RE: energy saving cooking

Hi,
I hate burning propane--so I tried this today.
I put two eggs (in the shell) inside the four cup drip coffee pot.
I filled it with water, then poured the water into the reservoir.
Then I made coffee and waited 25 minutes.
End result was two nicely hard cooked eggs.
The coffee pot initially uses about 530 watts for seven minutes. Then it cycles once every three minutes for 13 seconds.
I know that 15 minutes was not enough time. I suspect I'll try 20 minutes next time to try to get a nicely soft boiled egg.
A bit spend thrifty there. Daughter, in Red Rock sprayed Pam on a flat stone that had been sitting in the sun all morning.
It took about 10 minutes. Four if you wanted sunny side up. The eggs were on sale t the Commissary in Tucson. total cost about 12cents. :)

RE: Memorial Day

All, in my family that served are now gone, except a Cousin and I.
Dad and Uncle never fully recovered from WWII. Dad lost a Cousin 7 years ago that still carried shrapnel from the Battle of the Bulge, Uncle that served three tours in Nam died in 07. Cousin a newly minted Sgt was hit by a RPG in the Ashau.
Everyone of them that survived the Wars carried the scars and ultimately they contributed their deaths.
To all the Families of those gone to secure the field for us, God Bless you.
To all those that served and are still serving Semper Fi, Hoorah, Hooyah, Oorah.

RE: Catamount

Catamount, mountain lion, cougar, puma, panther, painter are regional names for a big cat (Puma concolor) that ranges from sub-Arctic to the tip of South America.
Size varies with location in the range, tending to smaller in the tropics where they tend to eat smaller prey. Males 110 to 220 pounds, females 65 to 150 pounds. If the largest male shot in the U.S. was close to 300 pounds, a 150-175 female sounds possible to me.
All black coloring is in the folklore, but not documented by naturalists.
The jaguar (Panthera onca) frequently has an all black coloring (sometimes still spotted but subtly in shades of black). The males are on the average larger than Puma, the females on the average larger but less so. The jaguar is larger mainly where the two cats overlap and compete, in the tropics and subtropics.
Jaguars sighting are recorded in modern times in the U.S. Southwest (causing a concern that a border fence with Mexico may contribute to extinction of some populations). Fossil findings show the jaguar more extensive in N. America in the last Ice Age, but not necessarily as far east as Alabama. We also had Smilodon in North America in the Ice Age, but nowhere now.
They would make for some real adventures while picking blackberries.
Not able to sleep tonight. No pain medication.
The moon has the lawn and woods lit up like Saturday night at a drive in. Lots of Whipoorwills singing or calling tonight. I guess they might survive around here even with the cats everyone dumps out. Guess the owls and coyotes get them. They falcon that has been hanging around for so long might have departed. Monday he was moving from the trees to right of the house out to the huge cedar. I came out as he was about to hit a crow on the ground. He sw me and went back up into the tree. The crow was about as big as he was. He later caught something down by the stream as I came onto the porch. He departed across the road and I haven't seen him since. Haven't heard the coyotes, in several days. The turkeys roosted opposite the house in the trees, on the hill two night running. Gone tonight though. The deer are finding lots of food somewhere else, I guess. Haven't seen one, in now, three weeks. Plenty of crows for company though and they are welcome. They like white grubs and I hope ticks.

Anyone use it or something similar to insulate the overhead in the front cap of a MH or know someone that does it?

RE: Stuck with Rude Neighbors Argh...

They are possibly hoping you will ask them to turn it down so they can tell you off. Who knows. Tell the Camp Host or Rangers. He won't appreciate being disturbed late because of them. It is tough for me not to confront people doing things to us. It is not as satisfying as beating the bully but let the One responsible for their Guests take care of it.

RE: Pets in the coach

I have an English Bulldog (53lbs. of love) . How do I bock him from getting to the dash of the MH if we have to leave him inside while we are gone/ (eg out to dinner or sightseeing) not all places let dogs in and I do not want to leave him in the car. Iknow we have lots of pet people out there... Thanks for the advise JB
We have a friend that RVs from Fla that has a black and white one.
he cam back to the coach to see the lights on and the generator running.
We told them they better not leave the keys handy. He might just decide to go on his own.
They're like kids but more so. Some are stearn training them. I don't like that but that is the way many go. They respond to treats and direction but it has to be done over and over. When they are in you life close like this they are family. They do get hurt feelings and do love us and show affection.
Our faithful friend was our Daughter's. He is now mature enough that he picks up on what to do and not on his own. He won't dream of leaving our side and is about to break my neck by crowding through the door when w go in or out. Got to to correct that.
Other than that I would have to ask my Daughter. She's now got to young rascals that are trying to break her in.

