RE: We found a camper!!

California schools are not in good shape either. You are looking at 35 kids in a classroom unless you took a job at a private school. What part of California are you heading to so we can give more info? If LA not very RV friendly.

RE: California Fire

And people are also misinformed as to the system
http://www.iaff1775.org/news/local/294-the-truth-about-firefighter-retirement
its not always about line of duty deaths, or post employment cancers. it is the haunting memories. the panicked husband screaming save my wife while the kids watch stunned. its the wife staring at you after unsucessful cpr. its holding the 13 year old after you tell her you can't help daddy. the screams of pain. almost every bad call from my career is stuck in my head regardless of the counciling i received.
what did you take away from your career?
I'm no firefighter, but this was the case in my family. The vision of my father in law is etched in my brain as he was unconsolable as my mother in law was loaded into the ambulance. They tried but could not revive her.
I'd be curious to see what the life expectancy of a fireman is with all the carcinogen exposure with fires?

RE: Grand Canyon, Bryce, Zion

One of my favorite moments of Bryce Canyon was the Mossey Cave Waterfall. It is on Hwy 12 (east) pass the entrance of Bryce Canyon there is a mile marker for it. It is an easy hike and above the waterfall you can wade in the water.
Here is one of our pictures:

RE: Trip report: boondocking in Sequoia National Forest

I love your trip reports. I keep telling DH we need to head up there since we are already in the Central Valley.

RE: Emergency escape window height

I think we all need to check to see if we can get ourselves through the window in the first place. The ladder may not come into play at all.

RE: Do I have enough saved to go full time ?

I love this forum and have found invaluable advice for numerous issues around RVing in general. However, for a decision as important as this one, I would definitely recommend you seek professional advice from a financial advisor. There are just too many variables re your time horizon, gov benefits, health considerations, and how your invested capital may keep up with inflation while you are on the road all those years. It is great to get feedback from so many well-meaning full timers before you, but every situation is unique and no one knows your own financial needs the way you do. It would be disappointing to discover down the road that you could no longer continue due to following the advice of an online forum.
It's kind of like asking legal advice on a forum. By all means, get opinions as a starting point, but then seek professional advice. Maybe you already thought of this and just wanted to seek some input from RVing friends.
Good luck in your plans!
Howie
How many financial planners know the RV lifestyle and how to supplement income while on the road?
An honest question is would Obamacare help you guys while Medicare kicks in?

RE: Our new camping spot

I think your are underpriced. I'd charge $15/day for an exclusive camping spot. You can always charge less if no one books the site, but people always grumble when the price goes up.

RE: Picture From Last Saturday Night....

Yes, we do this only when the Techy comes along. The only difference is we use a white fitted sheet over the slide. I recommend going to Goodwill for a cheap one.
For the record we did this in Bryce Canyon at Ruby's. We talked to the neighbor's before hand a couple actually joined us and brought popcorn. Feature film was Transformers.

RE: Stuck with Rude Neighbors Argh...

Be sure to leave your outside lights on tonight, and about midnight, hit the remote on your vehicle key and beep the horn locking the doors. Get up early and warm your vehicle up (about 6:00 am), and be sure to encourage the kids to get into a fight at 6:30 am!
Remind me never to get you angry if your my neighbor. Those are the things that drive me nuts about camping.

RE: California- San Diego and up. cheap/boondocking places

Please be advised that our state campgrounds start at $35/night for dry camping. Dockweiler Beach is a LA county park is $55-65/night.
I would look into San Diego County, Orange County and San Luis Obispo county parks more reasonable.

RE: CA I5 Tejon pass (Grapevine) road surface condition?

They are currently working on it, but it is in bad shape. You might lose a filling. Worse section is between Gorman and Pyramid Lake.

RE: Warranty work refused

I still think it is bad business. Rv warranties typically last a year and then we are all paying customers. Most of us keep our trailers longer than a year.

RE: DW won't drive

My husband should be proud of me as I have towed all our toys: jet ski's, boat, TT and now 5th wheel. I cheat when launching the boat I put the tailgate down so I can see.
I payed close attention during our PDI on the TT. On our first trip DH hurt his back and I had to drive. Luckily we were within one gas tank of being home, so I filled up before we left. He talked me through the whole thing. I made it home safely and even backed the trailer into storage. It wasn't centered but between the lines is all that mattered. I do half the driving on most trips even with the 34' 5th wheel. Gas stations still intimidate the he** out of me and I would rather unhitch and fill up than to pull into some stations.

RE: How hard is it to book campsite in Yosemite?

I have canceled the reservation and it automatically showed up on the internet.
We like to stay in Wawona and it is much easier to reserve. You need multiple computers and click, click, click away two minutes before and keep clicking.
