RE: Liz needs a car

Yeah preferences are definately an individual thing. I change the oil regularly in a Cobalt that my mother in law owns. Nothing about that car strikes me as anything special, and certainly wouldn't trade my wife's Neon away to get a Cobalt. No thanks.
Last cheap GM car I owned was a 97 Olds Achieva. Biggest piece of junk I think I've EVER owned! It was stricken with GM's highly publicized cooling system issues of that era.

RE: KUDOS To Chrysler!!!

It may be Fiat has decided to honor some warranty items even though they're outside of the original warranty period but it doesn't sound like good business practices for a near bankrupt company. glad they took care of you though.
Another shot in the dark by Skip. "Near bankrupt"? :h
Oh well, he is long gone and won't be back to comment. Hope Ford takes care of him when that 6.0h-no decides to fail.
To dfb, glad they took care of you. The insecure Fordies seem to want to bicker today. :W

RE: 2011 Superduty Diesel Looking Good

mpg report
from the same guy
___This engine is so strong that the TC will stay locked up all the way down to 900 RPM and Fuel cut will only disappear when you approach the 900 R level from what I was seeing. In addition, the 2011 Super will not buck or lug down to 900 RPM. It simply does not lug! I was towing a 10,000 pound load up a 4 to 6 percent grade at the 35 mph PSL in switchbacks and she was holding 1,200 RPM’s without a care in the world. The Silverado HD was having trouble and shifting around between 1,800 and 2,200. Same with the Dodge and its Cummins. The Dodge Cummins felt really crude, loud and handled very poorly when towing. The GM Duramax was simply struggling. When coming down the same grades, the Chevrolet was a handful. The Dodge was scary. The Ford was tap on the brakes and she would drop a gear and hold speed. No switches, no buttons and simply forget about what you were hauling and pay attention to the road ahead. Very impressive. And it idles at just 600 rpm too.
I'd like to know who wrote the fictional material in italics. A link to that questionable article would be nice. "The Dodge was scary"? I highly doubt that. The Dodge 6 speed auto and E brake is hard to beat for controlling loads down the grades. Maybe the clueless author didn't know how to operate it?

RE: Kicking tires waiting for my lease to expire

Sounds like the OP has a good head on his shoulders. He will likely stick with Ram.
Are you attempting to make the case that the OP will buy a Dodge because he is intelligent?:h
This could turn into another entertaining thread.
Reading words that aren't there I see. I am simply stating he knows what he wants, and has good reasons for feeling that way. I won't be baited by your attempt to quarrel.

RE: Kicking tires waiting for my lease to expire

Sounds like the OP has a good head on his shoulders. He will likely stick with Ram. No need to change what already works for him.
To the OP, let us know how much you like your next Ram truck. Without a doubt the Cummins is awesome, and the 6 speed auto with tow/haul and E brake is just as impressive at stopping as the Cummins is at going. And the new Ram HD body style is about the best looking truck out there IMO.

RE: Liz needs a car

Sorry, I can't think of many vehicles that achieve 40+ MPG that aren't hybrids or diesels. My wife's 04 5 speed Neon, which I consider an excellent fuel sipper, can only muster 38 MPGs highway hand calculated. 40+ MPG is really a sipper! And, even our lowly 04 Dodge Neon has a blue book value greater than your $2000 limit.
Also, I found a link for the gentleman who claimed to not know what Ford Festiva was.

RE: Air bag question on F150

There is absolutely nothing wrong with adding devices such as airbags or timbrens to improve stability when towing. Even a properly setup hitch can be assisted with these devices that can make your combination even more stable in all situations. I use Timbrens, and love them for their ease of installation and maintenance free operation. Airbags are nice as well, and provide adjustability for different loads. Good luck to you, and I hope you find the answers you are looking for.

RE: 2006 Chevy 1500 Crew Cab

Hello All,
This is my first time posting, but I've learned a lot from other people's posts in the past. My wife and I bought a 2006 Rockwood Roo 23SS last April and towed it with our 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.7 liter Hemi all last season. The Jeep seemed to do a good job, but after a year worth of towing it seems like its not cut out for towing. A lot of little things are starting to break on it and it only has 66,000 miles on it.
So here's my question. We're looking at upgrading to a 2006 chevy 1500 crew cab with a 5.3 liter V8 and 3.42 gears with 7000 GVWR. Do you think I'll be happy with this as my new tow vehicle? I know the longer wheelbase will be nice, but I'm a little scared about the gearing. Also does anyone know of any reliability issues with the silverados. All opinions will be greatly appreciated.
You will not be "upgrading" power wise if you purchase the 5.3L and 3.42 gears. That will not pull as well as the Hemi IMO.
Keep looking. Don't rule out a Hemi Ram or a 5.4L F150. In the GM line, I would look for a 6.0L v8. JMHO.

