RE: Probably belongs in routes and trips - but

Well hope this doesn't result in a double post, seems to have been a glitch when I hit Post Message... but so far a lot of good suggestions. But a little more info would help. When do you plan to be in Idaho? Some great places aren't accessible until much later when the snow goes away and the roads open up. Also, what sort of truck/camper combo do you have? This would make a lot of difference as to where you are able to go.

RE: cover for flooring in camper

We just use a simple clear vinyl runner. It is easy to clean and easy to remove when the need arises to clean under it.

RE: Towing a jeep on a trailer behind truck with 9.5' Apex

We regularly tow our Jeep on a 16' car hauler behind our truck/9.5 Outfitter Apex. You will definitely need an extension, we have a Super Hitch with Super Hitch extension. No worries about breaking that baby. I flat towed for years but finally gave it up mostly because it seemed to me that it caused undue wear on the tires and drivetrain of the Jeep. Also being able to backup is a real bonus. If you do flat tow, don't underestimate the strain that can put on an extension. There may not be any tongue weight but that doesn't mean that the right combination of circumstances can't put one hell of a strain on an extension. Prior to the Super Hitch I used a homemade extension I made out of heavy wall tubing thinking that with no tongue weight I would never have any problems. I didn't until I hit just the right combination of a big bump and hitting the brakes at the right (or wrong) time. That put a LARGE bend in my homemade extension.... and it wasn't lightweight material. I tried to bend it back into shape with a shop press and couldn't even budge it.

RE: What Outfitter modifications did you order?

Apex 9.5 A/C, awning, canoe/kayak rack, Novakool fridge, oven, Fantastic fan, uh... can't remember what else. Things I wish I had done: Cassette toilet and Jerry can holder.

RE: Bugs on camper?

X2 on Mr. Clean magic eraser, works great. I've asked before with no response, but why couldn't one apply the film plastic like you can get for the fenders/mirrors/headlights of cars? I had it on my last car and it was wonderful. Bugs pretty much just hosed off.

RE: Outfitter exterior damage

More info please. Did they all come on at once or did they gradually appear over time ? Where on the camper are they located. I can't quite tell from the picture.

RE: Best camping chair

My favorite are the Coleman Director chairs with the side table, much like the one posted above. My favorite if space is a consideration is a bag chair sold under the ARB name (same people that make air lockers etc). It is Very sturdy and comfortable for a bag chair.

RE: Where do you carry your director style camp chairs?

Sometimes in the under bed storage compartment of our Outfitter, sometimes on a ladder rack. Either works well. They might get a little dusty on the ladder rack, but it knocks off easy enough. Now if it is raining.. that's a different story.

RE: So what places are on your bucket list?

6 weeks driving the length of the Baja Pennisula, stopping at every village and beach that catches my eye.

RE: Settle an arguement

Well that turned out to be a fun question. And to those that wondered, it was just a theoretical question rather than "dog in RV" specific. My take after reading answers from people obviously a lot smarter than me is that, yes a fan can make a difference, but not enough to make an appreciable difference. I'm going to call the arguement a draw.... at least that is what I will tell the wife.

Settle an arguement

The wife and I have had an ongoing arguement about whether or not a fan will cool a dog or cat. She is convinced that it will while I on the other hand am convinced that it does nothing for them. My logic being that the only reason a fan feels cool to us is because we sweat, the fan evaporates the sweat making us cooler, while a dog or cat doesn't sweat so it's nothing but wind to them.

RE: Cost of teeth cleaning?

I'll know after this Friday. Our 10 year mixed breed goes in for her first cleaning then. They estimated $275 but that could change if they have to extract a tooth that is broken.

RE: How many catboxes fit in a 30' Motor Home?

2 cats 1 box in a 9.5 popup truck camper.... I'm either very brave or very foolish. I did learn though not to position the cat box next to the propane detector.

RE: My First Truck Camper!

Very good choice with the Northland. I've owned 3 of them over the years and while they aren't that well known, they are excellent campers.

RE: lost remote - couldn't raise roof on Outfitter popup

We also have a 2010 that had no manual backup. We stopped by Outfitter last summer while passing through Colorado, and Bob installed one for free. Only took him about 10 minutes.

RE: Washing machines and your cats

Friends of ours came up missing their cat one morning a few years back and after some head scratching remembered that they had their freezer open just before going to bed. Sure enough they checked and found one live but very cold kitty inside.

RE: Packing away camp

I usually just throw away the bag the tent came in and buy a bigger duffel bag to put it in. Saves a lot of grief.

RE: Tent camping with a C-pap

Friend of mine just used one of those rechargeable jump start batteries and an invertor.
