RE: Water Heater - Dead?

Yes, he should have covered that, because the manual is worthless.

RE: Water Heater - Dead?

OK a newbee question. What is the difference in the outside switch at the water heater and the switch inside. Is one for gas power and the other electric?

RE: Road Trip / Where have you been this summer!

We spent two weeks at Huntington Beach State Park, South Carolina in late June, early July. It was hot but the breezes on the beach made it nice. It is also the best place to see and photograph migrating wading birds like herons, egrets,
spoonbills, etc. We are getting ready to go back for another week in September.
HBSP is next to Murrells Inlet which is S.C.'s seafood capital. Can't wait.

RE: New to the world of travel trailers - tell me your thoughts

These are the problems I had the first 18 months:
1.The cieling hook that holds the tent ridge pole was installed backwards.
2.The hot water sink handle flew off when I turned the city water on and flooded the trailer. Took it to the dealer, said he fixed it but it happened again so they gave me a new faucet system ($17 made in China, but it works well).
3. Shower head constantly leaked so I replaced it.
4. Microwave door will not open without wedging in a knife.
5. Pump connection was cracked and water leaked on to the carpet on two trips until I figured out where the leak was.
6. The folding dining table would not fold, the dealer fixed that.
7. The radio would not power on during one outing.
8. The cable TV connection was not properly wired.
But I think I've got everything in order for my beach trip next week. Maybe...

The 233S is nice. I should have bought that one. But it is a FR product so be prepared to be "afixins" little things quite often. Get a big truck.

RE: Trailer Brakes Locked Up?

OK, so I feel like a real dummy. That was the problem, the emergency brake cable had dislodged. My DW said it would be something simple. I learned something else when I went to the camper service center to check out the TV to eliminate it from the above problem. I was told I didn't have the "charge back" module and fuse installed so my TV was not charging the trailer battery. So all this time I was wondering why my battery was always so low. So much for a newbie to learn. Boy, tent camping wasn't so bad after all! Thanks again for all the help guys.

RE: Trailer Brakes Locked Up?

I will definitely check that out. That does sound like that is the likely problem. I did look at the cable, but probably not close enough. Thanks guys!

Trailer Brakes Locked Up?

I washed my trailer getting it ready for a trip next week. I then hooked it up to the truck but did not connect the trailer plug to the truck since I was just going from the back of the house to the front. When I started to drive off I saw that I was just "dragging" the trailer, no wheels turning. So I plugged in the connection, but still the same. The truck instrument message display said "trailer wiring problem". Later after messing with the problem some the message read "trailer disconnected" even though it was connected. So I can't figure out if the problem is with the TV or the trailer. I'll check with the trailer service people first. I have read of some issues with Ford's OEM trailer controller, but I feel like it might be a short in the wiring of the trailer side. Has anybody had any experience with this? I'm glad, though, that this happened a week before my trip and not the day before.

RE: Random Newbie Questions

Besides some extention mirrors which sometimes fall off I got a rear view camera and installed it on the back of the camper and hung the monitor over the rear view mirror which is useless when towing. Check out RearViewSafety.com

RE: Dometic Patty O'Shade

Thanks for the quick reply, rgolding. I don't know the make of the awning, but I'll try what you did.

Dometic Patty O'Shade

Does anybody use this awning shade attachment? I have one but can't see how to install it. Someone said it slides in the awning slit, but I don't see that happening with the awning I have. Maybe holding it up on the awning roller and retracting the awning some. But that would take three people. I guess I'm missing something here. I tried to find a You Tube video showing an installation but no luck.
Any suggestions?

RE: Jayco Eagle vs Keystone (Cougar/Laredo)

Where does the Jayco White Hawk rank among those you have mentioned. They have one with an outside kitchen. I am thinking of upgrading to the 28' Bunkhouse model White Hawk from a Hybrid.

RE: Increasing mileage when towing

Does anybody use these "air dams" or wind breakers on the roof of their TV? I used to see them all the time, but haven't seen any recently.
My last camping trip to Orlando from Atlanta last New Years for a Bowl game was very expensive. About $50 every 100 miles. I could have gotten a very nice hotel room for the gas money I used. I'm also not crazy about those crowded urban campgrounds. I guess I have to learn to ignore and not look at my gas receipts.
