RE: Poza Rica Bypass?

My Guia Roji (2008) shows the Tuxpam leg as 180/130d and Alamo on hwy 127. Its been a few years (about 5) since I was that way but the northern leg over to Tuxpam was a real turkey trail and it brings you in the back side of Tuxpan on a dirt road. The more direct route is through Alamo. Sorry, cant comment on any construction there.
The Poza Rica by pass (east side of PR) has been there for 5 or 6 years and is the way to go. PR can get a little conjested for RV's.

RE: Comparing maps and GPS etc.

Google maps are at http://maps.google.com/
Yes you have to be able to go on line to get them but they can then be printed or saved in hard disk to call-up on your computer when required. They come in handy when going through cities where you dont have a city map and want a finer scale than Guia Roji atlas. G-maps are another tool, not the only one to use. I find them useful.

Hidalgo TX - Reynosa crossing

Can anyone tell me how this crossing is for fifth wheels and trailers. Two years ago we walked across and got our paper work then used the Pharr crossing to drive over. At the time I could not see how one accessed the new Banjercito at Reynossa as there didnt seem to be an easy way to get to the building/parking area. I have looked at the latest google earth images but am still confused. (that happens to me a lot lately). Would appreciate comments from anyone who has used the crossing.

RE: Bug Repellent

You may also see brown paper bags hanging in an open window or door that have been puffed up to hold their shape. Theory is that it discourages wasps and hornets from entering the building and setting up shop. They see the bag and figure someone has beat them to it.

RE: Road Question

I have all the latest SCT maps downloaded on my computer and also have Gadwin PS. The maps still show the road(?) as a dotted green line so I am assuming it still isnt completed. Wondered if anyone had more recent info. Also wondering if anyone knows if the old road (Hwy 130) SW from Poza Rico is do-able with a fifth-wheel?? Looks like there might be a section in there that is rather hilly and twisty :)

Road Question

Can anyone tell me if the Mexico City to Tuxpam highway has been completed? Last time I was down that coast the section from Posa Rica to Huauchinango was under construction but appeared to be stopped. Any maps I can find dont indicate that it was ever completed. Comments please.

RE: Mexico City bypass

The link for the google maps shows nearly the same location as the SCT maps. Thanks. With 10 or 11 casetas I wonder how expensive its going to be!!!!

Mexico City bypass

The latest state maps from SCT here:
http://dgp.sct.gob.mx/index.php?id=440
for the states of Hidalgo and Tlaxcala show a dotted green line for a new road which looks like it could be the bypass location. Can anyone confirm this??

RE: A propane question for Canadians

Another problem with the tank exchange system is that here in Ontario many (not all) of the tanks to be exchanged are not OPD compliant and if one was to take it into the USA it would not be accepted for refill there. And I have not found any tank exchange facility that will trade 30 pounders.

RE: Visa Question

Unless things have changed in the last two years (and they may well have) a visa doesn't have to be paid for at the bank on the day of issue. The rule used to be it was OK as long as it was paid for before exiting. For example we would cross in Pharr or Brownsville and not pay for the visa at a bank until we were in Cd. Victoria a day or two later.
