RE: I'm Sleeping on the Ceiling Tonight

I'm thinking that I'm not liking snakes much anymore. We were in Thailand a couple of months ago, and on a bamboo log raft ride on the Ping River near the Golden Triangle. There was splashing and much commotion (screaming) on the raft in front of us. The guide was trying to kill a 9' long python swimming across the river (for dinner) and the UK couple on his raft wanted nothing to do with it. He failed but not for trying. I think that he lost his tip... and dinner.

RE: I'm Sleeping on the Ceiling Tonight

Yikes.. We were just at Steamboat Rock SP, and the CG hosts came around and warned us about the rattle snakes in the CG. One was coiled up under a vehicle one morning 2 sites from us.
Our son's baby sitter's husband was Park Ranger at Sun Lakes SP about 30 years ago, and invited us up to his house. He had a 6' long rattle snake in an aquarium that was as large around as my forearm. I was used to smaller Pacific rattlers that were 1/3 that size. Yikes, again.
A camped with a friend's family at Alta Lake SP about 50+ years ago (I'm old) and they caught a rattle snake and a 6' long gopher snake and brought home. We used to play with that snake, until it got away from us. I can imagine some kid seeing a tail sticking out from the brush in Western WA, and pulling out that snake thinking that it was a garter snake. Yikes again.

RE: "Sirius" radio problem, 2008 Bounder

So as a 65 Falcon Lover?... have you ever been to Argentina? Ford sent much of their production equipment there in ~64. 1964 Falcons were everywhere when we were there in 1995, and they have slowly evolved over the years, but are still very similar. I thought that I was in a time warp. They also were proud of electrification/street lighting projects in Buenos Aires, and people drove around with their lights off at night to celebrate their success? It was easy to get run over in the dark.

RE: Water leak from area behind Frig

I just fixed a loose connection in my ice-maker hose connection. It filled the bottom pan of the refrigerator ~30 x 22 x 1-1/2" deep, and sloshed out when cornering or when sitting for awhile. It occasionally ran out on the floor below the refrigerator, into the outside storage compartment below, and dripped on the ground. I'm glad that it only leaked for about a week, and we were camping in ~90F weather for 5 days after I discovered it, so things dried out pretty thoroughly.
There should also be a condensate drain that drains into a cup or to the outside, but it sounds like you have more water issues than that.

RE: Slideouts and jacks not working

Is this a HWH system? If so, give them a call, it may take a day or two, but they offer good information. They also sent a written confirmation of our conversation, that described the fixes we discussed and that we should perform. They were spot on.
You are right about Winnebago, they told me that it depends on what day of the week the system was installed as to it's location?

RE: "Sirius" radio problem, 2008 Bounder

We are also trying to work through that issue. I think that you will need a subscription to your pre-installed receiver for the system to operate.
I have a XM receiver with a "Lifetime" package. I transport the receiver between home, office and MH.
My MH is equipped with a rooftop antenna and XM receiver (that requires an additional subscription). I have located the antenna and under-dash receiver. I hope to connect that antenna to my pre-paid receiver to operate the system.
I would like for the system to work through the installed Jensen radio by perhaps connecting my receiver in lieu of the existing module, but that may be too much to hope for? I'll find out this week-end.

RE: Wildwood Campground & RV Park, Ft Bragg, CA - Reviews?

We stayed at Caspar Beach RV Park just south of Fort Bragg last week. It was great, right across the road from a nice beach, and the Owners were terrific. I'd stay there again if in the area. The spots are a bit narrow for large rigs with slides, but they do a good job of making it work and alternating large rigs.
Caspar Beach RV ParkI have friends workamping there right now
The help there was magnificent and they all had a great sense of humor. Tell them that we very much enjoyed our stay there. The Owners even came by with home-grown lemons to share with everyone. (I loved it in my dry vodka martini with a twist). One of the residents shared abalone shells with us... but unfortunately not his freshly caught abalone meat from his dive that day.

RE: Can't fill gas tank in CA... nozzle won't fit into opening.

Part of our adventure of trying to get gas was our encounters with eccentric and aggressive individuals at our stops. At several stops I was confronted and was mildly frightened by the experiences. I had my wife lock the door to the MH while we were stopped. Along our route and at our stops there appeared to be many apparent drug and alcohol challenged individuals. It was a truly sad situation.
I searched crime statistics for Eureka/Arcada and they are in the top 1% for crime in the US, and lead the country for cities their size in many categories. It is unfortunately a city that has lost control.
In the 57,000 miles that we have driven all over this country, I have not had that experience. Of course, tomorrow is a new day. Sorry to hear of your situation. It can certainly 'taint' an area when a bad experience occurs.
Safe travels,
MM.
We also had several encounters with people that were offended with the size and appearance of our Class A (and many that admired it). There is also an active thread on RV.Net about similar situations. It's disappointing when people don't understand what we have done to own one.

