping gray water in forest

I'll be darned- you don't mean to say that folks are coming around to the benefits of using greywater for plants etc., just like we tent-and-boonie-campers have been doing for years?
Wonders will never cease! :)
Not at all… they are coming around to establishing rules for treatment of gray water so it can be reused…
Of course maybe you would like to conform and carry a tub of sand or some other media to filter your gray water through before distributing it on the plants or ground…
Then of course you have to contend with the carrying and disposal of the contaminated sand instead…
My greywater goes into a hole dug in the firepit when I'm primitive, "dry", or tent camping in the boonies- never on the surface of the ground.
There is no better filtration media than ashes, and the high Ph provides the added enhancement of neutralization of odors and even the beginnings of rudimentary "treatment". Any bits/pieces of food/grease readily mix with the ashes-one would never know they're there. There are NO bugs/vermin attracted by this method.
And let us not forget the sanitizing effect of the fire ultimately built in the pit. What could be more sanitary/environmentally responsible than this arrangement?

RE: dumping gray water in forest

Ya gotta post it all, Friend Mowermech...those are regulations governing commercial Montana RV park operations or, as titled in its State regs:
Chapter 37.111, Public Accommodations, sub chapter 216:Trailer Courts and Tourist Campgrounds
No jurisdiction in/on federal lands where a lot of us drycamp...and do note the following exclusion language per "primitive campgrounds".
37.111.216 SEWAGE SYSTEM
(1) (a) Except for primitive campgrounds, an adequate and safe sewage system must be provided in each campground or trailer court for conveying, treating and disposing of all sewage.

RE: dumping gray water in forest

OK, how many of you have athlete's foot?? Raise your hand. I don't see any hands so I'm assuming what my doctor said is true: Peeing on your feet in the shower CURES athlete's foot. So I don't want you dumping your grey water where it can get into any water system without treatment.
:h
Thanks for sharing your...personal cure for athlete's foot, but:
Pee isn't "blackwater", if that's your point, nor is it a disease-carrying mechanism. All the bad guys come from the bowels!

RE: Moldy interior of TT - disgusting!

I live in the same climate you do, O.P., but I'm lucky enough to have the old time jalousie windows that shed rain on all four sides of my trailer. I leave each one "cracked" a bit all winter long, and never have mold problems. It's been my hard-won experience that roof venting isn't enough- one needs crosscurrents.
If your rig is parked undercover you could do the same thing with sliders, that is of course assuming you're not worried about security. But even then, the ol' stick-in-the-track would work to prevent anyone from opening the window farther than the inch or so you've left for ventilation.

RE: Dual Receiver with 6" Drop??

This hitch actually has a higher weight rating. Take a look.
http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u604/Medico51/21KYXvIKhhL_zps20e7ff12.jpg
It's made by Roadmaster. Is available through Camping World.
I was impressed for a minute when I saw the "10,000 pound capacity"...but then I saw that the tongue weight limit is only 400 pounds!
What the heck is up with THAT????

RE: dumping gray water in forest

According to the EPA dumping even grey water is a federal offence!
No, it's not.
But I'd love to see whatever language (at any EPA site) that you think says it is...got a link?

RE: Question (again) from the road

It works if you have what's called an "automatic changeover regulator", which should have an indicator needle that shows you which tank you're on.
Here's one type- the red flag indicates an empty tank, and which one. Your setup could be different, but they all work more or less the same.

RE: Lock your gas tank

"The gummint" wasn't behind long lines or odd-even days, folks- the gas companies were. Weren't no troops keeping order, or coupons, or ordinances/laws.
Or even fireside chats!
Just Big Oil, trying to keep the population quiet and fed while planning their next moves that led from 33 cent a gallon gas in 1970 to almost five bucks today.
God bless America!

