RE: Does anyone have any good bologna (baloney) recipes?

1/2 slice of garlic bologna, big slice of onion, swiss or other cheese, mustard, mayo etc
Fry the balony until nearly burned, melt cheese on top, fry the onion until soft.
Put on a large pretzel or kaiser bun add the spices you like, get a beer and some german potato salad and eat like a bavarian king.
Are you sure your not from Philly??? I grew up on that camping with my parents!!! They used to caramelize onions in the skillet and then fry the Bologna in the same pan,, then throw a slice of swiss on it,,, Heap of onions,Bologna, cheese on a almost burnt bun!!!! With YELLOW mustard!!! And a Jewish pickle on the side!!!! (from a pickle barrel)...Oh yeah,, in the pine barrens of Jersy!!!

RE: SPRAY ON RUST REMOVER

I posted a thread last week about rust, a few posters recommended OSPHO, I have found it at Amazon and am patiently awaiting its arrival. Will post results soon.. I also have a small boat trailer that has seen salt water. rust is heavy but not to bad.
I did buy a small sand blaster from Harbor Freight and it worked extremely well and fast on the fenders...

RE: Smokers - Electric or Charcoal?

I have a Char Broil off set smoker (wood), and I have a Brinkman Gourmet electric bullet smoker. I also use my Weber Gold Kettle to smoke.
Off set is to big and uses to much wood to take camping, but I can smoke large pieces of beef or pork on it, also I can vary the temperature easily.
The bullet smoker works great!! Plug it in and it delivers 250 degrees for as long as I need, cooking area is fairly small (two racks of ribs, maybe three if i use a rack), hard to get consistent smoke,,so I added a "Smoke Daddy"cold smoke generator.. Works great, I have done tri-tip,chicken,ribs and salmon on it and I like it!! Lite and small enough to take camping with us.
Weber kettle works great as a smoker, I bought an indirect coal rack set and I can smoke at 250-300 degrees for two or more hours with out having to add more coals. Kettle is to bulky to take camping but we did buy a "Smokey Joe" to keep in the trailer,,, works good for the two of us...
Depending on your budget will depend on what you purchase, treager makes great electric pellet units that are light enough to take camping,,do some research and attend some bbq compititions and ask around,,, Good luck Happy Smoking!!!

RE: Looking at trucks

I have an 04 F150SCREW 4x4, 72000 miles,, I to have a spark plug concern, But I also have the rear end issue with it,, BUT as of today it has been flawless, Runs great, tows great, plenty of power,,yeah it sounds like a diesel but everything I have read about it all say just drive it,, and I do,, It is comfortable, ok on gas, the only issue is, I should have gotten a larger bed,, but thats my preference,,
Still a good ol truck that owes me nothing!! Gotta love Fords durability!!!
(And I have ALWAYS owned GMCs and Chevy's) Sold a '90 GMC Jimmy 4x4 that was a tank!! nothing could stop it, I ran over 125000 miles on it and sold it to a friend!! Sold a '73 GMC 3/4ton 4x4 long bed lift kit huge tires and roll bar to get the Jimmy........Two elcamino's prior to that!!!
KEEP THE FORD!!!

RE: F - 150 FYI for 7 pin charging pin

...When you buy a truck to tow, get the maximum tow package why would they not either install them or tell me about them...
Because not everyone with a truck wants or needs the charge line hot and it is a potential battery drain.
Not really a potential battery drain on a Ford. It is still ONLY hot with the engine running. When the ignition switch is off, and the engine is not running, the charge line is not hot.
If the battery drains with the engine runnng. You have other more serious issues.
Do agree, Not every one wants it hot, and not every one with a truck towes.
Ford does tell you, its in your Owners manual, it explains how to install what port to plug it into and how to wire your brake control.

RE: F150 automatic tranny gear selection

I have a 2004-5.4 towing about the same,,sticker says 4500, Only thing I do is if it seems to search for a gear,,4-3 then back to 4 then down to three and i am climbing, I with take it off OD, and let it do its thing,, I have a Scan Gauge and keep my eye on trans temp.. If it starts getting hot I back off, but the computer seems to control it ok so I let it go,, not able to lock it into any gear other than Low.
If you are concerned, look into a shift kit witch will let you shift manually.. But I have not seen the need yet...

