RE: the road less traveled between Alabama and Kentucky

Both 231 and 431 are divided highways and will be fine up through north Alabama and through Tn.

Got 'em here too. Unlike most bugs, if I knew what they liked to eat I'd feed them till spring like I do the birds......

RE: Service Station Information

Can't help you with the book. My Next Exit indicates diesel where available, but I can suggest and recommend an aux tank by either RDS or Transferflow. You won't worry about the low fuel light anymore. My next truck will have one within a few days of picking it up.....

RE: More Fuel

I've got an RDS too. Easy install. I think my next truck will have the transferflow underbed tank though. Either way, you'll love it...

RE: What did you do your first year as Fulltimers?

Moved too often. Next time, we hit the center of a state and stay a month or more and explore from that base. S-L-O-W, down will be the mantra of the day....

RE: 04 Duramax no power

When was the last time you replaced the fuel filter? If it's been awhile, I'd go ahead and replace it. If that doesn't take care of the problem, and I bet it does, THEN I'd take it to a shop. I've had the same issue and replacing the filter solved the problem.

I've done both also. Once you've done each a few times, they are both easy in their own respective ways.

RE: going to NM need some help

We stayed at Pecos River RV park in Carlsbad. It wasn't the best park, but it wasn't the worst either. If in the area again, I'd stay there again. Tons to do in the area....

RE: welded vs screwed joints in body

I doubt if there is an aircraft or spacecraft that uses mechanical fasteners anymore. Space age adhesives are even used on automobile assembly lines. The new Jaguars are made with "space-age adhesives and rivet bonding into a streamlined process that supports volume manufacturing of highest possible strength". The new Boeing 777 and Dreamliner extensively use structural adhesives. No certified welders needed, no corrosion, no moisture damage and extremely strong under load.
I think the fact that they use rivets still with the bonding glues, is merely some insurance against failure of the adhesives...likely not really needed! Right now with current technology, it's likely a 50/50 split as to which is "best"!
The Boeing 777 most certainly DOES have welded structural components, as well as structural adhesives and rivets. Welding is not an obsolete process for structural components, in any industry, yet. If the processes are done properly, they are almost indestructible, regardless of the application. If they are not done properly, they can **** up your weekend regardless of their application. I'll guarantee you I can weld an aluminum structural joint that will withstand the stresses of a normal lifespan of either an aeronautic structure or of a full timer RV. And those joints will meet or exceed the lifespan of "current" adhesives or epoxies.

RE: RGV rving

We tried it. Parked and set up the rig with much trepidation. Drove over to the KOA and found a site there. Not a fan of KOA's but it was the much better choice! Our rig was parked for about an hour to an hour and a half. Shortest parking that we did on our year long adventure...

X3 on Bayou Segnette. It's a breeze to get back to the quarter from the west bank, and there's good parking close to the Harrah's Casino off the river walk.

RE: Tallahassee to I 65 exit #168 by 231 and 80

I would take 27 north from Tallahassee to 84 east to 231 north. I'd stop at Deer Run Rv Park in Troy and then scoot on up 231 to Montgomery to 65. If you get a little tired during that run, there are a couple decent parks off 65 around Athens that you could overnight before heading on in to Music City....

RE: MS Excel and Word 2007

I'm an old dood who went back to school at a local technical college back in August. I have to take a micro computer course that uses Office 2007. I've used pretty much every version before retiring a couple years ago. I'm diggin' 2007, but then I also love Open Office. If you invest a little time, you'll find lots of little slickern' snot things in all of them...

RE: This week at the RV show

I like the idea of the vinyl framed insulated glass windows also. They have come into their own in the stick and brick house market over the last 5 or 6 years and should be durable enough for the RV market now too.

RE: Passing thru Needles

Google "campgrounds near needles calif" and you'll get 7 or 8! With ratings...
Of course, if any of the RV.net family happen to have stayed at some of those 7 or 8, he might happen to get a more indepth report....
