RE: Wet passenger floor.

In Portland you are not that far from Junction City. Take it to either Oregon Motorcoach Center or Guaranty RV Service and have them check it out. Guaranty is associated with a dealership and OMC specializes in repairs and refurbishing Class A's.

RE: Another Top of the World Highway question..

We were one of the first big rigs over TOW the first part of May last year. DH and I were impressed with the scenery and we took it slow. At the time we went to Chicken they were still working on recovering Eagle from the flood so we did have a lot of traffic from the turn-off to Eagle and Chicken. While the human travellers enjoyed the trip, the fur kid was a little disgruntled. She did not enjoy the ferry ride across the Yukon and did not like not being able to see bottom when she looked out at the canyons. She recovered though. TOW was a much better drive in early May than our return through Tok and Destruction Bay area in July.

RE: Caravan or go it alone Alaska

We left from the Oregon Coast last May, but went through the Columbia River Gorge and up through Central Washington and Lake Chelan. Entered Canada at Osoyus and had a wonderful drive to Kamloops, then over to Cache Creek and on up to Dawson Creek. Between Prince George and Dawson Creek you will go through Chetwynd. If you enjoy chainsaw carving that is a must stop and explore, because there are some magnificent sculptures on display there.

Your friend can check with AKC for registered breeders. I am sure they will be able to put him on a pup within a few hundred miles.

RE: Mandalay 43A

I'm sure the bath and a half is a very nice option, and I have thought for awhile that I wanted one. Then I got to thinking--the toilet in the rear bath is a pretty fair distance from the black tank, if not that then the front toilet has a similar problem. More plumbing to foul up. Same goes for the shower and vanity sinks in both areas. DH is very happy that I have figured this out, because we have the bugs out of our '06 Intrigue and won't be trading, unless the most perfect and ideal coach in the world comes on the market at a very reasonable price. Seriously, from all I have heard, Tiffin makes a much sounder motor home than what you are looking to buy.

RE: crossing the boarder w/ dog

The health certifcate we got from our vet expired after 30 days. At the time of expiration we were in Alaska so no problem. Before starting south we inquired at the RV Park and were referred to a local vet to get a health certificate for the return trip. Puppy certificate and passports were handed over at each crossing and we had no problems.

RE: Braking system for toads

To answer the O/P -- Have not tried the M&G, but understand when you change toads you have to get new equipment. We have Air Force One on our coach and when we bought a new toad, we had the equipment removed from the toad and then installed in the new one. Very simple. We have travelled about 20,000 miles with this system and never had a problem.

RE: Help getting from Portland OR to Chicago-next week

Indystorm -- I don't know if you are still monitoring this forum, but we did drop by Oregon Motorcoach Center this afternoon while we were in Eugene and we saw a very, very nice Inspire Veranda being put into shape for a trip to Illinois. If that was your coach, be assured that the techs there are going through it with a fine tooth comb. By the way, the tile floor is wonderful. Wish mine were that color.

RE: Help getting from Portland OR to Chicago-next week

I can't help much on a route home for you this time of the year, but I would suggest that before you leave Junction City you have a reputable coach service company check that everything on the coach, mechanical, electrical and in the living area is working properly. When Country Coach reopened for a short time during the Bankruptcy proceedings, they did not bring back their senior people, so, I would have concerns about the construction process. We have a 2006 Intrigue and have put about 25,000 miles on it since 2007. Our service facility of choice for repair and for preventive maintenance has been Oregon Motorcoach Center on Airport Road in Junction City. Most of the employees there are former Country Coach techs and they know the coaches well. Not only that, they like them pretty well too.

RE: Windshield Protection for Alaska Trip

We drove much the route you are planning last summer and got only one ding in the windshield of the motor home. While we were in Whitehorse we called the mobile repair and had it filled. So far it is holding up fine, as is the one we had filled in Whitehorse on our way north.
If you are taking a toad, I would suggest you use it to go much farther north than Fairbanks. We took the Jeep to Cold Foot and a little north. The "haul road" is not a super road for a motor home.

RE: Alaska on my mind

Lynne Schaff -- We took Top of the World Highway in mid May, right after it opened and it was a wonderful drive. Chicken is still thawing out that early in the year, but we spent a very pleasant afternoon and evening there.