RE: HELP! Problem w/ 97 Roadtrek propane connection

Weird that the P.O. didn't have the same problem...Have the nozzles changed that much recently?
If I were you, I'd go to an RV or propane shop (not just a gas seller) and ask them to fix you up with whatever adapter you might need to get around that obstruction..
Unfortunately the PO never filled the tank, as he never went camping. He bought it with a 1/2 tank, replaced all the appliances, used it as a daily driver for a few mths, and then sold it with the same amt of propane as when he bought it. I already used the 1/2 that was in there not knowing I would have this problem.I am located in Nassau County, Long Island NY.. not too many Rv places around here. I will have to do some research on finding an adapter, or notching out the compartment.. i'm still open to suggestions if anyone else has had this problem with their RT
Lain
Gotcha...
While Nassau may not have RV places, I guarantee you it's got gas appliance supplier/installers!
Any one of them could solve this problem for you...
Good luck!

RE: Lock your gas tank

Back during the gas crisis of the '70s, ....snip.... Gas was a lot cheaper back then but rationed.
"Rationed"????
Unless I'm mistaken, gas hasn't been rationed in this Country since WWII!
I do remember sitting in line for gas in the '70's- but never had to pass over a coupon or anything...

RE: Might have found that 100% American made truck

That's not a truck, it's an advertisement for ED.
That would explain why part of it looks so..."disproportionately small"...

RE: Traveling Oregon NE to Couer d'Alene

I didn't encounter anything I had to struggle up. Nothing like some of the passes in the Cascades etc.
Can't recommend any computer software etc., but I absolutely swear by the Benchmark series of Atlases if you're a paper map user. Only available for the West, but unbelievably detailed! link
Costco usually has them if you're a member/interested...or of course since they're published in Medford, you could probably pick 'em up if you happen to go that way.

RE: PIctures and details on TT construction please!

No manufacturer "skins the outside" with plywood. Some use aluminum, some use a sort of composite/luan sandwich, and some use straight composite. This of course assumes the rig has an interior frame.
Molded fiberglass RV's, on the other hand, have solid fiberglass walls just like a molded boat, and no real body "frame".

RE: Might have found that 100% American made truck

Well...American ASSEMBLED, anyway!
Not sure where all the components for this (Swedish) vehicle come from, but according to its website:
The Volvo VNM, VNL, VNX, VHD and VAH trucks are assembled in the United States at the New River Valley Plant in Dublin, Virginia, while Volvo engines for North America are assembled in Hagerstown, Maryland.
I guess that's about as close as we get to "American made" anymore...

RE: Travel Trailer

Many of the wheeled add-on units are limited by their manufacturers to motorhome or fifth wheel trailers only- can't think of any that are sold for adding to bumper-pull trailers.
I agree - but then I looked at the Idaho Tote above. It does not attach to the bumper, it welds to the frame. According to their web site, they can be used on TT.
The only language on the subject I see at their website refers to "motorcoach, fifth wheel, or camper"...I read "camper as truckcamper rather than bumper pull trailer.
I guess the O.P. could call and ask them- if he/she ever comes back! We seem more interested that that mysterious person is...:@

RE: Traveling Oregon NE to Couer d'Alene

I'm not familiar with the Idaho stretch, but both 26 and 19 in Oregon are good roads, mostly two lane. You shouldn't have any trouble with your fiver.
Do try to make time to stop at the Painted Hills, a few miles off 26 near the town of Mitchell. Though a native Oregonian, I saw them myself last year for the first time, and it's an unbelievably beautiful sight!

RE: Claiming a first come campsite

Leaving tomorrow morning for a site that hopefully will be available and won't have the usual drop in's after we set up!! Maybe the snow predicted will slow down or discourage some of them!! If taken, there many other sites to choose from, which is why I wonder why they feel they can squat next to you!!
Is the road to the lake open, "Tucquala"? ;)
Fortune Creek's my favorite d.c. spot along there...

RE: Fiberglass dented

O.K...
Got a look at the pics at Photobucket.
Could be just the angle of the pictures, but that looks like delamination to me, especially given the location and the lack of evidence of anything having struck the trailer. When the fiberglass skin comes unglued from the substrate, it "bubbles" like that.
Delamination is usually caused by water intrusion though there was a rash of plain glue failure in some makes awhile back.