RE: Driving non stop

We are getting a new Class C motor home this weekend. Got the approval call today. We will put it to great use. With that being said, it got me wondering as to non stop driving. With it being a Class C, my wife won't have any issues driving it, especially on the highway. How far have you gone with switching off drivers and not stopping for the night? We would love to go out west as far as we could, but with only having a two week period. It's not really feasible to go too far out. I've driven between South Carolina and California 3 times. Each time taking me 3 days of 12 hr driving. So week to just drive out there and back is a bummer. But if we could get it done in half the time, then not as bad. Would go all the way to California, but maybe to the Rockies or Yellowstone.
Has anyone done the trade off driving to get somewhere in a shorter period? How far did you go?
In theory, you should be able to run 55mph and make 2500 miles in 45 hours,, if you need fuel add for that,, Most reliable trucking companies dispatch at 45mph... Check "mover guide for reasonable arrival times!!! good luck and god speed!!!
PS,, if a lawyer can point out driver fatigue then you have a Liability issue there. more at stake than just cutting it short!!!

RE: Driving non stop

Run it!!! I have run 16 hours at 65 miles an hours,, long haul but doable!! If you wanna go then go,, You and another driver should be able to run at least two tanks of fuel a run before driver change,, red Bull and Soda,, Snapple bottle and you keep a rolling!!! you have a bed, rotate when you get tired,, when you get fuel you get food,, GO!!! A four hour nap and your good for ten more..
If you are doing it for a living it will catch up with you,,, But if you NEED to be somewhere,,, GET THERE!!!

RE: Rust!! How to deal with it??

Thanks for the great responses, I do want to buy a sand blaster and give it a go.
Oshpo sounds like a good product. I will blast what I can get at and use the Oshpo and slop it on. If I can get a few years use before the rust comes back I will be happy.
Rust is not to bad,, still has paint on the fenders,, nothing rusted through, so I am sure a bit of elbow grease and a fresh rattle can paint job will get me out crabbing in November...

RE: Rust!! How to deal with it??

From someone who has had a painted boat trailer used to launch in salt water - get a galvanized trailer and not worry anymore.
MTNHNTR, I know and I really appreciate the great advice, But I am looking at maybe $200 in materials,,, I am retired and Dungeness crab season starts back up in November, so my thought is,,,,, a project,, a reason to buy more tools,, so time is not to much of an issue,,, rust is heavy but surface only,,, Drive train is a no brainer,,less than $100,,, A new Galv trailer is $500 minimum,,, I hope to make this work for less than the price of a Harbor Freight cheap trailer...
I once took on a job repainting a wrought Iron fence as a kid,,, allot of sanding and wire wheeling,,, but it looked good and I got paid,,, I know this thing will hold all of my crap,,, the amount of effort is what I am gauging it on...
I got a killer deal on this whole set up,, so I am trying to keep it real...
back of my mind is saying,,, Just buy a new trailer,,,, but wallet is saying,,, You can do it....

RE: Campfires...good in moderation

Ha,Ha,, I have to admit a stupid action by myself,,,"yes the eye brows grew back",
We ( just the wife and I) were camping at the coast (wet and foggy sometimes at night), purchased wood from the camp host,(wet), I said "no biggie I have a gallon of white fuel".
Well I used a "red Solo cup", third time I splashed a little fuel on the fire I withdrew the cup and it had melted to my thumb and forefinger and was a very nice dancing little flame,, I went to fling it off of my hand and it landed right next to the white fuel can,,,Instant flame out of the pour spout,,, I quickly sprung into action and kicked the gallon can away from the fire and trailer and it made a nice flame trail into a sand dune about fifteen feet from us,,,, I quickly started kicking sand on it as the fire grew,,,, By the grace of god, the can landed on its side with the spout a little uphill, so with enough sand I put the fire out and singed my eye brows,, I walked back to the smoldering pathetic fire and suggested we go inside and get out of the cold,,, She agreed!!
To this day when I start a fire she reminds me to keep the white fuel away!!
Oh,, and I did serve over thirty years as a professional fireman,,, and I do tell that story often......

Rust!! How to deal with it??

Just bought a complete crabbing set up from a friend, 15' inflatable, traps, gps, depth finder,30 hp motor, the whole deal,, Only issue I have is the trailer he gave me is Very rusted from salt water,, nothing rusted through, but heavily rusted,,,, My question is,,,, Sand Blast or wire wheel?
KDS makes a paint they claim you can paint over rust,, and Rustoleum has Rust Stop paint..
Common sense is to remove old rust,,, but has any body delt with heavy rust and what is the fastest most economical solution??
HBF has a portable blaster for $40,,, but the KDS paint is really expensive,,,
If I could just paint over it and forget it,, then thats the easiest, But easiest might just be a waste of time???
Oh yeah, I have purchased new bearing and race sets, along with a new wiring and LED light set, tires and wheels are on order..
I even need to go to DMV to get a new plate,,, rusted.
I plan to tow it behind my trailer, about 120 miles one way to the coast. All I will be putting on the trailer is crab pots and a storage bin,, not much more than 500 lbs at the most,, I will haul boat and motor in the bed of the pick up..
