Spend some time on this web site to help narrow down your search for a Dentist in Los Algodones. Took me half a day, but I have it narrowed down to suit my needs.

RE: 3/4 ton truck and mobile suites?

I have pulled (no problem) and tried to stop (problem) my rig with a 3500 Dodge....found the experience less than pleasant...bordering on dangerous. Now I have plenty of brakes and a 3 stage Jake to boot....
Your salesman is getting paid to sell you something, not council you on getting set up correctly....listen to the advice you have received here....unlike your salesman, we have nothing to gain or lose.

RE: Manufactures that install quality tires, offer upgrades.

"If enough customers refused to drive off with "China bombs" on these expensive rigs the dealers would be speaking up".
IMO....That's the way to get their attention. Strike your best deal with the dealer on a new rig, then just when he thinks you're ready to sign the papers....you say "not with those tires....I'll buy it for the agreed price, if you replace the factory tires with XYZ brand". I'll wager he won't let you walk away because of a set of tires.

RE: Carlsbad, NM to Williams AZ

You'll find no problems with the AZ portion of your route....however, Mountain Directory West says this about US 380: "The road is very poor between Carrizozo and Bingham...very narrow and rough, grades 5-6%".
You'll hit 8100' between Datil and Pietown , looks like the highest point on your route.

RE: Yuma area question, info please...

GG is right, most of the large parks (Fortuna De Oro comes to mind) in the Foothills have easy access to washes, which seems to be the primary routes into the hills and open BLM land. The best way to go in the Foothills tho' is to rent a private lot (no pool). The lots are huge (by RV standards), usually shared by one other RV, and rent for around $300+ per month. The better/best neighborhoods are in the far east section of the Foothills, where access to 4 wheel country is easy.

RE: So. Cal Interstates

IMO, I-8 is a much better road, if road condition is the criteria. I-8 is also far less traveled than I-10. My truck rides very smooth on I-8, whereas on I-10 between Indio and Ontario it bucks so bad the gearshift jumps back and forth due to the concrete sections/joints in the road. The passes on I-8 are just over 4K feet, some posted 6% grades, but not bad.

RE: Computer Chip on a Used Truck - Anything to Worry About?

On the other hand, the previous owner might have taken care of the truck....just as in any situation, it's "buyer beware". There are probably as many drivers that do not hot rod their truck, as those that do. I've had a chip on my '05 Dodge for 80K miles with no ill effects. I've had no service technician come to me to say that as a result, my warranty is void. Before a dealer can void a warranty for the use of after market parts, he must be able to prove the after market part was the root cause of any failure.

RE: luxury fifth wheel

Wow, Teddycp....a tad negative in your response doncha think ?
"They all use the same stuff". "someones ego trip"..."complain about how much it depreciated", "impress your friends"....
I doubt that your Telstar and my Elite Suites are constructed the same, but I'm sure you are happy with your choice, as I am with mine.
To the OP: Teddycp did offer some good advice tho'..."check the market".
To that I would add: Identify what you want to do, where you want to go in your RV, will you spend winter in the RV ? Cold climates ? Fulltime on the horizon ? Want to visit State and National Parks (they are usually not designed to accommodate large RV's)?
Spend a good deal of time shopping RV lots and RV shows. If you are still shopping during the summer, go to some RV parks or campgrounds...see something you like....stop and talk to the owner, most are happy to discuss why they think their rig is superior. You might take some pictures of what of what you like/what you don't like in what you see. Make some notes on how you think your "ideal" RV would look/function. Make a list of what your "ideal" rig "must have", and "should have". Then approach the manufacturer (through a dealer) to see if they are open to the idea of incorporating your ideas.
Several top rated 5th wheel RV manufacturers will modify their basic plans to suit the purchaser. A couple that come to mind are DRV, and New Horizons.
Good Luck and have fun.

RE: how much cargo?

That's a difficult question to answer with anything that will be of help to you.
Get yourself a good bathroom scale, and start weighing everything you want to load into the 5th wheel....pots/pans, dishes/silverware/glassware, food items, cosmetic items, small appliances, laundry items (washer/dryer ?) clothing/shoes, tools, fixit items and recreation items, PC and printer (and paper), books, music (replace CD's with an IPod), and figure out what you can safely load in your tow vehicle. Only then will you know how the CC limitations on various RV's will affect you.

I'd go 101 to Salinas, 183 to Castroville (stop and get some fried artichoke hearts at the Giant Artichoke), then 1 to Pescadero.

RE: I-5 to Hwy 101 Mt shasta area

If you are not making the trip until mid May, you have plenty of time to order the book: Mountain Directory West (for Truckers, RV and Motorhome Drivers).
This includes locations and descriptions of over 400 mountain passes and steep grades in the 11 western states. You can read the cautions for all routes to the coast, and pick the one you are comfortable with. I would not head out without reading this guide.

RE: Quartzsite storm

"And people complain about the wind in Texas?"
As shown by this map, Texas does get more wind than does Arizona. We only complain about the occasional wind in AZ...we hear RV'ers in South Texas complain about the endless wind....;)

RE: Camera in the back to RV to watch the bicycles

I understand you have a new receiver on the back of the 5th wheel designed for the platform on which you want to carry your bikes....have you considered a receiver on the front of the 5th wheel ? I've seen a few custom welded on the top side of the pin box...gotta stand in the bed of the truck to get the bikes
up or down, but you can watch 'em all day long in the trucks rear view mirror...

RE: installing washer/dryer

First, determine the space you have to work with...the exact size, check doorways too. Also...will you have room to reach the water valves once the machines are in place ? (I had ours moved to the basement for easy access) Next do a google search for "compact washers" and "compact dryers". Will any of them fit your space ? As mentioned, front load washers use less water, and spins at a faster rate (getting more water out means less dry time). Our Whirlpool units were not sold as a matched set, however they are the same general size and are stacked, being held in place by ratchet straps which are welded to the frame beneath the floor. I let the dealer install the appliances that I purchased elsewhere, and had shipped to him....I let them cut the vent hole, move the plumbing, manhandle the machines, and weld the strap ratchets to the frame.
Personally, I find the combination washer/dryers designed for RV use to be overpriced, and not engineered for anything more than casual use....we much prefer standard machines....
Good Luck