RE: Can't fill gas tank in CA... nozzle won't fit into opening.

Mr Mark
I should have posted a smiley face after my comment about Southern CA. We do enjoy all parts of CA, and have great friends in Malibu and Pasadena. which we visit often. It is truly a magical day when you can see the Santa Monica Mountains, which happens more now that in the past.
The irritating situation with my nozzle is the price of progress, and I blame W/I more that I do CA. They are trying to create a better situation for themselves... and us.
Do I dare say anything about global warming?

RE: Can't fill gas tank in CA... nozzle won't fit into opening.

So, I'm getting gas in Oregon, and I say to the attendant (I can't touch the nozzle), I hope that this fits, and he says.... you come from CA? I say it didn't fit there, and he says... Just recut the opening at the back of the fiberglass enclosure and lower the intake. I've done it for a friend. OK.. I'll try that. I love getting wisdom from people that are actually involved in the work needed.

RE: CA 199 from Crescent City, CA to Grants Pass, OR

We just completed the drive and are now at Crater Lake. It was a great drive with a few tight spots, but well worth the effort. Much of the road is 55/65 mph with adequate turn-outs.
Highway 1 from Fort Bragg to Leggett was actually a very similar drive. I'd do them both again.
Just East of Patrick Creek there is a well scalloped guard rail on a very tight corner, and guess where we met the on-coming loaded logging truck.

RE: Can't fill gas tank in CA... nozzle won't fit into opening.

Come on guys.. stop the California bashing. It's a great state (well except for a lot of the Southern half). I have also had issues with nozzle fit in WA and AZ. W/I improperly designed the fuel fill opening, and CA did not allow for it's use. W/I has apparently not offered any help with resolving this?
As per the link I posted above, some options include moving the inlet outboard and tilting slightly downward with shims. I'll try that first so that I don't have to carry another thing for a single use. If that doesn't work, I'll modify an oil can spout to extend the nozzle, and add some method of compressing the rubber cuff without spending $20 for a McCuff.

Thanks
I think that the McCuff solves a part of the problem. It seems that it is a unresolved problem between Winnebago/Itasca and CA air pollution regulations. No one is stepping up to resolve it.
Link to another discussion about this.

Can't fill gas tank in CA... nozzle won't fit into opening.

I tried getting the gas nozzle inserted into the filler tube, and it won't fit. It seems that the nozzle with vent recovery system will not pivot forward enough to allow the nozzle to fit into the lower opening. I tried 5 gas stations (Shell/Texaco/Texaco/Independent) in Eureka/Arcata, CA until I could finally get one to fit (Circle K/76). The upper fiberglass trim around the door for the fuel tube is part of the problem.
In 2 of the gas stations I could hold the vent recovery cuff up and lightly press the handle to allow a minimal amount of fuel into the tank. It took several minutes for 5 gallons. In 2 gas stations I could not even get that far.
I have seen an adapter here on RV.Net that was made from a oil can spout, but can not seem to find it now by searching. Some motorcycles apparently have a similar problem.
Any thoughts.

RE: Can rough roads create a suction from the water tank vent?

Lynnmor
I agree about the check valve, thus my earlier question about pressurizing the tank. Upon thinking about it, even a plug should have a small hole to allow the tank to vent for expanding water, etc. I might (probably would) forget to remove it for use.
Re-routing the line seems to be the best option.

RE: Can rough roads create a suction from the water tank vent?

I like the ideas about check valves and an extended vent line. I think that I'll try to extend the vent line to the side of the MH from its center location (so I can easily get to it) and provide a loop or high spot. I'll try a plug or valve it that doesn't solve the problem.
Thanks, Ron

RE: Can rough roads create a suction from the water tank vent?

Thanks all for the responses.
I think that I can visualize water sloshing out, but probably not siphoning... although some of those corners were pretty impressive just south of Yachats. My wife gave me a side glance or two.
I like the idea of a plug or valve in the vent tube while underway. Are there any issues with pressurization while using the pump?

Can rough roads create a suction from the water tank vent?

I have been driving some windy and hilly roads on Highway 101 on the Oregon Coast with the MH, and it seems that I have lost water from the water tank. Can surging water in the tank leak out the vent tube and create a suction that would drain water from the tank? It seems to do that if I overfill the tank?
I noticed that a bit of water was dripping out the vent tube when I stopped at a view point.
