RE: 2008 F150 - what can I tow

I'd say something like a TT in the 21-22 foot range? Loaded weight not more than 3,500 or 4,000 maybe?

RE: Toyo tires & RMX shocks from Les Schwab

Good Choice...
I don't have the 3/4 ton but I have had the Toyo Open COuntry A\T's on my F-150 since the day I brought it home from the dealer (new). I have 46k on the original set of tires and it looks like they will go 60 easy.
Excellent tire, good for wet, slushy and light snow road conditions that I have to deal with. Its been great towing with them as well.

RE: new versus used

When we were in the market the price on the used TT's we considered was not much lower than the price we paid for a new Jayco. Things may be different now but we went with new and we found a great unit for a good price with a 2 year warranty.

RE: Weight police...

I'm awaiting delivery of my new trailer and upon reading some recent posts I need some clarification to be sure I'm within my capacities, Here are my specifics-2009 Dodge Ram 4x4 crew cab w/20" and 3.55 and Hemi. Trailer is Lance 1880.
Here are the weights:
Truck Info:
GVWR= 6800
payload-1380
curb wt-5420 3100-f/2320-r
GAWR= 3900 f/r
GCWR=12000
Max trailer=6400
Trailer Info:
Weight =3300 dry, 4000 wet (allow 700 for personal and 30 gal water)
tongue weight-340dry/ 500wet (allowance for propane and 2 batteries)
cc-1900
GVWR=5200
Assuming 600 lbs for occupants/dogs plus 200 lbs for fuel.
I do not know which numbers are important in determining if I will be within my max capacities with above information? I'm not sure what numbers are combined and which are not. I will probably get a w/d hitch from the dealer at delivery. Can anyone point out any potential problems issues? Thanks a lot. Merry Xmas....
Don't think you are going to have any problems... enjoy!

RE: 500% Increase in DMV fees

"NOT everyone comming here illegally is going to work..."
Not everyone here legally is going to work either... same, same... they don't pay taxes but we who do support them. The economic slow down is actually good news for you liberal bashers tho... fewer illegals are coming as our conditions are not as attractive as they once were.

RE: Where do i sell stock wheels?

I sold my stock tires and rims to the tire store where I got new ones. I didn't get much for them. They often have customers who want an extra set of cheap rims for snow tires.

RE: A poll - What CAI do you have?

There are many different threads here about Cold Air Intakes that go into detail about the pluses, minuses, the whys and why nots of putting one on your truck. I’ve read every one of them going back as far as I can search and have made up my mind that I want one for my new ride. I just haven’t decided which brand.
So I’d like to propose a simple pole to name what you have on your truck. I’m looking for gas burner help primarily but will appreciate responses from the diesel crowd too. If you’ve tried different brands let me know which one you liked best. And finally, briefly note what “sold” you on the CAI you have.
I look forward to your responses. Thanks!
Gas burner.
AFE was my choice.
I have a shop nearby that specializes in custom truck work. They have done quality work on my truck so I trust them. They sell stuff that they have experience with and their customers like. They recommended AFE and I went with it... have not been disappointed.
And I second the comment about intake and exhaust... if going with less restrictive intake with bigger pipe then a larger, less restrictive, bigger exhaust (at least CAT back) is in order.

RE: Water pump won't prime for winterizing....AGAIN!

you might try pouring some antifreeze down the hose to the pump first then stick the hose in the antifreeze jug.
Milo
Ditto
Good idea to keep valves open on faucets.
Mess is solved by having a "fit to hose" funnel that you can use for this purpose every year... that pink stuff is sticky so you don't want it to leak all over. Stick funnel in hose and pour just a little in at a time till your hose is almost full then real quick like shove the hose into the a/f jug and switch on the pump and in about 10 secinds all the lines should have a/f in them and it should be coming out of the faucets.

RE: Vents open or closed for storage?

We have some rain in the Pacific Northwest... sometimes some snow here on the wet side of the mountains. I have found that cracking the roof vents such that some exchange with the outside is possible and using Dry-Z-Air liberally inside the TT with the cabinet doors open, is about the best combination of battling mold but not letting in too much humid air.

RE: What is this valve for?

my last rv had a setup like that except the line and valve were on the suction side of the pump. The line was to be used to winterize the water system by sticking into a container with winterizing fluid. The suction of the pump when it ran would draw fluid from the container and the fluid would then mix with water from the pump suction and be discharged to the trailer water lines to fill them with winterizing fluid.
You sure you have the pump inlet (suction) and outlet (discharge) label right in your diagram :h
I think this is the answer.

RE: Am i too big?

Not impossible for me to tell... that's too much trailer for that S-10.
Simplest solution is to find yourself a 1/2 ton with a V-8 in it... problem solved.

RE: Edge programmers

Well, I am going to disagree with the OP.
I have pretty much the same setup... Mine is an '06, F-150, 5.4L and I tow about 6,000 pounds of TT.
I have the Edge Evolution programmer and I keep it in the tow program because I like the shift points so well. This programmer enhances the towing capabilities of the F-150. There is no question that this has been a positive add-on for me. And it does a decent job in the MPG department when doing the daily drive. I get 17mpg in summer and 16 in winter for my commute. When I get out on longer highway trips MPG goes into the 18's. "I like it alot."
I do have a bigger intake and exhaust system which also helps considerably.

RE: Where are you guys putting your gennys when in use?

Another "sits in the bed of the truck" here...
The TT power cord just reaches it without having to remove anything.
I have our yamy Monster Cabled to a cleat and the "corner post" but I am not sure if that would save it from a determined and experienced thief

RE: Opinions, please, on TV and TT combos

You have a good tow vehicle and the 5.4L is a great engine.
All thngs considered you will be much happier with choice #2.
Choice #1 would work pretty well if you had the 2010 version of your pickup.

RE: Well, my dealer just closed!!

and i have an ongoing warranty claim on a door. now i have to drive 30+miles to the next town to get it fixed, when there is a FR dealer only less than 10miles away. somehow the claim got transfered over to the next town. i just hope they dont take long. im heading there on monday!!! guess i just needed to vent!! thanks for listening!!
I would hazard a guess that yours is quite a common occurrance the last 2 years or so.
In our example we got kind of lucky in that our local (2 miles down road) dealer was WAY too high on RV prices (I wonder if that had an effect on their future?) and we purchased from a "suburban" dealer instead... 100 miles away.
The local dealer folded within months of our purchase. No problem, right? I can get any warranty work accomplished at the dealer we purchased from even though they are 100 miles away.
Turns out I did need some warranty work on the door and lock set. Fortunately I did not need to take the TT in for the work but stopped by there a few times while travelimng for my day job to drop off and pick up parts. Within 2 months of the warranty expiring (2 year warranty) that dealer went belly up.
Whew, that was close.

RE: Decided on the Ford!!!

Wife and I have looked at them all and decided our new tow vehicle will be a 2010 Ford XLT,5.4,6spd,3.73 ratio, Max Tow Pkg,brake controller, and all the goodies.It even has tailer sway control and a back up camera. Does this sound like an adequate vehicle to pull my new 28C HiLo. The trailer will be about 6000lbs loaded(we travel light)GVWR is 7000lbs. Listed hitch weight is 850lbs. I willl be using an Equalizer WDH. GVWR on the truck is 7675lbs. and the Max Loaded Trailer Weight Rating per the Ford literature is 9600lbs. Just the wife and I in the truck @283lbs.total. I think I should be OK,but it doesn't hurt to ask the experts and those of you who have a lot of experience! I would be greatful for all replies! Thank You! Road Dog
Sounds like a perfect match.
Good Choice!