Catamount

I've been reading May/June issue of Grit. There is an article on the increasing sightings of Mountain Lions.
It has now been around 60 years since I heard Mountain Lions, in the wild. I never saw them. They crying of a child and then a woman. i vaguely remember the sound. In the 70s and early 80s I had one track me twice, perhaps the same cat just north of the Alabama line, on a farm. The Owner was childhood friend of Dad's in Mid Tn. There was/is pieces of an old trace through the area. No doubt it once continued on to join the Natchez, in Alabama. Can't go there now Son In Law leases it out to high dollar Hunter interest from the big city.
The article states that females get to about 100 lbs.
I was visiting a neighbor several weeks ago. We were talking about bear sighting and so forth. he went into another room and brought back a cast. Asked if I knew what it was. I wrongly indentified it. He said that three years ago a female cougar and cub was sighted just several hundred yards above us on the ridge. The TWRA made the cast. Biologist said it was a female of between 150 and 175 lbs. Wildlife Officer said they constantly patrol their area and it is usually huge.
No telling where the cats are now. Someone anxious to brag he shot a cougar got them or they are still among the ridges this side of the river but who knows where. A female mountain lion of 150 to 175 lbs?
Perhaps it is what Grand Ma and Uncles and Mom and others called a Panther: a black jaguar. There are no black Mountain Lions? I've never seen a wild one. I would dearly love to hear one scream again, around here, with me near the house with rifle, at hand. Don't want to shoot it just hear it and see it. Wife's Uncle has seen some, in Arizona when mining Agate. There is something pleasing knowing there is still the wild out there. Too bad all the traffic and lights dominate most of the areas we live in. I had the money I would have one of the hundred thousand acre ranches for sale in Cowboys and Indians etc. May not get to see one but perhaps a bear might wonder though again.

RE: Seems like they all do this

Be sure to check out the in dash GPS before you buy it. I paid a lot of money for a built in unit in my wife's Mercedes and it is a terrible unit. It has very little detail on the screen, it's very hard to use, and it almost constantly has errors in its routing. I can't believe Mercedes even puts this unit in their cars. A friend has a Lexus and the unit she got was a hundred times better than what Mercedes had. When we're taking a long trip in my wife's car I take the Magellan GPS and don't use the built on one.
But it will get you to a funeral home without the address. :)

RE: Claiming a first come campsite

Well, we disconnect the toad and back in or pull in the MH. That pretty much says it is occupied. Drive off in the car and register or do whatever.
I've seen more conflicts than I care to at campgrounds by people claiming sites days ahead or the evening before.
Trying to enjoy these last years. Got no time for nonsense.

Tractors again

A while back I asked everyone about Compact Tractors.
Just about nailed it down to a Mahindra, however it is spelled.
Reason is seems to be the only one near local with service. The Deere has a couple, not to far away but more dinero.
One of the things I've been trying to figure into the equation is mowing. We have a zero turn but only 50 inches. Saw several real nice machines in the ten thousand range but....
If a 4x4 Compact tractor with bucket and back hoe will also serve to finish mow a little over three acres I might be able to kill two birds with one stone if I can get a good suspended seat for this back. We have about a half acre in fairly steep. hill to the house. Before I fall off a turnip wagon and go the wrong route I thought I would ask you all if you finish mow with a belly mower on your tractors involving some hill????

RE: Car Enthusiasts ....

I like several of their models. Hard for me to keep the latest ones in order.
If I could find one I would get one of the few year old V10s.
We almost bought an 11. It had an auto manual or whatever it was called. Only used the clutch to start off. Heads up display is great as are their top end sound systems. I like their leather, or use to, and style. Not too hung up on a twin turbo and valley of snakes with the intakes where the exhaust is where we are accustomed to the exhaust to being and exhaust on top. As long as there is warranty on one of these things it is great. We ended up with a C63, a brute and maybe not as refined. Thinking maybe a BMW next time. Liked what we saw first time but...
Four hundred horsepower isn't that much but it is good. Torque of 450 is good. Numbers are deceptive. Some put out more and in the smaller series perform great. Don't have to drive like NASCAR to appreciate response and effortless cruising.

Fell into the stupid pit myself. Knew better. Cut some brush and piled it up to burn didn't think it lit and threw in a little two cycle mix.
Whoosh and my eyebrows and hair on arms disappeared and some minor 1st degree, like sunburn, on hands and arms, face. I wouldn't have let my son or wife or anyone else do it in my presence. Always good to have Someone around to keep you from falling into the stupid pit by yourself.

RE: Traveling Through Fort Worth and others

Generally Dope Peddlers don't want to be noticed so they don't speed a whole lot. There are a lot of other profiles that work better.
Can't run faster than the crowd in front of you.
Ft Worth turning to go south on I Whatever is a real nightmare.
Traffic through the area was sometimes fast but our biggest problem was people cutting us off and weaving in the lanes next to us, on cell phones etc. and running like heck in the left lanes and then all of them trying to get in the right lane to go south or get off at work etc.
I would have liked to go to the Rodeo, a huge affair but missed it because of time constraints last year. Did stay at Cowtown RV Park, not remarkable but good. Several Folks were there with show cattle and horses and Kids and Grand kids going to compete. Seems like it take forever to get out of Dallas Ft Worth, or Austin or anywhere. It's a hundred miles to Town or the store for a lot of Folks.
Kinds hard to keep from going to sleep when the road is arrow straight and light or no traffic to the horizon in many parts with the cruise on the horizon not getting any closer.

RE: Edge grill guard

Is the grill guard really going to be heavy enough to protect the grill if you hit a deer, or will you just have more cost to replace the guard also? I've never hit a deer, I thought the guards were only good for mounting driving lights on.
Bill
There's great many that are built to take it.
The one from Roadmaster is the most practical but won't do as much protecting as I had hoped.

Several mentioned here work just fine. Look for weight of the batteries. The heavier deep cycles have heavier/thicker plates.
They cycle many times more and last longer. imo
