RE: Solar Charger Hookup

I do not know anything about Solar. But from what I THINK I know, the solar cells put out such small amount of current, you will not need a "large" wire. I would assume #12 or #14 should work. Now that I have said the above, I am thinking about a Solar system and I put my two cents in to have someone educate me on what size wire is required. You are 100% correct, best get a pro to hook up your solar when you get it. minimum size wire should be at least #10/2 and you can run 20' from your panel's to your controller and then keep it as short as possible to your battery with no problem's, Don't forget fuses in line also. All of my panel's use 10/2 to a junction box and then #6 to the controller and the same to my batteries as you see I run alot of panel power. Just my thought's

RE: 2001 VW GLS - can it be flat towed?

To all that want to know, Yes it was a professional install and has been on the car for 6 yrs and about 30,000 miles of towing, The metal on a VW is not strong enough to support when the going gets tough, ie. cement jointed roads that are worn out, And I quess that's why VW don't want you towing their vehicles, Thank You, Just my thoughts.

RE: 2001 VW GLS - can it be flat towed?

Just make sure you pull the front end off and check every yr. as I didn't and just about lost the car this past summer, I don't think Blue Ox included enough brackets as the right side was torn off when I found the base plate was loose, considerable right side metal damage, so bad I would not consider putting the base plate back on after repair, no faith in the base plate mounting, it had shakened all bumper bolts loose and they were no where to be found, only thing holding was top bumper bracket bolts, I know for a true fact if I had towed it another 100 miles it would have gone, The reason for all this that we could figure was too many rough hwys in the northern US, Dakota's Wis. and Michigan, cement slab roads. Just a warning to you all out there, VW does not want you towing any of their cars, Must be a reason. Kinda choked rite now cause we don't have a car to flat tow this summer.. Just my thoughts. Sorry for the long post. Hitch was checked about 5000 miles ago.

RE: Alert: If over GVWR in B.C. be aware

BC needs all the money they can get their hands on to pay for the stoopid bloody games, $168.00 fine for a empty washer jug in the back of a pickup box that wasn't tied down, and must use a union made strap to tie it down with, not something made in China, must show breaking strenght of said strap, Give me a friggin break. And they are going by the book for everything.

RE: exhaust brake problems

You don't say who's brake it is, most have a switch on the fuel pump like a BD brake and won't work if cruise control is on, maybe the switch got moved, also a switch to turn power on and off to solenoid, also how is it activated air or electric???

RE: How Many HP is 5.9?

The data tag is on the side of fuel pump on most engines giving you the hp, send the serial # to cummins and they will tell you all , the hp and the day it was built.

RE: Montreal to Toronto North Cookstown KOA

Normally I would suggest the 407, but due to weight issues you're best just to take 401 to 400 to 88. The Toronto area will be a bit of a white knuckle drive, but then again if you're used to driving in Montreal you can drive anywhere.;) I think you meant 401 to 400 to 89 which is Cookstown where the KOA is north of the overpass on the right. Just my thoughts, was there this past summer, $15.00 just to dump my tanks.

RE: Photos of Solar Power System installed this Summer

Total cost was $3400 and change. I also have a solar tax credit due that will defray some of the investment. If you don't mind me saying so, I think you got ripped off if you just got 3 panels and 4 batteries plus controller, where do they justify those costs, please break it down for us. Just my thoughts.

RE: How to connect 4- 6 volt batt without sparking?Found problem

An other good thought would be to turn all the batteries the same way and use some black cables for your neg. side. and put your neg cable in the opposite corner to your pos. Just my thoughts.

RE: Installing Solar Panels

That's why you should mount them about an inch above the roof to get some air under them, That is recomended by the solar people. Just my thoughts.
