RE: Keystone Montana Ventilated Attic

I think the salesman may be sticking his chest out a little on that one! The only thing the attic vents ventilate is the attic. They have no continuity to the space below the ceiling.

RE: 2010 Montana 5th wheel

I did not see you list anything made by Montana! ChrisOther than assembly of others parts, what exactly does Montana make?

RE: Manufactures that install quality tires, offer upgrades.

I'll wager he won't let you walk away because of a set of tires. Does this work? It would never have dawned on me. I would think that if the sales guy can agree, then you were about to pay too much prior to adding requirements to the sale.agree with that!

RE: Seperating Slideouts control

Most new montana's have the valves outside. However this units two slides in the livingroom are not hydraulic. They are electric and work off the pulley and cable system for those two slideouts. There is nowhere to install the hydraulic rams as they would need to raise the floor losing headroom (which is raised already). The other 3 slides are hydraulic with the valves on the outside.Ah, that explains the dilemna with that model. I didn't think about the below floor issue with the slides. I wonder how they worked in the earlier models back in 2003?

RE: 2010 Montana 5th wheel

Just think of Montana or any other manufacturer as a box to hang a bunch of other manufactures "good ideas" (Sureflo, Dometicusa, etc.). Trying to get them all to work in harmony has been an industrial challenge for decades. Montana should and will step up to the plate and fix all your issues, even though you can sometimes come across a rouge dealer that is more interested in sales than return sales. Hang in there - we had a couple of bugs, but they made good on all of them. I do have to live with the "good ideas" that didn't turn out to be such "good ideas" such as my fiberglass countertops, but they have been fixed under warranty and I'm glad to see that Montana immediately went to another manufacturer's "good idea" the following year (Corian).

RE: Seperating Slideouts control

Wow - I didn't know Montana now had 5 slides! Sure enough the new front living room model does. The problem with getting hydraulic slides to operate independant is it takes an independant hydraulic feed hose to each slide. Our first Montana had a single hydraulic loop that pressurized all the slides at once and they one with the least resistance moved first. On this one, we ordered the manifold that lets me turn valves to isolate any or all of the slides independantly which is just a large manifold block with valved hoses to each slide. Then new Montana with the remote option moves the valves for that manifold to the outer panel for convenience. Other brands I have seen actually use electric actuated solenoids that operate the independant slides valves as you choose (Mobile Suites I believe). It's hard to retrofit one to operate independantly if it wasn't done at the factory. It takes some hydraulic work which is messy and hard to get to. I'm betting dollars to donughts that the new Montana 5-slide (3750) does not offer the independant valves in the outside panel because they haven't got the remote panel manufacture to come up with system that will accomodate 5 valves yet?

RE: Manufactures that install quality tires, offer upgrades.

My Jayco came with USA made Goodyear Marathon's.That raises a good question - the Marathon's actually fell into the "china bomb" class when they were truly "china bombs", but now that they have returned as a USA tire, how are they classified? They are still an ST tire, the same price as a China Bomb, and have a load rating very near the G614 only they are still an LRE tire. If Montana uses the Marathon as a factory tire now, are they offering a quality tire? I hate to stereotype all tires with an ST stamp on the side.

RE: 5th wheel tailgates

It's good for those lazy & forgetful older folks. :WWait - when I get to that point I want the retractable steps and handrail that comes with the factory gates :B Hopefully by then they will have a gaurdrail so I don't walk backwards off the gate as I've done in the past. They do look handy for 5ers, but I've heard a few complaints about some of them rusting out in a few years - you might ask for brands. I also think it has been proven out there is no mileage benefit.

RE: Please Help - Potty Question

Ahhh - its always the healthy ones that are the most odiferous :B Do be careful, the wallpaper is kind of cheap in these things and is subject to peeling and spontaneous combustion. We have the open bath type with the toilet room (water closet). I replaced the noisy fan with a fantastic fan in the water closet. To me it was a mistake, as the lowest speed setting is still too high for that small space with the door closed and you can hear it drag down the fan, even with the 2-3" gap at the bottom of the door. The ultimate consequence is EVERYTHING from the floor up passes then NOSE within moments! There is no escape. If I had to do it again I would have put the fantastic fan in the area by the shower outside of the water closet.

RE: landing gear FOPA!

Sounds like the Dealer messed up a little, wasn't thinking about how to hook you up. He probably was just trying to be quick. I've done it to myself at campgrounds - dropped the legs to the full extent, unhitched, only to find out I can't lower it enough to get level because of the grade at the site. Embarrassing a little to have to go restart the diesel and rehook up to change the leg pins to a more conservative hole, especially when the DW has the slides out, the carpets down, the awning, and has margarita mixer running already!

RE: Help!! No hot water...All is A-OKAY :)

It's the brass check-valve on the water outlet from the tank. They break often, sometimes predicated by a whistling sound when hot water is used. I carry a spare. The check valve works in concert with your bypass system to allow you to bypass the tank with only one hand valve.

