RE: Wheel Chocks

Would turning the Rotochoks upside down when installing solve the problem with the skirt clearance?
No, unfortunately it did not help. Rotochoks are without a doubt the best. It is hard to look at anything else having used them. That said, I must use something!

I have no experience with them, but this looked interesting...I use RotoChoks
If you get a set, let me know what you think.

Like this concept very much. However when utilizing leveling blocks these do not work.

RE: Wheel Chocks

Hi, I just got Winfield chocks and they work very well.
There are no tools needed and are quick on and off.
What worries me about these, and BAL's as well, is the following statement from their website:
"The Winfield Stabilizing Wheel Chock is not designed to be used as a
wheel lock or parking brake. The Wheel chock is designed to
substantially reduce unwanted trailer movent."

Wheel Chocks

I am in need of new wheel chocks for my Montana 2955RL 5ver (tandem axle). Had Rotochoks which I loved, but will not fit under the wheel well skirting without pulling on the skirting quite hard. So, what else is out there that others use that apllies pressure to both tires. Been given the cheal yellow chocks to shove under the wheels and do not feel comfortable with them on unlevel ground.

Replacing Shower Head

I have heard that repalcing the shower head in my 5ver will increase pressure and reduce water comsumption. Interested in what brand and model people have used and had success with. Only one I am familiar with is Oxygenics. To make it harder,I need antique brass. ANy help appreciated.

RE: Handy Hints, Gadgets, Products & Gizmos

Travelling in fog. Last night while travelling home in the fog I turned on my Garmin GPS and used it to guide me on curves ahead and major road crossings. It really helped. I also had my fog lights on and travelled slow. The GPS really told me of road contours just ahead by looking at the screen.
Done the same coming down a fog shrouded mountain. Visibility was just beyond hood of my truck, and using GPS I could be prepared for very sharp curves.

RE: Ford 7.3 Engine Block Heater Question

Curious.... I have 2003 F350 with 7.3L and 110,000 miles. No real problems starting at all with temperatures this week in teens at night. At what mileage do most se to replace glow plugs? Is it a slow failure that you notice, or not? Only thing I notice is sort of a miss for a millisecond when starting then blueish white smoke for about 5 seconds. Only does this when cold.

RE: Dropping the Trailer off the Hitch

I have to agree that a thorough self check before, during, and after can help prevent this. NEVER get so comfortable that you think you are too experienced for this to happen to. Rehashing some of the good advice given that I too use:
1) Always chock wheels before doing anything.
2) Use the latching technique described earlier with jaws closed
3) Visually check jaws to see that they engaged Kingpin
4) Have second knowledgeable person verify with you if possible
5) Pull test is a must...pull slightly forward with landing gear
still down but slightly raised. With wheels of 5ver chocked (#1)it
should stop truck from pulling forward. This should be instant stop
6) Checkand recheck yourself. If something does not feel right, it
probably ain't. Stop and start over, same as if interrupted.
Talking, chatting, drinking, and other activities SHOULD NOT
happen during a hitch up or unhitch.
7) If you can afford one and feel uncomfortable, get a Bed Saver.
8) HAVE FUN

RE: Ford 7.3 Engine Block Heater Question

I was having trouble with engine starts and thought glow plugs could be a problem, too. However I had an "old timer" advise (when I was having trouble in -08 degree temperatures, while on a trip) - that he didn't have trouble, and didn't use an engine heater. He recommended "recycling" about 3 times before turning the engine over. I have been following his advice and it has worked without fail. I just turn the ignition on, without turning the engine over, for a few seconds - then turn the ignition back to "off" - and do that 3 times before turning the engine over. Since using this technique I have not had a probem. I still use an engine block heater when I have a place to plug in.
Never heard of this! May give it a try.

RE: Things to do in the Smokey Mountains?

Well staying in Pigeon Forge is something. That is the worst traffic I have ever experienced in my life. YOu could be at one stop light for 20 minutes, easy! After we did it we said we would never stay in PF again. I believe we stayed at Creekside. All campgrounds are packed. Hardest campgrounds to move around in. I would stay outside Pigeon Forge, and go in once to say you did it, then not go back. Nice campgrounds between Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg.
MUST SEES: Cades Cove, wildlife galore... saw 18 bears, hundreds deer and turkey and birds. Timing is everything though, so be patent
Gatlinburg nice town with a beautiful 4th of July parade
Within Pigeon Forge there is tons to do so it really depends on preference. I would have loved to do the day trip within the National Forest provided by some of the outfitters. Can go by 4x4 or less adventrous means.

RE: State of the RV industry

Have a 2008 Keystone Montana and must say it has been nice. Our previous trailers (Forest Rivers and Fleetwood) have been junk. This trailer is no doubt much better made than anything we had experienced. Are we lucky? May be, but I believe Montana has a very good product. Overall though, technology and comfort.laziness has made the RV's much more complicated than ever before. Problems are sure to be more forthcoming.

RE: Superslide Lock?

I must say the owners manual DOES NOT cover it all. I have read mine front to back and it left a lot to be desired. I do encourage everyone to read theirs, but sometimes this forum is better. Remember, the only dumb question is the one NOT asked.

RE: Handy Hints, Gadgets, Products & Gizmos

Thank you all for some cool ideas.I have posted this in other places but wanted to share an idea I had that only takes about 15 minutes to do. Everytime we got to the campsite our clock was on the floor! Soooooooo I picked up a clock movement and made a clock out of the cabinet door!Just open the door to change battery.

Love this idea. Will be working on this one real soon!

RE: Generic decals

Try typing graphic, or decals in eBay search. At one time there were plenty of boat and RV graphics on there. Seems to me I remember saying to myself that I hoped they were still there when I needed to replace the ones on my RV. Best of luck!

RE: Campgrounds near King George, VA

Not really help to you, but I must say I agree that Virginia State Parks have priced themselves out of the range of great deal. Now I may as well pay a few dollars extra and get many more amenities and full hook-up. Live near Virginia Beach, Virginia so I am not familiar with King George.

RE: Why does Camping World over charge for products????

Simply put....they can. Our great eceonomy is built on the premise of supply and demand. As long as someone is willing to pay a given price, then a seller can then charge the price that will sustain their business and customers are willing to pay.
That is why it never hurts to shop around.
