RE: I'm so, so excited!

A vintage motorhome in good condition is likely to draw a crowd of admirers at any campground. Be prepared to answer questions and have fun.

RE: Good Sam experience with Class B

We had a similar experience with AAA when we called for them to change a tire on our minivan. Driver arrived with a "roll-on" and said he could have been there a lot sooner if he had known that we did not need to be taken to a repair center.

RE: Leaking Skylight Windows - RT

The front windows on our RT200 were resealed under warranty. Not sure how because it was done before we bought it. Have not had any more trouble with them but the rear window (to be opened only for emergency escape) has required sealant along the top hinge. I used the clear sealant obtained from the dealer but I must have applied it too thick the first time and bubbles formed which led to another leak. I stripped it off and (carefully) applied more just before an extended trip. The directions say apply to a clean dry surface and protect from rain for 12 hours after applying. That might be impossible if a leak developed while on the road. Fortunately through this forum I had read about "Captain Tolly's Creeping Crack Cure" available at marine supply stores. It can be applied in the rain and is said to penetrate along with the rain and solidify to seal cracks that may have been unseen. I haven't used it but keep a tube with me just in case.

RE: Stealth B Camping around MD Anderson

Lakeview is very nice but has become very popular so reservations are probably necessary now. We have stayed at most of the listed parks including the one in Manvel (which is way out in the country and was quite an experience finding after dark). If you want to settle in and not have to drive anywhere Lakewood is a great place to be. However you mentioned STEALTH camping. When just at the medical center for a few hours we have parked at the Metro Transit lot on Fannin south of the 610 loop and ridden the light rail to the medical center.

RE: Why Workamp?

I have not tried workcamping but I have talked with some workcampers at state parks who loved their job. One was a "Snowbird" who worked at a living history museum. He domonstrated some of the woodworking skills of colonial times while his wife demonstrated a typical colonial kitchen. They returned every year often bringing with them some antique tool they had found to add to the atmosphere. Another worked the entrance gate at a campground and just enjoyed talking to people from different places. They had some time to visit other places in the area, but also enjoyed their work and made our visit more enjoyable too.

RE: How Tall

Hey Toyman, I had not planned to buy anything much taller than your Sprinter when I designed my building, but I'm glad I made the center door 12 feet high because I now have my eye on a Winnebago Via (Class A minus) which is just under 11 feet tall. Drive on down the penensula past the marina and you will see several tall motorhome garages. Send me a PM if you want to check out one made for an Allegro Bus. Ron

RE: A dfferent sort of rental idea...

If you know how to take a sea shower, quite a few for one person. It's actually possible to wash the stinky parts and shampoo short hair with as little as one gallon of water. BTDT. Even being less water-stingy, I've boondocked comfortably for over a week straight in both my prior B and current B-sized C without access to a dump station. I still had FW and tank space left. Maybe not luxury, but sure as hades not "totally impractical".... Jim, "Keyboard actuator failure. Replace actuator and continue." did you boondock and frolic in the woods or did you boondock without taking real showers and meet the public in a business setting? a big difference. 'bumpy It doesn't take much water to get clean. Most of the water use is to make sure ALL of the soap is rinsed off. We discovered "No Rinse Shampoo" at Bass Pro Shop. We still rinse, just not as thoroughly and it takes away the fear of running out of water which has happened to me more than once.

RE: Class B Spring Rally (B Social Group) 04/16-19/2010

Ron and I checked out the By the River campground when in Kerrville for the Sweetheart Rally! Nice river front campground! February 14 was wet and cold at Buckhorn in Kerrville, but there are neat places to drive and things to do in and around Kerrville! Wow. By The River is ON the river, not by it!!:B The waterfront campsites back up to the Guadalupe River Fork. The river fork has a great little water fall and looks good for swiming! Little rigs and walkers can cross the low water dam to the large island in order to picnic or sit beside the main part of the river. The campground is grass and level. Ron has already packed our 'under the awning' rug for the trip. The island is a great place for those who love to hike and walk. It is grassy with large waterfront trees. BTW please go to Rallies, Shows and Gathering to view the RV'ers Support Our Troops Rally(April 29-May1) which is after our BSG. If anyone is interested in contributing to this rally, Ron and I will be responsible for taking any donations to Buckhorn after the BSG get-to-gether. We look forward to seeing everyone!