RE: Some general Alaska questions:

Our Alaska trip last summer was 2-1/2 months. We made reservations for an RV park in Homer before we left as we had a date certain for other plans we had in that area and also made advance reservations to take the MH and Jeep on the Alaska Ferry to Juneau and return to Haines. Other than those two set date items we played it by ear and had no problems finding places to camp for a night or a week. Our cell phone plan is with Verizon and before we entered Canada we added Canada to our plan. The cost was an extra $20.00 per month and was well worth it. Our friends who live in Juneau use AT&T, but I do not know much about their coverage in other areas of Alaska and Canada. We did not make reservations for Denali as we travel with a furry companion and for us to leave her all day for a bus trip was out of the question. We did, however, take a day trip to the park visitors center and got some wonderful pictures of Mt. Denali or McKinley, whichever name you lean toward. We spent a few days in Whitehorse and took a day trip to Skagway in the Jeep. Also, instead of going North through Destruction Bay we went to Dawson City and took the ferry across the Yukon and did the Top of the World Highway to Chicken. All in all it was a very, very nice trip. Be sure to find time to go to Valdez as it is one of the prettier drives in Alaska we think.

RE: Self-guided or Caravan???????

I quickly scanned most of the replies, but I will put in my preference for going alone. One thing you might want to make sure you look into before leaving the lower 48, is having your cell phone plan adjusted to include Canada. Canadian charges for cell phones can be frightening.

RE: Monaco question?

While not on the West Coast there are a number of companies in Junction City that do remodel work on coach interiors. Because of the layoffs in the industry many of the techs that worked for Monaco and Country Coach are now working in those facilities. I can recommend Oregon Motorcoach Center for quality work from personal experience.

RE: Oregon residents.

I don't know what the people of Oregon (meaning full time residents) do when they leave the state, but I do know that our "fur kid" has become accustomed to the dog biscuits that are offered by the attendant. We spend a significant amount of time in Oregon and having fuel pumped for us is a luxury. After a while you become accustomed to the stations who have attendants who are courteous and who also attempt to fill your tank in the manner you prefer. Many times we have been asked if we want the tank topped off.

RE: RV Caravans - Any Bad Ones?

We planned our own trip and with the help of Milepost and a few other guide books managed to have a wonderful two and a half month vacation through Canada to Alaska. Because we were on our own there was a lot of flexibility and that was good for us. The day we left Fairbanks for Denali and the Anchorage area it was really raining. Not good for seeing anything of Denali. We altered our plans a little, stayed the night in Wasilla and headed for Valdez. On our way back through the Anchorage area, we were treated to the perfect sunny day and acutally got great pictures of Mt. McKinley or Mt. Denali as they call it now. We also included a trip to Juneau and return by ferry. We met some verky nice and helpful people on our trip. I don't think we missed much cammaraderie by traveling on our own.

RE: Montana LLC sales tax excemtion

We know people who have their MH registered to a Montana LLC. They were questioned at the Washington/BC border upon returning from Alaska, but the customs agent did not request any proof of the paperwork or drivers license information. Just passports.

RE: Halibut in Alaska

We stayed at an RV park across from Fisherman's Resort just off the float plane landing lake in Homer. Not on the spit, a small park. We booked our charter on Fisherman's Resort boats. Good boats, good captains and we were picked up in the morning at our RV and returned after fishing. That way we did not have to leave our towed parked on the spit. The RV park owners also have a fish processing facility in front of the park, so it was very convenient to have our catch frozen and shipped home.

RE: Who's driven the Alcan Hwy to Alaska?

We took the trip this year. Did TOW from Dawson City to Chicken on the trip North. We were there for 2-1/2 months. 6000 miles on the motor home and an additional 3,000 on the towed. We used our Verizon cell phones on the trip and found them to have service a majority of the time (signed up for Verizon's Canadian plan for the time we were gone). We acquired a couple of windshield chips on the trip North and had them repaired in Whitehorse before we continued (mobile repair comes right to the campground). Also had the same fellow repair the chips we acquired before returning home. We came home the Cassiar and that was well worth the drive. Our next excursion might be by water. Are contemplating taking our boat up the Inside Passage to Juneau in a year or so.
