RE: High Mileage RV - Afraid to go long distance

I have a '92 Chev 1/2 ton that has 195,000 on it, my toy. Would not hesitate to drive it anywhere, original motor and tranny. We had an '01 Chev 1 ton in the shop on Monday with 313,000 miles, needed a fuel pump. Customer pulls a 5th wheel work trailer loaded 20,000 lbs over the highest point in TX no problems. I traded in a older Chev with over 400,000 miles on it still running strong. Powertrains if properly cared for will last many more miles than we suspect. Like on poster said load up your tool box and you won't need them. Have a great trip.

RE: New Tires @ 6 Years?

If you do not have a TPMS I think I would invest in one of those before new tires or a least get one if buying a new set. Blowouts usually only happen from low pressure or a side wall hit. A TPMS would alert you if the tire was overheating because the tire pressure would rise. Don't know the answer on how long a tire will last. I replaced my 8/03 tires last Sept as the coach had sit for 2 years before I purchased it and that is bad on tires. I just know that if you take good care of the inflation a tire will last much longer than one that has been neglected.

RE: 2003 Monaco Dynasty fire

Hey Carl; The fix was pretty inexpensive but Norcold would not sell me the kit. They would rather pay for a new cooling unit or someones MH.

RE: 2003 Monaco Dynasty fire

I did the same thing on mine tried to get them to sell me a recall unit but they refused. Mine caught on fire on Thanksgiving and they replaced the cooling unit but I had to pay the labor.

RE: GFI breaker

When we first got our '04 Windsor in 2006 we had the same problem with a GFI in the panel in the bedroom. The tech at Beaudry said there was nothing wrong with it. At my insistence I told him it was a "lazy" breaker and he should replace it. After some discussion he relented. Since that time it has never tripped again(knocking on wood). I would suggest replacing it.
If you have a surge protector why unplug. We live in the west and have a lot of lightning storms and have never had a problem. We have the progressive unit.

RE: going to NM need some help

Coming to Carlsbad in the end of March will be about one of the best times of the year to visit. The weather should be fine. Maybe some wind but the temps will be about perfect. I have lived here for 36 years and would not trade it for anywhere. The KOA north of town has the best ratings. But the Carlsbad RV Park in town is also a nice park. There is a lot to do in the area. Tops is the Carlsbad Caverns. Sitting Bull Falls is a neat place to go for a day trip. The Queens area is a nice side trip. The Guadalupe Mountains National Park is also a must see. In town we have the Living Desert State Park. We also have Lake Carlsbad downtown. We have 2 golf courses. This is a great place to spend a few days. If you have any questions let me know.

RE: CORRECTION: Ballpark cost on 16" (not 16.5) tires?

What size shoes does Lucy wear. ie 235/80R 16 or what? Look on the sidewall and I will give you a closer than a ballpark figure.

RE: ATC problems

You have most likely got the residue from regular diesel fuel that has broken loose in the tank from using USLD. You need to keep spare filters as it could occur again as the tank cleans out.

RE: National Tropical

Most likely the batteries are toast. If it has been in storage for 5 years and even with a charger on the water levels would have to be maintained and most likely were not. This coach will need just as much if not more preventive maintenance as a coach that has been used regularly. I'm not trying to be cute but you have basically asked these questions in 2 other topics. If you are so inclined to purchase this coach pay a RV shop to check it out and see what you will need. None of us have looked at this coach so everything we post is based on pure speculation. I for one would buy the newer coach you talked about in another post. Everything in it is a least 3 years newer.

RE: Replace shocks on time or mileage

Inspect the shocks for leaks. If leaking replace them.

RE: 2008 Monaco Lapalma vs 2005 National Tropical

IMHO the '08 is the way to go. My reason's;
1. The 05 has been sitting for 5 years basically unused.
2. The tires are 5-6 years old and are about timed out even with low miles.
3. Seals and gasket tend to dry out and cause leaks when not used.
4. The hot water heater if sitting with water for a long period of could be starting to rust.
5. National is no longer in busines so no factory support. Even though Monaco is gone the new Monaco has parts and techs available for parts.

RE: Power Gear Slide Out Gearbox Failure

I bought a Power Gear slide motor assembly last year from Northwest RV Supply. Here is the link; www.nwrvsupply.com
You may want to check and see if something was caught to cause it to break like that. My motor went bad.

RE: MSRP DISCOUNT--NEED REAL ADVICE

The only way you can get a new vehicle registered is to have to MSO assigned. I would also venture to say you will need a bill of sale to verify the price you paid. I know in NM, TX, AZ, CO, CA, OK and LA the above applies. I have not tried to register vehicles in other states. The MSO can be assigned to another dealer and be reassigned but once it is assigned to an individual it then has to be registered to that individual as an individual cannot reassign a MSO.

RE: MSRP DISCOUNT--NEED REAL ADVICE

I am a new car dealer. If you pay me cash or a cashiers check you can have the MSO and never register it. However you will find out most states require it be registered within 30 days or you will pay a penalty. If you finance it I am going to register it showing a lien to whomever is the finance source is so I can get my money.

RE: MSRP DISCOUNT--NEED REAL ADVICE

I have been a car dealer for 30 years. You are typical of the customer who wants the best of both worlds. If you get 25% off you will not get top wholesale for yours. I don't know which model you have but the wholesale NADA Value for a Journey is between 88K for a M-34SH and 114K for the 39K. Let me know which model you have and I will give you your value. As one poster said take what you are willing to pay for the new one and what you want for yours and offer it. Then there has to be some give and take on both sides. One thing to remember most states give a credit for the trade-in for tax calculation purposes. ie; A 80000 trade-in will save you 4800 on taxes if you have a tax rate of 6%.

RE: We're off to buy our 'new' rig!!

With the Sig make sure there is a owners manual. If not make them supply one before delivery. You will find most answers to operational questions will be answered in the manual. I would make the dealer spend as much time as possible to aquaint you with the various operations systems. Then before you leave the area test everyting for proper operation. You are buying one of the most sophisticated MH's available. Let us know how your new home is after a few days ownership.

If you have the gear motor number go to norhwest rv supply and see if they have one. Will be a lot cheaper than Power Gear.

RE: My use of a tow dolly

I own a Demco KarKaddy SS. We have owned it for 6 years. We have towed 6 or 7 different vehicles on it to include SUV's. The time to load and hook up is no longer than a person hooking up a tow bar type situation. I have only had to unhook the dolly in 3 places I have stayed. I have a pair of knee pads that I use to protect my knees. My chains has hooks that slip into the slots the mgf puts in the frames on the vehicles. The only maintenace on the dolly is lubes and 2 new ties. I now own a Chev Traverse and investigated a tow bar and brake system and it would cost over 3000.00 so I will pass.

RE: Service Recommendations

I agree with all of the previous posts, I think they pretty well covered the chassis, but here are a few I would suggest. Replace the fresh water filters, should be two in the rear bay. If you have a drinking water faucet in the kitchen sink replace that filter. Check the hot water heater and drain it if it has an anode rod it probably needs replacing also. Enjoy your new toy.
