RE: 460 head problem.

Got about 250 miles today. Manifold bolt blew out at about 50.
I left it...Big exhaust leak..loud. But pointed away from the plug wire.
I figure, maybe the large patch will last a while.. As it has so far...
Lining up shops for estimates in AZ...

RE: 460 head problem.

There are a number or things that can be done. A good weldor with a mig can weld the corner back on.( Oh-just noticed you lost the corner) Be aware that if you need to do any drilling or tapping, the water jacket is just 1/4 inch under what you can see so don't go too deep. For exhaust leaks, the best stuff is Tabor's hot exhaust cement. It goes on as a liquid then turns to a glass like substance. Many folks who have used it leave it permanently its that good, but it needs to be ordered direct from the company. I'm not sure with your rig if you can get the head off, but a handy way to take the engine out through the front is the Steck engine out. A plate attaches to the front of the engine and then you attach your hoist to that. With your rig that may not be an option but works great for class C's. Many folks feel an exhaust leak is harmless, but it can frequently lead to what you are experiencing. Thorley or Banks headers is a good choice if your going to keep the rig.
Great info. Thank you.
Just patched it up... AGAIN. Found some 2400 degree stuff at the local auto parts store... I put that on..will let that cure..then hit it with the muffler stuff...
As Soon I can stay in one place, and close to a city... I may try that Tabor stuff.
Or maybe just have it repaired..not sure. Though I am not keeping this rig..
Yea, Readytoroll..what a joke. maybe I should have just flown and stayed at hotels? Maybe

460 head problem.

About 600 miles ago, I heard a loud exhaust leak, all of the sudden.
After inspecting it, a chunk of the head at the left rear exhaust port fell off somewhere in TN. I think it had a leak there to begin with.Since I have been piling on the epoxy...But every 200 miles or so, It will burn off, and burn the plug wire off.
I am trying to get to Phoenix..where I or I can have a shop repair it...
Been doing some searching this morning too...
So ..
1. Does anyone know of any quick fixes?
2. Later, Can the head be repaire by filling with weld...and installing headers?
3. What is invloved with head replacement? Can you get the head off where the engine sits?
I have a f53 w/ 460 . 1995 holiday rambler.
Thank you

RE: "Westward, Ho!" But... not on I-40?

Hmmmmm.. I'm confused which way to go now.. Just read this thread...
I'm in TN now..Heading to phoenix area first...was going through new orleans then out I10...
But we have been considering a more direct route... Too cold still around here... So re-thinking about heading straight out I40...Faster more direct route.
I don't know what to do...
How does the hills of I40 compare to the hills in I81 south bound through Virgina, from DC?

RE: Wet Inside Windshield

I think it may have been the cooking we did. We are in TN now, and it was 27 degrees last night. I left a window cracked a little.. No moisture build up.
Though,I feel we are wasting money out the window, it's better than a moisture problem I guess...
I have fans everywhere in the rig... I'l be running them when we are cooking, bathing, etc... from now on.

RE: NY to AZ

Thanks folks... I'd like to here about those other roads if anyone has any info..
And Ron Butler.. Maybe I'm off base here...But the the "Blue Roads " Is what charged me the $70 to here... Though there was a bunch of bridges and tunnels... One I remember was $16...So when you say Blue roads..That means interstates?
I know there is an option on my GPS to choose " no toll roads " ... should I set it to that?

RE: Wiring Tail light Converter ?

On my previous toad, Chevy Tracker, and current toad, PT Cruiser, I added a light socket and wired the motorhome to it. It is safer than using your toad's wiring. You don't have to worry about messing up the computer system in the toad.
I went to NAPA and found a socket to fit.
So you unplug and plug in the light sockets each time you use the toad?
And ok on the diaodes... I have a set of magnet lights... Just seemed like a hassle to use them...
I'll check around local for the diaodes tomorrow... maybe a light socket too...:B
Thanks for the help people

RE: Wiring Tail light Converter ?

Must I use the diodes to wire "as is " ?
I think I had it wired like that today... and it was like the 4 ways where on , with only a directional on...
Trying to do this on the cheap...

Wiring Tail light Converter ?

Have a 95 holiday rambler that has a 7 pin ,round type, at the hitch... utilizing the same pin for directional and stop...Wiring up a 98 honda civic as a dinghy and after several hours, realized I need some kind of converter. It has amber directionals and red stop lights.. Been searching the web...
Is a 2 TO 3 wire converter the same as a 3 to 2 converter? I grabbed a 3 to 2 from U haul, tonight, but not I'm doubting it can be used in reverse? Are they bi-directional?
Do I need one that specifically say 2 to 3 wire?
Leaving next week..so I'm under the gun...
Thank you...

RE: NY to AZ

Ok, 81-40-30-20-10 seems to be the route...
How about some touristy stuff? All we have is graceland and panning for some diamonds somewhere...:)
We have as long as we need or want to get to the southwest...
what did people like?
Maybe there is nothing to see? Besides the countryside?

RE: NY to AZ

Cool...
I guess 81 to 40 etc.. Is good...That rock slide doesn't come into play that way...
How about 95 to 20 ?
And Hills are ok ( I think) The Rv feels like it has a little power...Though downshifting alot I'd bet..
