RE: Best Method to Protect Against Freeze?

Funny that we southerners have no clue about winterizing anything, huh? :0)
Thanks. I'm planning on draining all the water tonight.

RE: Motorhome in garage with 3 sides, no door - FREEZE?

What are you guys going to do when it gets cold? We have see -4 this year and I don't worry because the MH is full of pink stuff. Cost me about $12.00 don't understand why you just don't winterize the coach. Can't you get the pink stuff or do you use it that much durning the winter?
Yeah, we use our coaches year round down here. "Winterizing" them would
be for about 4 days worth of cold. Hardly worth doing. :0)

RE: Best Method to Protect Against Freeze?

For people who have never had to winterize, any tips on draining the water heater?

RE: Motorhome in garage with 3 sides, no door - FREEZE?

You must be on the south side somewhere, because they are warning us that we may
be in for some 14 degree weather up here in Spring. I am going to drain all of the
water out of mine tonight. I don't have much in there, but what little there is, I
don't want freezing. That is my only precaution. It is all I have.

RE: Does anyone tow a Miata?

Just pick it up and put it in one of the bays. :) Seriously, have any of you seen a "Banshee"? They drop a small block Ford V8 in a Miata, kinda like a miniature COBRA.
I have seen those.
I have the insane desire to put an SRT-4 4 cylinder turbo engine in it.
236/260 hp/tq to the wheels would be a lot of fun and still fit under the
hood quite well. Also won't upset that delicate 50/50 balance. :0)

Mine is on the port side of the engine, under the dog house.

RE: Does anyone tow a Miata?

Arch, you have begun my quest for towing the Miata behind us on our little, short
excursions and for that I thank you much.
I will be ordering the stuff I need to make this happen. It looks like, for once,
I did something right in picking up a little Miata. It should tow behind quite well.
I am looking forward to that.

RE: Does anyone tow a Miata?

Well, hopefully someone makes a hitch for it. That would be just awesome. I'll admit,
I always gave people who drove them, hell. However, now that I have bought a pretty
nice example of one, I must admit, it is a blast to drive. Making a right hand corner
with 1/4 turn of the wheel is pretty cool. I really enjoy it.
I owned a Triumph Spitfire a number of years ago. Great fun to drive. Miserable
with breakdowns. The Miata is the best of both worlds. With AC even.
Peaches&cream, how do you tow it? Where did you get the towbar?

RE: Chinese Motorhomes ?

I hope for eveyones sake, if they do start building them, that they are better than everything else they have sent over here.
But, probably not going to make much difference anyways seeing as how China & Russa own most near everything anyhow.
Going to be a lot of pople have a hard time adjusting to a bowl of rice everyday.

It's a good thing I like rice. I think this is the direction we are
headed. Way to go government.

Does anyone tow a Miata?

I bought a Miata in preparation for purchasing our coach. I figure it is
very light, very small which = easy to tow. Plus, when we get to where
we are going, we have great mileage, easy to maneuver and goes topless!
Now...I have to figure out how to make it work. Has anyone else done this?

RE: You can't lay a plasma tv on it's side?

Don't lay them on their side while they are IN THE BOX!! People will step on them,
use them for tables... all that. THAT is the reason you don't want them to be put
on their side. Nothing else.

RE: 1996 F53 460 V8 EFI

How do you know it is running hot? Are you taking the gauge's word for it? Have
you been able to document the actual engine temperature? I have a laser, touchless
temperature sensor. Looks like a gun. It was cheap too. I use it to monitor my
brakes when I stop. If all wheels are pretty much equal, I know I don't have any
issues with dragging brakes or anything.
You can use something like this to check the water temperature of the engine. If it
isn't running hot, and you don't like where the gauge is sitting, you can adjust
the gauge with a resistor. Or you can just know that it is running within limits.
I'll echo the sentiment of putting a 192 degree thermostat back in there.

RE: How to change brake fluid myself

Just did it on my 1995 F53.
I thought it was going to be the toughest job we had to do on Sunday, but it turned
out to be the easiest. As outlined before, siphon out the old fluid and fill the
reservoir with new fluid. Then, with another person helping, pump the brakes up and
let the old fluid out at each bleeder valve. It was easy to tell when the new fluid
reached the caliper. It went from almost black to pretty much clear.
I haven't driven it yet, but moving it back into position I could already tell
a huge difference.
Of course, a month or so ago I think I boiled the fluid so the brakes have been
horrible since then.
Do it. It was easy...
I did have to buy a turkey baster/battery fill syringe kind of thing to put the
new fluid in the reservoir. I couldn't figure out any other way to get to it.
http://wadeandceejay.blogspot.com for all the stuff we just did to her.

RE: Is this workhorse brake issue a deal breaker...??

What I find interesting is the amount of people on this and other forums, that do not own a W20-22 coach, that are experts on what the rest of us should own. The stats still show that MOST Workhorse owners have not have a brake problem. Obviously there are some owners that do not like their Workhorse chassis, just like there are some owners that have negative things to say about ANY coach. All you have to do is read the various topics and you will see that all coaches have their problems, as well as have happy and unhappy owners.
As many have already posted on this topic, they have had thousands of trouble free miles with their WH. Maybe it is because of better maintenance, different driving techniques, more usage of their coach, or whatever. No one can say, with any accuracy, why some brakes fail and some do not. I live in one of the most humid areas of the country, right on the coast, and have had zero brake problems.
You sound like me defending the Ford 6.0 liter diesel. Then I blew my
head gaskets (which is a massive problem with this engine) and being
4,000 miles out of warranty, Ford basically told me to get bent. Time
will tell.

RE: Is this workhorse brake issue a deal breaker...??

Our dealer e-mailed me after my note to him regarding our concerns and he has sent the VIN # on to his service manager asking him to research all recalls on this particular RV and whether they have been repaired and when. If he complies with this information we will go ahead. Thanks to all for your help.
The brake design seems to be flawed...if I owned one I would take the calipers to a machine shop and have stainless steel pistons made to fit and put the issue behind me.
THIS!!
Had I known more about this, I might have searched out a smoking deal on
a Workhorse chassis and just included this option in the price and had it
all done at once. Darn.

RE: A question about motorhome For Sale on ebay.

caymann wrote that ebay protects the buyer on all kinds of purchases. That has not been my experience. I ended up with a non-functioning camera which neither the seller nor eBay would remedy. First and last time I used the site. Although a sweeping generalization, I consider eBay to be the last place I would look to buy anything.
I'm on the other end of that spectrum.
I got burned a couple of times for fairly small amounts, but everything
else I have bought from there. I have about $8,000 worth of camera gear,
all bought on eBay. Pretty much everything I have bought in recent years
was purchased on eBay. I didn't really even realize it until I had a
friend who kept asking, "where did you get that? What about that?" After
a few answers of "eBay" I started naming everything I had bought...
Weird. I buy stuff on the internet. I never imagined that day would come.

RE: A question about motorhome For Sale on ebay.

Bought ours on eBay. Flew up and drove it home.
10,000 is not the final sale price. Someone is selling a motorhome and willing to
take what the market will bring, thus the "no reserve." It will sell for what it
is worth, very likely.