RE: Trucker GPS

the 765T does have an FM transmitter, I tried it and while it works good it doesn't last long enough because the idea is to use it on an unused FM station where there is static, if there is no static it will not work. That being said, when you are en-route unused stations in one place may be used another place 80 miles away and you have to hunt for another unused station. It would be nice if you could setup another FM radio that can/would receive signals from the 765T without interruption and not have to change the stations.I admit the FM transmitter is pretty worthless near the big cities, because there are no gaps in the band quiet enough to use it. I use the hardwire cable to input to the radio if the radio accepts it. Most of the rental cars I get have the input jack. It really helps with the jack because I listen to audio books through the NUVI.

RE: side winder or pullrite superglide

http://www.etrailer.com/faq-sidewinder.aspx I have the Superglide that works perfect. I can see from the above link the sidewinder might be as good or better solution. My only concern would be if the pin was extended to check with the OEM and see if they approve. While the pivot point may be moved back the load on the axle is still same position over the axle. Any side force (sway) would seem to be moved back some but nothing like a TT. The sidewinder might be no longer than a factory extended pin with no addition leverage on the frame. Very good post. You are correct the weight is still placed at the axel, only the pivot point is back. But who cares where it is on the truck, its where the load point on the trailer is that causes the stress on the front of the trailer. The above posts are right, the sidewinder is no different than an extended pin box, but an extended pinbox ALSO puts additional stress on the frame.

RE: How fast do you drive?

What did Wyoming do, move the slow lane to the left? Whats next driving on the left like England. hahaha - no, they do occassionally to extend the life of the highway (I80) before they have to repave it.

RE: How fast do you drive?

So I take it the ST tire crowd needs to speed up to 70-75 to please those who live life in the fast lane? I thought the question was interstates not 2 lane roads. I would say most 2 lane roads have a lower limit than an interstate. I would venture to say no law enforcement officer would think 60-65 would be a hazard when the "LIMIT" is 70-75 on an interstate. I thought thats the reason behind the signs that say "slower traffic in right lane".You're right, the question was interstates. Somebody steered it off into two lanes and I just followed. As stated before, I drive the speed limit on the interstates too, but I could care less what speed anybody else drives as long as they are not occupying the left lane. (sans those states such as Wyoming that have moved the slow lane to the left)

RE: How fast do you drive?

As many cars I see going over the speed limit on US interstates, I'm surprised by how many are going under. I find that the most dangerous situations occur on the freeway when there's a bottle-neck of traffic stuck behind a vehicle that is going slower than the speed limit. Stuck on cruise control they are oblivious to the growing frustration and risky driving that is developing behind them. It causes people to try to make unsafe passing attempts. I don't drive at one set speed. I consider road and traffic conditions and drive accordingly. If that means I need to speed up over the speed limit to pass a slow vehicle, I will accelerate. And I will accelerate decisively to complete the pass quickly so not to create a rolling road block. If I need to go slower than the speed limit because of conditions, then I will. To me driving is a pleasure and that requires active participation, not the mentality of a commuter who just sets and forgets.Well said! My road rage usually starts when I get behind some guy that thinks the whole world needs to slow down because he did. You guys are everywhere - driving 15 mph under the speed limit on a two lane road ignoring the mirrors. Your motives don't make sense for a world that needs to share the roads. You getting 6.5 mpg instead of 6 mpg or finding your sweet spot means nothing to the rest of us - you made the choice in the rig you drive. If it's your reflexes that have degraded, maybe it's time to hang up the keys and leave the driving to Greyhound! My limitation is usually horsepower on an uphill pull and deceleration on a downhill grade, and I remain very concious of the folks behind me that I am inconveniencing and I make every effort to pull over and let them pass when I just can't drive the designed speed of the road.

RE: side winder or pullrite superglide

Our trailer is an 07 model and it came from the factory with the Sidewinder hitch. So they have been out much longer than a year.Nuff said from me - you guys can have them. You won't catch me with one - ever.

RE: side winder or pullrite superglide

I read the posts from non-sidewinder owners and wonder where they get there opinions from. Not wanting to be disrespectful here but how does the Sidewinder put a large extra load on the pin. You can push the Sidewinder out of the way with one hand, or your head if you are not careful. RicaticNot trying to be disrepectful, but I certainly didn't mean it put an extra load on the pin while DISCONNECTED. The additional stress comes from moving the pin load of 2,400 lbs or so over a foot further away from the frame mount than it is without the sidewinder. The additional leverage placed on the 5er frame while bouncing down the highway is far more than what would be experienced with the standard pin placement. Again - to each his own, but I think time will tell how well these sidewinders work out. They have only been out for a little over a year.

RE: How fast do you drive?

Thanks to all who weighed in on their driving speeds. I averaged most all of these posts and came up with an average speed of 63 mpg of all drivers who posted. Thanks for your responses! Also interesting to note that over 70% of the responders that said they drove less than the speed limit also volunteered some sort of justification of why. It must be a guilt thing.
