RE: 2WD vs 4WD in Snow

Thanks guys. It has been really helpful. Although 2WD is capable it seems like its worth having the 4WD for insurance of "getting stuck" conditions.
Thanks Again, much appreciated.

2WD vs 4WD in Snow

Hi,
I am close to buying a RAM 2500 which is a RWD. Living in Ontario with normally 6 months of snow obviously a 4WD will handle better. I am 3 years from retirement and will soon be spending winters down south. So, question if I may, is the 2500 RWD to poweful drive for snow conditions? are there people on this forum who drive RWD in the snow?
thanks

RE: Differences between RAM2500 and RAM3500

Thats interesting guys as up here in Canada the difference in price between a 2500 and 3500 can run around $20,000 just for a spring pack and badges :S

Differences between RAM2500 and RAM3500

Anybody know the big difference items between the 2 over the past several years.
Apart from towing Capacity and being heavier it seems the engine, transmissions, final drive are all the same options.
Is the difference in the frame only or am I making this too simple.

RE: Dodge/Chrysler enthusiasts, here's a link to the 5 year plan

Hmmm...I think I'm going to be seriously tempted to buy a new 2010 Ram, but if it is up for a total redesign in 2012, what kind of improvements are they going to make? Myabe I should wait, I hear the 2010 is real nice truck, so if they improve on it, that means?
Why not wait for the 2016 model?
I could be dead by then...:S

RE: ??? About Dodge Mega Cab 3500 DRW

don why do you say 5.9L from early 07, or get an 09 6.7L. Am I missing something? Are there problems with the 07 6.7L?
Mainly because the 07 early 08 6.7's have had a lot more issues than the 09's. Personally I have an 07 6.7L and it has been back to the shop several times for emission problems and I only have about 6000 miles on it. It appears that the latest flash (AQ) I think may have helped tremendously. BY all reports the late 08 and 09 models seem to have the emission issues ironed out. If you do not want to bother with the emission equipment and don't mind sacrificing the 6 speed auto the early 07 5.9L is arguably the best of the breed. Live and learn :R
Thanks

RE: ??? About Dodge Mega Cab 3500 DRW

Yes, they are rated lower. Primarily I believe due to the extra weight of the mega cab and the increased passenger capacity. There are lots of folks around who are towing heavy with no issues. As I remember they have the same GCWR as the quad cab at 23,500 pounds. If you are buying a used anyway, get the 5.9L from early 07, or get an 09 6.7L

RE: Ford Superduty's Price

We have been paying that in Canada all the time.Typical diesel cost is $7000 and the auto runs about $2000,plenty of takers up here ,you 'll get used to it .
Just curious. I am about to buy a truck in Ontario and haven't bought one for ages. Any idea how much I can knock the price down?

Planning phase

OK. Probably the question has been asked a 1000 times. I am 58 and have my own house. I am a Mechanical Technician and Manager by trade, live in Ontario Canada.
In the next 2 years I am looking at full timing i.e. South in the Winter, North in the Summer. I think I will need to work to pay the rent, gas, food etc. but have never worked by having to move from job to job. Are jobs, getting / earning money straight forward? How does one go about it i.e. Canadian and working in a different state in the states.
Are there books to read, psychiarists to see ? :-)

RE: water heater starting problems

I had the same problem with my water heater. There is a diode that regulates the current or something like that. It is a metal looking tube with wires coming out of each end and is covered in plastic. My service guy told me to remove the diode and plug the connector back in. Sure enough it worked fine. I still havent replaced the diode. No problems yet. This also happened to a buddy I camp with. Same problem. He has an 09 and I have an 08 so these things wear out pretty quick. You don't by chance have a Coachman do ya?
Thats good to know. No, I have a 09 Jayco Travel Trailer but a common Attwood water heater.
Thanks Again

RE: water heater starting problems

I have tiny wire brushes, "burnishing strips," etc. made for the purpose - I'd have to see what you're facing, but try simply removing and re-connecting it several times, then retry lighting before doing anything else - By ALL means, watch this video
Thats great. Many Thanks

RE: water heater starting problems

dielectric grease is not a conductor - I don't really think it needs grease even if that seems to work - I'd just clean it "carefully" and thoroughly and see where you are then
our front furnace stopped working this weekend - I just removed the plug and plugged it back on the circuit board - worked for the rest of the trip - I'll clean it a bit better something this week
Thanks. How do you clean? Do you use a solvent?

water heater starting problems

Hi,
i have an electronic ignition, attwood water heater. When on LP, the water heater will not start. My neighbour has advised me to remove the connectors and apply dielectric grease. Is this okay? What happens if dielectric grease gets across the adjacent track on the PCB.
Thanks

RE: Rodents ~ Bounce Sheets

Yeah, I could drink a few beers and mark my own tires but mice aren't afraid of me but fox in the area gets their attention.
I wonder if the fox stuff would work on mothers-in-law? LOL
Do you realize that if you re-arrange the letters in mother-in-law you get Woman hitler :)

Rodents ~ Bounce Sheets

I read somewhere that Bounce sheets inside the trailer helps to prevent rodents. will they last all winter? Should they be scented or unscented? One article said it had to be the unscented type.

RE: How to tell if you're running low on propane

I have no idea what type of RV you are using or how it's equipped but the easiest way to handle Propane monitoring is with a trailer (5th wheel or travel trailer, you have two propane bottles with an automatic switching regulator. When one tank is empty it automatically switches to the second tank and signals that it has done so. this allows you to just glance at it the next morning and you can tell that you are working on the second of two tanks. At that time you remove the empty tank, switch the indicator lever to point at the tank that is now in use and take the empty to the LP dealer to be filled again. Using this system there should NEVER be a time you would run out of LP unless you just don't care enough to check the site glass.
Good luck skip
Jeeez. We had a really cold night and ran out of propane on one cylinder in the middle of the night. I have an automatic changeover. I had the lever pointing to the tank in use. how does it automatically changeover? I had the back up tank nozzle closed. If I had it open would it have automatically switched over? Its a bit nippy at 4am, -5C with only underwear on. :o