RE: GM is spending $$$

Traditionally pick-up truck manufacturers Ford, GMC/Chevy and Dodge have been very conservative in regards to radical changes in design. Remember when Ford came out with the redesigned all new 2004 F150? Critics really were divided on the body style, but it sold wildly! A real gamble, it could have just as easily killed sales.
You must be very young, or just have a poor memory. Back in 1993 Dodge turned the pickup truck scene on its ear with the all new 1994 Ram. It was much more polarizing style wise than the 2004 Ford, and you either loved it or hated it. And, that MAJOR gamble greatly increased Dodge Ram sales for the next several years. I believe it tripled their market share if I remember correctly.

RE: Undersized tow vehicles

I'm of the belief that a truck will safely tow what is rated to tow. It may not tow it up a 45% grade at 90 MPH, but who wants to be around someone towing like that?
I agree with you. Some of the nonsense in this thread is comical. And the videos posted by the OP prove nothing. Looked like the guy in the first vid didn't know how to lock out OD, and the cars looked to be handling their loads quite well.
I say it alot, you don't need a sledgehammer to drive a thumbtack.
Just another weight police thread, nothing more. Chicken little "the sky is falling" nonsense. :R

RE: Looking to replace my T.V.

Also, the Dodges had the smaller crew cab if you are carrying kids.
John
Actually no, Dodge has a larger crew cab than Ford which is the Mega Cab, and a larger extended cab than Ford which is the Quad Cab. You were possibly confused by the Quad cab because its doors open the correct way like a crew cab, but it is NOT a crew cab.
And to the 6.0PSD owners who have replied in this thread, I wish you continued success with your engines. However, I cannot in good conscience recommend that engine to a new diesel buyer as it is statistically proven to be the costliest engine to own due to its inherent design flaws. And, just because I don't recommend it, doesn't make your particular truck a "supposed piece of junk ".

RE: Daylight savings time yea or nay

Who cares? Last time I looked there were 24 hours in the day, whether DST is in effect or not. The amount of sunlight doesn't change so what does it matter?
Again to reiterate, if you are retired, or don't work, it likely doesn't matter. However, when you have to punch the time clock, it does matter. I would much rather have the extra hour of daylight after work all year long, not just in the warmer months. Dark in the am is fine by me.

RE: Looking to replace my T.V.

I have a LLY 2005 Duramax and I have had NO indications of it even getting close to over temp. Sets at 190-195 all day towing 10,000lbs. Any diesel made prior to 2007.5 will have less smoog controls and get better economy than 2008 and up.
Not all LLY trucks were affected, but some were affected very much so. It can be fixed on the affected trucks, but I would be afraid the previous owner ran the truck hard and didn't fix the issue. That's why I don't recommend the LLY, unless you know the previous owner very well and the maintenance history of the truck.
Here is a video of an LLY truck that was indeed affected.

RE: Daylight savings time yea or nay

Time is just a way of keeping score. Go to bed when you want , get up when you want. What difference does time make?
There is no more sun shine one way or the other.
As Lt. Dan told Forrest Gump when Gump pointed out Dan had no legs, "I know that". :S
However, when you have a job, you can't just "get up when you want". You have to follow the time clock, and I wish the time clock ran on DST year round.

RE: Doubt about runaway Prius story

The article states the driver was afraid the car would "flip" if he put it into neutral at such a high speed? Why would if "flip"? :h
I realize perhaps the car wouldn't go into neutral due to the electronic nannies, but you can be sure that would be one of the first things I would try in that situation, and without fear of "flipping".

RE: insecure or inconsiderate

This has to do more than about light coming in the windows, this is about sitting at the campfire and being blinded by the neighbors “OMG the boogie man might get me” lights, which is what happen to us. The scared light was on the passenger side of the TT and lit up my awning area.
If the light off their passenger side is going into your camp without being blocked by your camper, then you parked your camper in backwards. Please be considerate and park your camper in your site the correct way and stop putting your awning up in the campsite next to you.
You mean your CG don't park passenger, or curb side to awning, or door side? How else could it be done? Think before you type.
Ummmm......
You said that their light was on their passenger side.
And it is shining into your awning area. Which should be open on your passenger side.
So if their passenger side is facing your passenger side, then someone is parked in backwards.
Who needs to think before they type?http://www.michiganwheelers.com/forums/images/smilies/hehe.gif
Muddypaw you are assuming each campground has the exact same layout. An incorrect assumption to be sure. Many campgrounds I have visited had layouts which required parking what you would call "backwards".

I wish we would run on the "summer" time year round. I dislike the "winter" schedule because it gets dark at suppertime. I'd rather have that extra hour of daylight in the evenings.
I say make Daylight Savings time the permanent time.
