Zion Tunnel Length Restrictions Strictly Enforced

FYI, the park is STRICTLY enforcing the maximum length restrictions (I'd gone thru 1-2x/year the past few years). My fifth-wheel rig was "officially measured" as being 6 inches over the limit, and I was turned around to backtrack and take the long way around today. No tolerance allowed, no quarter given. Be advised.

RE: Red Mountain Pass

It's worth the drive (in a car or truck)- scenery is breath-taking! Ouray is a neat little town.

RE: Best Route: Coastal S. Oregon (Gold Beach area) to I-5 South

Thanks for your help on this! Hwy. 199 alternative sounds good. Are there any problems with length on that road (35' fiver plus 1-ton truck)? Did a search at CalTrans, but not clear if I'm still exempt at over 40' total because I'm towing (not MH), or whether there's an absolute 40' limit. Thanks!

RE: Red Mountain Pass

I live in W. Colorado, and have driven my car over 550 from Ouray many times. I have a 35' fiver, and I would not drive it. I think nothing of a 10% grade like Slumgullion Pass, but I would not want to try my luck on the 550. The worst part is the section just south of Ouray: very narrow, twisting, sharp dropoffs. I just drove it again, and was thinking maybe... but when I was on it, imagining the scene, I said "forget it". If you make it past there, it's not TOO bad.

Best Route: Coastal S. Oregon (Gold Beach area) to I-5 South

Towing 35' fifth-wheel, which of the west-east roads would be my best bet to cut over from the Southern Oregon Coast (Bandon/Gold Beach) to catch the I-5 south to Redding, CA? Hwy. 299 near Arcata, or is it worth going north or farther south??
