Little 4L65 question

Hey all i have a 2006 VMAX silverado...6.0L 4L65 and 4.10. At certain times when driving, mostly under a light load..ie travelling uphill during my 2-3 shift, my tranny will in a sense "let go" and race for a moment...most times it is like 200rpm, the other day is raced up to about 4,000rpm. i dont have a clue what is going on doesnt happen on any other shifts, 2-3 only, not in tow haul mode. Doesnt happen all the time, it is intermittent, no check engine light on either. I dont tow with this any more, i got a dmax about 2 and half months ago, but i still enjoy driving this around...truck has 105K on it, and it has been maintained like an aircraft, tranny has been serviced 4-5 times in the 105K its got on it... RE: Toyhauler market?

I second the place in fresno, they have a new place called "toyhaulers unlimited" or "toyhaulers direct" super large selection, with tons of weekend warriors, i dont know how you feel about the WW. but the affiliation is with funcars, but they have a fully dedicated toyhauler repo place... Mike

RE: 2007 Chev 1500 6L pulling an '86 29' Sovereign?

A 1500 with a 6 l engine IS a 3/4 ton truck... It is a 1500HD and is the exact same truck as a 2500 (non HD) truck. Stupid GM marketing as some years it is called a 2500 other years a 1500HD. Having said that you have a heavy trailer there and probably should go to the 2500HD There is truth to that statement, but some of it is incorrect information...i used to drive a legit half ton pickup, that had a 6.0L engine in it, it had 6 lugs, and it rode on half ton gear...they are out there you just have to see one to believe it. Little cooper tire rant

So i had cooper ATR discoverer tires on my half ton pickup...i just replaced them with cooper discoverer MT... I got 98,000 miles out of the ATR's!!!!!!! Truck had 3108 miles on it, when i bought them per the computer at my tire shop, and i just replaced them at 101,521, put them on in september of 2006, i bought the truck in june of 2006... I am amazed with that right there, i ran my factory tires until 3K, then i upgraded to the coopers (heavier tire) and i have 101.5K on the truck now.... I put LT305's on my diesel with the cooper MT's LT265's on my half ton with MT's Mike

RE: Chipping your engine?

Sorry for being so sensitive but I have 50,000 miles on my 6.0, zero problems, fair gas mileage and pulls with plenty of power. I don't appreciate it being called junk and a toilet. I could say plenty about Dodge and Chevy but I don't see anything good coming from demeaning another persons choice of tow vehicles. well said, it never feels nice to hear of a significant investment in those terms...my father has a 2003 6.0L with not a single problem, 125K on it...but i would not chip it, my neighbor with a 2007 6.0 chipped it and at 29K miles did a turbo and head studs...which required the cab to be taken off, i wouldnt want to have my cab taken off...Mike

RE: Gear Vendors

Hey terry let me chime in here for a bit. I pulled a fifth wheel for a few years with a half ton, my sig still shows that rig, it was a good experience for me and i was happy with how things handled. On shorter trips i was very comfortable, and i assume you are using this setup for shorter trips. I have since moved over to the darkside of diesel ownership, and also got a bigger fifth wheel, and i will tell you honestly it gets very old hearing about how overloaded you are and how terrible your going to pull that trailer, but i will speak from true RV.NET forum experience, bigger trucks are amazing, the best thing for me is that i never have to manually move the shifter to a lower gear, i put it in drive and it does the rest for me. That being said, i contemplated installing a GV unit on my half ton chevy that i still have, and the engine just doesnt make enough low end torque to relly justify that kind of expense. I had 4.10 gears, which was nice, but i think if you wanted to save some money and possible headache you could go and install some lower gears, like 410, 430 or 456, you will notice a difference pulling your trailer, and it wont break the bank like installing a GV unit. For the time being, i think you could also just enjoy your fifth wheel and truck as is, and wait for that glorious day when you have a wait to start light on your dash like i did, and then just put it in drive and set it and forget it, theoretically you will be 3500 dollars richer, but 45,000 dollars poorer at the same time... RE: 96-97 powerstrokes

96-97 powerstrokes

Im looking for a 96-97 powerstroke, f350 4wd crew long bed to put to work on the ranch, it will be a personal ranch truck for me to use, what is a fair price to pay for a truck of this vintage with lower miles, maybe around 100-120K...i have a new dmax but i do not want to use it on the ranch, i like the looks of that body style a lot as well. mike

RE: My girlfriend hates me...

I wasnt trying to start a war here about weights, im happy i bought what i bought, i looked into it significantly. I hate duallys i think they are ugly rigs, thats my opinion, didnt want a dually, couldnt get a 35 srw in the trim i wanted. I bought the 2500HD and im happy i did. I bought the montany 3000rk because thats my favorite floorplan. and my girlfriends floorplan, i hate tripple and quad slides, i like 2 slides, just my preferance, i had a rear door on my springdale, i like center doors. I liked it i bought it. Im not as concerned as some here that my trailer maybe more then the advertised weight rating then my pickup, but thats what i wanted and thats what i got, call me ignorant, but ive been on this forum for a long time being criticized for pulling a fifth with a half ton, so im not worried about my little diesel not getting this job done, in a safe manner. Sorry i brought all this grief upon the people who have viewed this post, i wont post about it again. Thanks Mike

RE: My girlfriend hates me...

ive spent enough this year, but ive done my best to try and buy things while this economy is crap, ive been blessed to have a good job in the agricultural industry and my gf is a nurse, so we are doing ok, but this has been a great year to buy things like campers and airplanes and boats because some of the tax incentives... mike

RE: My girlfriend hates me...

Oh come on guys she isnt that mad, haha i'll be bringing it home soon, im going to go in and do a real hard PDI on it on monday afternoon, im pretty sure i know what to look for, and the hitch will be done hopefully by then, ive got bags to install and a compressor to mount tomorrow, im pretty pumped, and shes happy too. I am excited because it will be my first superglide experience, so im looking to see how that works out. i think the truck will do well with it, ive been doing the fifth wheel thing for a while with a half ton, so we will see what the differences are, and shes out with her parents showing them the truck (getting the 500 miles) on it for me tonight. Im as happy about this purchase as i was about buying my house at the beginning of the year...haha and it damn near cost me as much ouch, but im not taking any of it with me when i go so theres that. I will try and get some pics of this setup on here for you guys. mike

RE: My girlfriend hates me...

I have my proirities in line, dont worry about that...we both have stellar jobs, and she knows i'll treat her right. The truck sits about 2" higher in the front, and im running 305/70/17 on it with 10" wide procomp rims. its got a nice look to it. mike

RE: 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton gas mileage differences

Back in the day, I towed large tent trailer loaded with provisions for 5 people with a l975 Ford Courier, 4-cyl, 4-sp manual. I towed great, couldn't tell the tent trailer was back there until I hit Tollhouse freeway section (7 miles 6% grade) of 168 on the way to Shaver Lake, CA. Even then, I would put it in 1st gear, and grab a cold one and enjoy the 20-25-mph climb. I did that for 6 yrs. No problem. Just change oil/trans fluid, rear end, and radiator coolant. I would go with the best overall mpg rating. Ahh the good ol four lane...love that hill and have seen many trucks burnt up on the side of the road...your from my neck of the woods... mike

RE: Is my truck a lemon or is it behaving typically

Ive got 97K on a 2006 chevy p/u with only a defecteve wheel bearing being replaced under warranty at around 88K miles. Very happy with it, i think you just got a truck built on a monday sounds like to me, i may be doing u joints at 100K ive got a little clunk from u-joint every once in a while. No A/C probs or anything of that sort to think of. Mike
