RE: Nearest campground (42') to Beverly Hills, CA

Dockweiler State Beach is the closest campground to Beverly Hills. It is located at the end of the 105 fwy, but close to the 405/105 interchange. In early morning traffic I'd take the 105 East to 405 North take the La Cienega exit and take La Cienega to the 10 fwy after that google the location of Cedars. Good luck with it being RV Friendly. This park is 15 miles to Cedars, Malibu RV park is 25 miles. Mind you this is all relative as it is LA, but I'd plan on a 45 min drive in traffic from Dockweiler. Prices are high here as well, rates are $55-65/night if memory serves me right.

Thumbs up Good Sam

I made one too many stops today and the truck died at the bank and would not start. Called Good Sam and was told 90 min wait for a jump:E, so I had my mother come by and try a jump no go. I gave up at that time and headed home since we live nearby. Barely pull into the driveway and the driver says he's there 25 minutes after the call. Drop mom and daughter off and driver was waiting for me (5 min). Towed the truck to my mechanic.I've never had to have a car towed before and it hurt my feelings to see it behind the tow truck. Overall I was very happy with the service and follow up calls by Good Sam. Happy I had them and my renewal is up on th 27th. What I did not know was that it is my responsibility to call and let Good Sam know if it needs to be towed as the call initally came as a jump, so they will cover the tow. We'll see what the mechanic says tomorrow.

RE: Pismo Beach to Bakersfield

Another vote for 101 North to 46 East. The only grade here is the Cuesta grade and after that flat road. What part of Bakersfield are you headed to?

RE: Bacon grease

I get an empty can of soda and take the lid off with a can opener and drain the grease into can. Don't use it for anything else.

RE: Teaching wife to tow a trailer

DH and I share duties on towing, however, gas stations still indimidate me and my backing up can use a little work. As long as he is patient with me I don't mind multiple attempts. I was forced to learn on our first trip ever when he threw out his back. Got us back home and safe. Trailer in storage albeit parked cockeyed but within the lines.

RE: Nissan Frontier V6

We towed 3K pound jet ski's and the Xterra did fine. Same chassis/engine/transmission. Unfortunately the rear suspension is a weak point on my X. Thanks to Wills I found out about the tranny issue. I'm still under warranty and will be ditching the X in 2 years.

RE: Getting out of purchase due to over weight for truck

Too bad the dealership and salesman is getting chastised now only because you avoided doing your research til after the ink was dry. Arm yourselves with knowledge before the purchase and don't let emotion get in the way while making the purchase. Surprised that so many think there should be little to no personal responsibility when walking in anywhere to purchase something. (Not saying you specifically) Are these the same who think its alright to sue because the coffee is too hot? That they're sandwich is only 11 inches? (In this society, the most obese in the world this one really doesn't surprise me as much I guess) I hope there's a little more personal responsibility than that. I think there is personal responsibility of both ends. Most people don't know this website exits nor how to do the calculations to see if they are overweight. A lot of people trust the professionals who sell these campers to assist in the purchase most newbies don't think someone would sell them something they can't tow; unfortunately newbies don't know it is what they're truck can also carry. We were all new at one time. Some learned the hard way, others were fortunate they were not taken advantage of and the remainder knew what they were doing. Guaranteed OP will never buy another trailer without doing the calculations and all his friends will be told how to calculate it also. He has already said he screwed up and hoping the dealer will do the same when he was told his truck could handle this thing. As far as the hot coffee remark: McDonald's had a health department inspection and the coffee machine was running hot and they were informed to fix or replace, so when the lady was burned the judge made an example of them for not fixing the broken machine.

RE: Getting out of purchase due to over weight for truck

If you want out of the deal, perhaps your wife could play a part. If she calls near hysterical with her concerns about her safety and the safety of the kids or grandkids, and goes on and on about her husband's stupidity, near tears with her fear and fright ... well ... you get the idea. The dealership just might let her (and you) out of the deal because they don't want a lunatic lady mussing things up between the boys. We've used this ploy numerous times :B including once when we decided to not proceed with a purchase of a used fifth wheel from a dealer, one on which we'd made a deposit. The dealer did his best to pacify me and settle my hysterics, including refunding our deposit. It's amazing what a guy will do when a woman is ranting and raving, just to shut her up or make her go away :B First of all never put that much money down on a toy. I didn't even put that much earnest money down on my house! I'd talk to the dealer and see what he would do. If unsuccessful I would use Sue T's tactics and have your wife act like she's going to hurt you over this. Can't imagine it would be too far from the truth. If still no luck go look at used diesel dually's. Good luck and tell us how it goes for you. Do you need a commercial driver's license to tow that thing?

RE: Cleaning Fresh Water Tank

We put the 1/4 bleach for 15 gallons in the FW, but we go for a drive to let it slosh around. Open each faucet until I smell bleach and close each tap. Wait a few hours and then run until no more bleach smell.

I'd take 46, I5 , 58 into Bakersfield, 99, back on 58 to I15. I'm not a fan of that steep down hill grade into Maricopa.

Too bad this floorplan was not available when we bought. This would have been perfect, but I'm not replacing my current Jayco.

RE: California coast destinations

You are already too late for reservations most if not all state beach camping has been reserved, but still worth a look. Look for county parks or private campgrounds. Will need to know where you plan on heading to for further ideas.
