RE: Boston for July 4th, Possible?

Well, I'm the one who asked the original question, and now I am really confused about going. I confess that I have never been a big fan of Boston, from hearsay evidence only, but I have an open mind. We have been to the 4th on the Capitol grounds in DC a couple of times, with grandchild, and enjoyed the experience tremendously. Anyone who can compare the two events? There are probably horror stories about DC also.

Boston for July 4th, Possible?

DW wants to go to Boston for the July 4th pops concert. Anybody done this? Will there be any campgrounds anywhere near the city, within driving distance? Too late for this year to get reservations for holiday? Any hints on logistics? We have been to western Mass., but not to city of Boston.

RE: RV Parks central California on I-5?

We overnighted at Kit Fox, near Patterson. Pleasant experience.

RE: Hwy 395 from Anahiem to Lake Tahoe

We like Zephyr Cove Campground on the Nevada side of Tahoe, especially if you are coming from the east. Of course, we go for the skiing in winter and it is easy to get to the lifts. Your plans will obviously be different. We take highway 50 from just south of Carson City; good and safe road. Boulder Creek in Lone Pine is a good stopover There is also a state park in LP which looks good, but we haven't stayed there. Very jealous of your drive up 395. We may not make it back out there any time soon.

RE: First time traveling I-95 to Fla.

Beware of constant road construction in the Jacksonville area on I 95 Just north of Jacksonville, take route 9A, which is a four lane bypass around Jax. As of a month ago, it avoids the construction on I-95. Your GPS may send you that route anyway.

RE: cross country adventure

Nice thing about RVing is that you can do a little of each. Well said. We usually have a general idea of our route at least a day or two before the next leg of our trip. I like to use the Trailer Life directory and rvparkreviews.com to look at potential campgrounds and mark them accordingly. If nothing looks good we may rarely stay in a rest area, or truck stop. We are leisurely travelers, and like to stop early, and have time to cook dinner (or eat out).

RE: Flatlander Route Question

If you are talking about the Rockies, the answer is yes. We are North Florida flatlanders and have traveled to the west coast several times. For the easiest crossing of the continental divide, we like I-40. No matter which way you go, you will have some hills. That is part of the beauty of exploring the USA.

RE: Pismo Beach Favorite

I would second the recommendation of Pismo Sands, on the upper level. But, be advised that it is a long hike to the ocean.

RE: I-95 on Christmas Day

We traveled north on Christmas Day one year as far as Virginia. Traffic was light, gas was available. The only problem we had was getting food. Finally ate a burrito at a 7-11.

RE: Theft at campgrounds

My son had a generator stolen in a California campground. Of course he should have locked it.

RE: Florida to Nevada best time to go?

We have made this trip to the NV, CA, UT area several times in the last few years. Our schedule has been a late March to first of May departure. Never had a weather problem. Our favorite route is I-10, I-12, I-10 to I-49, then catch I-20 at Shreveport. At Fort Worth, get on US-287 (good four lane road) to I-40 at Amarillo. At Kingman, AZ, US-93 will take you over Hoover Dam into Nevada. Have some recommendations for overnights if you wish, when you get closer to trip.

RE: Great Basin NP

We stayed at Whispering Elms in June. OK place with full hookups in the little town of Baker, right outside the park entrance. We almost had the place to ourselves. The campgrounds in the park are very nice (We looked at all), and were also not crowded in June. We loved the park. Didn't try the ice cream, but got a good pizza at a place in Baker. By the way, spent one night at Ramada Inn RV park in Ely. Wouldn't recommend, except you get a free Margarita in casino bar.

RE: James Island County Park, Charleston, SC

You can come in Hwy 26 to Hwy 526 at end of 526 head east on Savannah Hwy (17) to 171 (Folly Rd) and go south down to Camp Rd until it ends and then turn right on Riverland - park is right ahead on left. You can go down Folly and turn onto Central Parkway which is what our Garmin had us do. I don't recommend that way as it may have just been us as Central seemed pretty narrow and righthand turn onto Central from Folly seemed pretty tight as does the lefthand turn from Central to Riverland, but that may just be us. Our fifth wheel is 38' long so you may not have the same issue. Either way you will be in traffic and the bridge over the river on Folly is a little narrow. You may want to call the park and see if they have better directions. Do not trust your Nav system. We stayed at James Island last week. Hawkhill is correct. It is much easier to go Folly Road all the way to a right turn on Camp Rd., then to a right on Riverland, then left into the park. Don't tell anyone about this park. It is one of the best.

RE: 9A around Jasksonville FL.

Took 9A two weeks ago. Much better than straight 95 or 295. As with all cities, avoid rush hour if possible.

My wife and I loved the bike trails. Both my honor graduate boys are grown, and love all outdoor activities. By the way, how many children does retiredhsteacher have?

US Highway 76 in North Georgia

Any thoughts on driving US-76 from South Carolina through Clayton to Hiawasee, Georgia. Will be driving a 36 ft. class A gasser towing a Jeep. Thanks for input

RE: RV Friendly Train Watching Locations

For my money, you can't beat Mojave Narrows Regional Park near Victorville, CA. It is a beautiful campground and the main line of BNSF runs right by the park, with both BNSF and UP trains going over Cajon Pass. Lots of trains, all hours of day and night, and you can drive up to Cajon pass for additional scenery.

RE: Look for an "EZ in EZ out" with West of West Memphis

If you want to go that far, the Days Inn in Brinkley is adequate for an overnight. They have pull-throughs, and it is easy on and off I-40.

RE: Nice campgrounds on Jekyll Island, GA

"Bring a lot of video games and movies if the boys don't like biking or hiking or fishing." Whoa, when I saw this I couldn't help but respond. In my career, I taught over 4000 high school and college students. Sorry if I'm harsh on the people who suggested them but video games and movies make kids brain dead. They are just wasting their lives staring at a screen. .............. There are some reasonable places to eat on the island such as Dennys. We like the JI campground very much. They try to keep it country like camping used to be. Ed Whoa, I can't help but respond. Where Kennedy was married? Get a dose of real. My tongue was halfway in my cheek, but you are going to have a loooong week on Jekyll with three boys under the age of 15. By the way, there is no Denny's on Jekyll Island.
