RE: Satellite dishes

Bumpy is right. I bought one because we could activate it for a few days at a time. Now they require that you prepay for a month at a time and they charge your credit card automatically every month unless you call and cancel it. Just another way for Dish to trick people into becoming monthly customers IMHO. I put ours back in the box and bought digital converter boxes for the TVs. I am finding that we get more than enough over the air stations even out in the boonies. I think the fewest stations we got was 12 in a remote area.
We also keep a large selection of DVDs in the RV.
Haven't missed satellite at all.

RE: What did you do to your Class A MH today???

This wasn't today, it was a few days ago. I moved the couch and added a breakfast bar.

RE: RVS FROWNED UPON IF OLD AT SOME PARKS.

I am proud of my old Dawghouse. Anyone who doesn't like it should be spending their time worrying about themselves. Our previous rig was an 82 Pace Arrow. We loved it and had a lot of fun in it. So far, we haven't run into any snobs. Either that, or I am just too deaf to hear their comments. Sometimes old age has it's benefits. :)

Amen! My family and I are about to move back to a dirt road. In the same area as the dirt road where I was born.

RE: Bad drivers both WITH and WITHOUT an RV

It's not a problem for me, as I ALWAYS assume all drivers out there are on the verge of doing something stupid. I try not to let my guard down, be ready for whatever genes they might be wearing....:B
30 years ago my Dad taught me to drive. The first words out of his mouth were, "Always believe that everyone else on the road is trying to hit you." It may seem a little paranoid to some but by using his advise I am always aware of where the other drivers are and what their actions are. I have had enough forewarning because of this to avoid some really bad accidents. So far, I have a spotless record.

RE: Cool Mods

I decided we needed a breakfast bar, so I moved the couch and put one in. This is a rough fitting in the picture. I stil have some finish work to do to it but I think it will work out pretty good. I even had room left when I was done for my recliner.

RE: Mid March near Chicago

If you do come in March, there is a very nice State Park north of Chicago in Zion, IL. It is Illinois Beach State Park and is open all year. We camp there often even during the winter.

RE: Dish NOW/YA Prepaid TV Satellite System

It appears to me that the DishNow service was just a scam to entice people to buy the equipment, then convert them to monthly service customers against their will. My equipment is now removed from the RV and sitting on a shelf in the garage. I have also told my local Radio Shack manager where I purchased the equipment that I am unhappy that they participated in this obvious bait and switch scam and that I will not be shopping their again. I know that they are not responsible for Dish Networks questionable policies. But, if they start losing customers over it, they may tell Dish where to go.
As for me, I purchased a new over the air antenna and converter boxes.

RE: California speed limit

We have the same setup here in Illinois. Cars have a 65MPH speed limit and RV's and Trucks are at 55MPH. I always dive 55 and have never been hit from behind. Most people who aren't totally asleep can see a 12 foot high motorhome in front of them. If their eyes are so bad that they can't see me, then they shouldn't be on the road anyway.
Sounds to me like the CHP is doing the job that the taxpayers are paying them to do. Would you prefer to pay them to not do their job?

We recently replaced our old one with an Aqua Magic "Style" china toilet. It is expensive but my posterior has never been happier. :)

RE: Flex TV from Dish

Well this absolutely SUCKS!
I paid $100 for equipment and $45 for a tripod mount a few months ago for what is now a big paperweight. I called Dish and they told me they would be happy to take $40 per month from me for a service we may use 2 or 3 day per month. I told them what I thought of their no good, greedy outlook on life and hung up.
This was obviously a SCAM to get a bunch of people to buy this junk and then convert them into monthly accounts against our will!

looks like a wet weekend bring rain gear :B
Hey Gordon/Susie did you guys call yet?
We aren't going to make it. Susie caught me cheating and I am grounded.
No, seriously, I have a trip to Missouri in a couple weeks to start the ground breaking for our new house. I got a lot coming out of pocket so we can't make a campout right now. :(

RE: Simple little mod.

Excellent idea! My filler opening is inside a bay where I cannot pour water or antifreeze into it. So, I added a 12 volt electric pump that I got from Home Depot for about $30. I use it to add water or pump bleach into the fresh tank. It also works great for winterizing. I put the pickup hose into a bucket of antifreeze then go inside and open each faucet until I am done.

Nice, but why didn't you use an approved drinking water hose? :h
I just used the green hose that came with the pump to test it. I have since replaced it with a white one.
