RE: generator noise question

Take it for what it's worth but I have run my 13,500 BTU air conditioner on 15 amp service on many occasions with no issues. If there is a 15 amp breaker in the line it should protect against overheated wires but not too likely to have any issues like that. Just don't leave the water heater or fridge running on electric at the same time. Concerning the generator, do remember that they rate the DBs at a prescribed distance (like 7 feet or so) but they ALSO usually rate them with a 50% load or less so you may see higher noise if it's running harder. Just something to consider. I DOUBT if the noise from the generator would be a major issue either since others in their homes will likely ALSO have their own air conditioners going and windows mostly closed.

RE: I need a dump station The Dalles to Portland, OR

When worse comes to worse, state parks are a very good resource. All you need pay is the daily fee (not camping fee).

RE: yellowing of shower stall fiberglass floor

Paint is probably the best way to get sun damaged plastic back to it's original color. Might be a good idea to add a blind to the skylight to prevent it from happening again.

RE: Out of area warranty coverage

If you call the place you purchased the trailer they would most CERTAINLY expect you to bring it to them. However, the warranty is NOT with the sales dealer it's from the factory that built the RV so any place that sells that brand can do warranty work for you. Actually you ca have warranty work done at places that don't even HANDLE that brand but it's POSSIBLE that you may have to pay up front and get reimbursed from the manufacturer afterward. If you choose that route I'd advise that you contact the manufacturer beforehand and get authorization for the repair. IF you always had to return to the place of purchase it would take an AWFUL lot of fun out of RVing since they may spend LITTLE time near home. It would take a whole lot of the fun of that "trip to Alaska" were that the case. Good luck / Skip

RE: mice

It probably will depend on where the trailer is used/stored. I've seen mice in a number of campgrounds but never had any I KNOW of in the trailer but haven't had any get in while the trailer's in my driveway but my neighborhood is "CRAWLING" with feral cats and they hang out under my trailer to keep the birds from attacking them.

RE: Dometic Awning Strap

Put the Pawl in the position to roll the awning out and use your hands to rotate the drum until the strap comes out again. You may also be able to grab the awning side rails and pull the awning down that way to get the strap. That method will likely take two people (one on each end) Good luck / Skip

RE: Satellite Television

Need a LOT more information to be of much help. You can get systems priced from under $50.00 to a couple of thousand and they ALL get the same programing. I have a $50.00 system with a home made dish stand and a used dish ($10.00). It takes me about 15 minutes to set it up. The other end of the scale has zero set up time so you're paying for the conveniences. Good luck / Skip

RE: New to Trailers --- Height Question

I'm sure SOME may be that low but the ONLY way to know is with a tape measure. DO NOT believe brochures for any specification that actually matters. You are liable to be very disappointed if you do. Every brochure has a disclaimer about specifications saying they are not responsible for changes with no notice. To BEGIN a search for a low height look at ground clearance. If the trailer is built on TOP of it's axles it will have a higher roof so you'll need to look at models built AROUND the axles (with a wheel well) to have a chance.

RE: Can I use this on my roof ?

If you have an EPDM (rubber) roof then you CERTAINLY don't want to use any product that contains mineral spirits or petroleum distillates. Those products can penetrate the membrane and dissolve the glue holding the membrane to the roof substrate. If you have a vinyl roof they can take just about anything you put on them but in EITHER case sealing is not necessary. Good luck / Skip

RE: Expectations for 6 volt batteries

Fully charged batteries are 12.6 to 12.7 volts. What you were reading at 13.4 was either with the charger running OR it was surface charge.

RE: As quiet as a Prius..

It has always amazed me how many buy a truck that is relatively quiet and spend a lot of money making it obnoxiously loud. :R

RE: Toilet Question

Hand sprayer would be handy if you don't have good water pressure so your bowl doesn't get a good flush with the foot or hand pedal. Not much purpose otherwise.

RE: Propane Detector

If you have a safety device that is not trustworthy you are better off without it. That way you won't DEPEND on it warning you of anything so you may remain more vigilant yourself. If it's in place then you'd be better off assuming it's warning is real and check for LP leaks or other sources of hydrocarbons (off gassing battery, dog with flatulance, gas leak etc).

RE: Newb question about fresh water tank

Why not fill the FW tank before you leave? Most would want the convenience of using the restroom facilities while traveling and that takes water. Running with a full tank MAY cost you an additional buck or two per tank for fuel use but that's SO worth it for the convenience. If you don't want to travel with water and you have a source 15 feet away it won't take much hose to reach it and fill your tank when you get there and that's another option for you. Good luck with the new trailer / Skip

RE: securing an external RV cable

Why not use white cable? Should take only a minute or two to apply some white tape to the trailer and make your own decision as to how it looks there.

RE: Part Time Insurance?

You should be able to find an insurer who will cover you for a specific time period or on a monthly basis and allows you to cancel the policy when you want to. Might check out the one that's advertising that they sell insurance "by the pound". Surely they would have this option. Don't expect to save much money however since their liability would be roughly the SAME as your current carrier has only compressed into a short time frame. Probably would cost about the same amount. RE: rocky mountain national park trail ridge road

I've taken several of my trailers over the road, including my current 34 footer (about a dozen times). The grades are moderate but not steep (mostly about 6% with so0me 7% stretches and there are only a FEW tight turns (about 25 MPH speed limit and a couple of tighter ones but even the tight turns are plenty wide so no need to use more than your lane. There are regular bus service vehicles making the trip over the pass (probably a hundred or so a day) and these are some super large busses and they have no problems with it either. Good luck and enjoy the trip / Skip

RE: underbelly sealant?

Coroflex is usually the product used to enclose the underbelly but I've never seen it used to attach to the under side of the floor as insulation. Styrofoam is a much better product for insulation than a sheet of coroflex or spray on material. If your floor is getting wet I'd look for the place it's getting water from and make THAT repair instead of just trying to keep water off of the floor. Good luck / Skip

RE: Assume My Dump Valve is Closed and Won't Open !

Hay you could probably sell TICKETS to the event if you try that. Easiest fix is to find a dump station that uses a PIT to collect sewage and simply loosen the valve and allow LIQUID to drain before removing and replacing the valve. I've had to do it on the road (while traveling) before and it's not that bad a job. Just choose the dump station wisely.

RE: Illegal Towing.... Triple Towing

:h If he's towing TWO trailers, how would you consider he's TRIPPLE towing? I don't know of ANY state that allows triple towing without a commercial license or special permit. Double towing is allowed in MOST states as long as the first trailer is a 5th wheel and only a FEW states allow double towing with two conventional trailers.
