RE: why would you do that?

as others have stated, bigger showers, unlimited hot water, don't have to wipe it all dry when I'm done. But if we're on full hookups, I'd rather just use my own because I like to shower in the evening and put my nightgown on afterward.

RE: Yellowstone

you'll be lucky if you see a bear. that said, stuff inside your trailer is fine... anything edible or smelling of food outside will get you a stern warning from a camp host.

RE: Dogs at glaicer and Yellowstone

as others have said, you just adjust to the situation and work within the rules. we don't do much hiking anymore, so we take our Lhasa almost everywhere with us and do a lot of sightseeing from the jeep. Or take turns at a special sight. He gets his long walks in the campgrounds, but even there, is you're in bear or coyote/wolf or javalina country, you need to be alert to your surroundings.

RE: Absolute Route 66 sites to see and places to stay

On old 66 in AZ, Hackberry is an interesting stop. It's just one store, now, but it has all kinds of old 66 stuff.

RE: Boondocking pet dangers

we rarely let our Lhasa off his leash anywhere. once in a great while, if the campground is pretty empty, we let him off and throw his toy for him to fetch..he loves doing that. but there is always the danger of a wild animal threatening or distracting him or enticing him to a chase.

RE: What's ur favorite?

if we're catching any fish, it's fried catfish or bass or grilled bass or trout. with potato salad, garlic bread and a big jug of iced tea. otherwise, we like anything on the grill, accompanied with mac/cheese or beans or baked potatoes, or cole slaw etc etc.

RE: Glacier National Park -Closest Grocery Store -St Marys Cgrnd

better to just bring canned foods and whatever else is allowed and keep your menus simple. Browning is a little bigger than St. Mary, but not that much.

RE: Yellowstone

best to plan on 4 days if you want to take in all the major walk arounds and visitor centers (there are several, each one focused on different aspects of the park) I suggest taking a picnic lunch with you each day so you can save some money and also stop and eat when and where you feel like it.

RE: tucson to vegas

going up 93 is our choice, also. we love staying overnight up at Burro Creek Canyon campground, just south of Wikieup. Water and dump station and a nice little creek. You can get to 93 by taking I 10 west to 101, then north to 93. 303 is better IF they have finished working on the junction where it comes into I 10.

RE: Gone to the Dogs

although it seems like there are a lot of folks who don't pick up after their dogs, I think that's because they are the ones who get our attention. Actually, there are many many more who do clean up behind their pets. And keep them on leashes, and don't leave them to bark their heads off all day. And we really shouldn't let it spoil our whole day.

RE: Anybody been to Calgary Stampede ?

we went about 10 years ago. It's kind of like a big State Fair. The Rodeo is like any rodeo, but a lot of the top rodeo competitors will be there. I wasn't impressed with the chuck wagon races, but don't let that sway you. We had a 32 ft. MH then and stayed about 50 miles west in the foothills of the Rockies at Bow River Provincial Park (like our state parks) because we wanted to do some touring of the mountains, too. We drove into Calgary in our toad, parked at the University parking lot and took the metro or train to the Rodeo grounds. No charge on the parking. Don't recall if the train was free or not, but it couldn't have been costly or I would remember that. :) If you want good seats at the rodeo, you should make reservations NOW. It's a very popular rodeo. The Fair is interesting, too, if you like fairs, and we do. Have fun, wherever you decide to stay.

RE: Tucson, AZ to Bremerton, WA area: How quickly?

You won't be making the same miles per hour in the Class A that you do in a car or pickup. If you're able to drive long distances, you can probably do 6 or 7 hundred miles a day, but boy, you'll be wore out when you get there. One thing, you won't need to stop at an rv park or anywhere with a dump station or even water if you're going to do it in 2 or 3 days, so that will help on time. We did a trip from Silverdale WA to San Antonio TX in 4 days one time in order to get home for a funeral, but I wouldn't want to do that again.

RE: Cast Iron Skellet Cleanup Question

I do not ever use soap. I use HOT water and I pour it into the skillet while it is still hot. Let it sit for a few minutes then scrub it out with a plastic scrubber, rinse, wipe dry, spray with PAM, wipe excess off, and store. My skillet has a very smooth patina. And no, do not put grease into your gray tank. pour off the grease and wipe out the rest.

RE: HWY 191 North from Rock Springs, WY to Hoback Junction, WY

When we went to Henry's Lake last May (last year) they were working on the junction at Hoback Junction, but it wasn't too bad. After we rounded the corner going South, it was fine and the rest of the road, too.

RE: North Yellowstone to Custer state park, then Michigan

ditto to using the NE exit from yellowstone. Beartooth Pass going down into Red Lodge is spectacular, but Chief Joseph scenic highway is also gorgeous, so just flip a coin. If you have time for Cody, there is fishing in the lake to the west of town and a State Park campground that is pretty nice. Going across the Bighorns, you can use 14 and that takes up up to Sibley Lake and a campground with elec hookups. Or you can use 16 and that takes you past Meadow Lake and a campground. Take 90 east to highway 16 and that will take you into the town of Custer and the edge of Custer State Park. As said, the second week of August it will be packed full of motorcycle riders, so be prepared. All the campgrounds in Custer Park are very nice.

RE: Headed to the Bighorns!

This site will tell you about each forest service campground: http://www.forestcamping.com/dow/rockymtn/bigh.htm we looked at almost every campground across the bighorns on 16 and then drove up and looked at 3 or 4 on 14. Across 16 we found Sitting Bull and South Fork to be nice campgrounds. Also up by the lake (Meadow Lake?)is a campground that will hold you ok. There is a dump station up near the top of the pass. The town of Ten Sleep has an rv park on the west side. it's very shady, has full hookups and a nice owner. Bathroom is so so, but not too bad. Up off 14 highway, near Burgess Junction is Sibley Lake, with elec hookups on a lake. A few miles east is another campground that's real nice looking. And there's a third one we didn't look at that is west of Burgess Junction. There is a dump station at Burgess Junction. Do not take 14 A going up or down. It is a very tough climb or descent...very tough. If you feel you can hike it, do go and take a look at the Medicine Wheel, but you have to hike the last mile and it's uphill. There is a bathroom at the top. If you're handicapped, they let you drive up there. Bon Voyage.

RE: Looking for Camping just outside Seattle area

There's a Seattle Tacoma KOA listed. It's a little south and east of SEA TAC airport and it looks decent in my Google Earth picture.

RE: Big Rig Diesel in West Yellowstone?

Grizzly RV Park in West Yellowstone will hold you easy but is not cheap. If you want a bargain, go south about 15 miles and stay at Henry's Lake State Park. water and elec and a dump station, at half the price of the West Yellowstone RV parks.

RE: Snake!!!

you should always look first to see if its a poisonous snake or not. I never kill a non poisonous snake as they eat mice, etc. but a viper is another story. I wouldn't kill one if it was out away from campgrounds, but in the campground, it's going to die.