RE: 1994 RoadTrek - TV Antenna??

The built-in antenna in my RT200 works very well if I am near a major city. The digital signal is either very good or not at all----so where analog stations would previously have been received with a little "snow" they now are not received at all. I would much rather have my built-in antenna than a crank-up rotating antenna. I tried amplified rabbit ears at (our weekend) home without success. I gave up and went to cable once we were retired and living in what was our weekend home far away from any major city.

RE: Looks like a good deal?

Has craigslist been highjacked by con men (and/or women)? I sold our TC and bought our B from craigslist. Both were very straight-forward, easy transactions. I had a bike for sale a few months ago and got some weird replys, so I just dropped the whole thing. Too bad. It has been a great resource. Craigslist is still a good resource. The site advises to avoid scams by buying locally. If someone places an ad in one city (or several cities) and the item advertized is not available to inspect and deal face to face, then it is probably a scam. Don't give up on Craigslist, just don't fall for some Ebay type transaction.

RE: El Paso to Brownsville - best route

Most definitely HWY 90. Stop in each town and ask what they have to make you stay a while. Each Visitors center is ready and willing to give you the information necessary to tempt you to stay and most are really worth it!! If you get a chance to stop at a Texas border welcome stop, pick up the book "TEXAS STATE TRAVEL GUIDE" Check out the cities you will travel though and make it a liesurely drive. For instance, in Marfa you can have lunch at the hotel where Giant was filmed and spend the evening looking for 'the Marfa lights'. Fort Davis a few miles north of Alpine is worth a stop. McDonald observatory near Fort Davis, Fort Davis State Park, Lunch at Indian Lodge, Sul Ross State University in ALpine shows Alpine off as a West Texas college town. AND even if you have time a drive to the basin in Big Bend National park is worth it! HWY 90 is a great way to travel and see history.. Del Rio has a great Winery! The Bank in Uvalde is home to two of Rembrant's works....The Uvalde Opera HOuse is fantastic. Bracketville has the Alamo movie set...and lots more... I want to go back! I will go back! Enjoy the drive!

RE: Mount Airy, North Carolina ??

Add the granite quarry to your must see list. It is unbelievably huge. When we went into the office and talked to the receptionist, she gave us Quarry information and a 3x3 sample of the gray/black/white granite they produce.!!! Our sample has silver in it and just sparkles! We also saw the police car you can rent to drive around town. Great visit. Good food and good shopping! Glad to hear they have a CG. We stayed at the city park in town along with the carnival. Interesting !

RE: Tires - Defining "Cold" Temperature

The OP was asking about tire pressure "cold" in summer vs northern winter. I hadn't thought much about it until driving my wife's new car on a 25 degree morning. Tires with correct pressure when ambient temperature was 70 now caused a low pressure warning. Someone posted that tire pressure can change by about 1 psi per 10 degree temperature, so when checking tires before heading south from the frozen north should the tires be 5 to 10 psi below the proper "cold" inflation pressure?

RE: Home heating oil instead of diesel

I don't own any on-road diesel vehicles but I have a diesel tractor and a small excavator. When I saw how little I would save by using non-taxed diesel, I decided it wasn't worth the trouble. So I'm paying road use tax on fuel for my "Big Boy" toys.

RE: The importance of the indoor shower

We use campground facilities for showers most of the time, but we have stayed in parks with full hookups but no showers, some with no hot water and one that would have required walking through mud to get to and from the bath house. After our first motorhome burned, we made do with a van with beds and a portable toilet. We camped with friends with tents and considered our van to be just a steel tent. Our current B has an aisle shower which is OK, but a more convenient shower will be a requirement for our next one.

RE: RV Park San Antonio,TX ?

Alamo KOA is on Grembler road, near the AT&T center. Nice Quiet CG with bus stop across the street. We leave our cats in the MH and take the bus to town, then do the trolly! Great transportation. Also, after staying for a few days, and riding the bus around the same time daily, we got to know the bus riders and enjoyed the 'local' advice from them!
