RE: Flat tire - do those 12v pumps work?

For an occasional topping off, one of these works better and faster than any 12V inflator I've ever used. :) ;)

RE: Some people do not like snowbirds

When I moved from NW Pennsylvania to Texas in '78 I was nicknamed "the hemorrhoid" by my comedian co-workers. They said at least those who drop down for the season and go back up every year give them some temporary relief. :) ;)

RE: Need some advice for towing a wheelchair

I've been at the point where you are for over 10 years and here is how I handled a couple of different situations. :) ;) First, don't panic. We are fortunate to live in an era where there are plenty of options. Small portables have gotten much better in terms of capability, price and efficiency. The bottom line is, you can decide to take what they already have or look into a portable solution for those times you need it. There are also lots of sites on the Internet to help you find used units that are in great shape but the person never adjusted to using it for example. The portable powerchair we now have was 2,500$ new and we bought it one year old used for 600$. Deals are out there if you look. We've had a full sized Jazzy, a portable three wheeled scooter and now have a portable wheelchair that we really love. The portables break down into small pieces that are easy to handle and store. The portable powerchair has the lithium battery pack so it's only 80 lbs. fully assembled. We carried the portable scooter in the back of a Saturn and now use the portable wheelchair in the back of a medium sized 4 door sedan. We've also carried both in a storage bin of our Class A. We also have taken both on commercial flights and one has even been to Mexico. We carted the full sized Jazzy powerchair with a Bruno lift in the back of an Olds minivan. That worked really well, but we had to dolly the van in order to take the chair which now has been replaced with the portable. Even with the bigger chair, a Type III lift on the back of a car with air shocks or an suv or van will very easily handle the chair and the lift weight. My neighbor had a full sized scooter on the back of a Caddy and it worked great. The only problem we saw with those setups is bad weather, the chairs end up getting wet with spray from the back of the car even when covered. The van and internal lift was a better solution for us because I was always there to help load it. If they are going to be alone, the ramp type on the back and even a side load minivan would fit the bill where they can ride it on and go from there. If you are buying a new vehicle, all manufacturers will give you financial assistance if you have to retrofit for carrying an orthopaedic handicapped person. For example, GM contributed 1,500$ to the cost of the Bruno Curbsider lift in the van. All other brands we looked at did as well. Check with your state vehicle licensing agency as well for any tax exemptions for handicap equipped vehicles. If you buy a vehicle specific for this, get the handicap license plates and use the placard for other times. Good luck. :) ;)

RE: Trailer brakes on a diesel Pusher

What chassis is it? If Freightliner, there is a prewired harness under the dash. Here's some general info on that. BTW, I hooked one up this way on my '05. Good luck. :) ;)

RE: Anybody wash with pressure washer

I would just use a washmitt and a bucket of warm water with automotive carwash. Pressure washing may force water where water shouldn't go. Plus a washmitt will get it cleaner. I agree. I've never pressure washed any vehicle that didn't require some rubbing to get it clean enough for me. I washed semi's and concrete mixers by hand at my dad's garage when I was a kid. Used a 5 gallon pail with wheels and a scratch free brush and a high pressure hose nozzle. Climbed a wide two step ladder to reach up high. :) ;)

RE: Trans synd

Ahh... my 05' 2500MH came from the factory with TranSynd in it which is an extended drain interval fluid. There should be a sticker saying so near the filler neck. As said, if you are changing your FILTER that's a spin-on that is recommended at the first 5,000 miles. You don't change the fluid with this filter change but you may have to top it off. You can buy TranSynd at an Allison shop, it was $45/gal I think and that's the smallest quantity you will find. Good luck. :) ;) Actually there are places that sell just the filter and small bottles of Transynd just for the 5000 mile service. If you do this service yourself, which is not difficult, be sure to remove the disc magnet from the old filter and install it on the new filter, after you clean it of course. Here is a link to the 5000 mile service kit. The cost is $25. 5000 service kit http://oemys-performance.com/library/Allison%2003.jpg Good info. I wished the dealer would have had those back in '05. :) ;)

RE: Ford 460 engine

Hmmm... a Dolphin pulling a boat.. I thought it would be the other way around. LOL. Joking aside, check it over well and if it fits your needs buy it. I had a '94 Class C with the 460 and it's a great engine. At that age, I would be more interested in how well it was maintained than the make and model. Good luck and many miles. :) ;)

RE: slides and levelers.

The more common is to level first then extend but that doesn't apply to everyone. Monaco is one where it is the opposite. That said, I think Fleetwood is level first then extend. Happy trails !!!

RE: Texas annual vehicle safety inspection

Read here. Some clarifications you will find are the 3 day rule, in which counties and engine types you will need emissions inspections, and what other states have reciprocal inspections suitable for Texas. Have fun and good luck. :) ;)

RE: Removing Eternabond

Hi Just curious if anyone has tried to remove eternabond tape? Is it even possible and if so, what is the best way to do so? Not certain I like the look of the job I just did on our coach as it stands out on the overhang of the front and rear end caps....thinking if possible to remove some and just re-seal w/ Dicor the visable portions....BUT something is telling me it is pretty permanent. The white eternabond is paintable. I have blue FBP and found a matching color that I used to spray the sections that I could see from the ground. Only I can tell it's there now. If that's not an option and it's over a smooth and stable surface, wait for a cool day. Get a corner of the eternabond up where you can grab it with pliers. Using short jerking motions, pull like you are taking off an old bandaid. Clean up like already said. :) ;) Watch using anything like Goo Gone. Not only does it contain oils that you don't want, wherever it touches you will never be able to get Eternabond to stick again. Good luck. :) ;)

RE: Telecommuting jobs

Hi there everyone, DW and I have been living full time in our RV for over a year. We want to get 'On the road' but we know that we will have to work for quite some time since we are both still in our fourties. Does anyone have any suggestions on places to look for programmer jobs or Medical transcriptionist jobs? Does anyone have any experience with TJOBS.com? Are they a reliable company? The website looks a little cheesy. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and happy camping! - Eric - Try HP. :) ;)

RE: Branson MO

Must sees: Presley's, Baldknobbers, Pierce Arrow, Six, Yakov, and our favorite show, the Rankin Brothers. Rankin Brothers was our favorite as well. We've seen other legends shows but not one with two primary cast members doing all the impressions. Those two guys are pretty talented.

RE: Not so fixed it seems

The floor mat exercise was a psychological one. One of my wife's friends with a Lexus says she will never use floor mats again, in any car. lol. :) ;)

RE: Interior painting of a motorhome

Have been doing a gentle remodel on my 1997 26' class C Jamboree. The fake wall paper is driving me nuts! Actually I think it is glued on vinyl. I am hoping for ideas to cover it. Can vinyl be painted? Can it be papered over? Any help/guidence would be appreciated. Thanks I did our Class C with great results. Go to your local paint store and get bonding primer. That's the actual type of paint, not just a regular primer to seal the surface. I bought it at Sherwin Williams. Sherwin Williams - painting over slick surfaces. We painted some plastic cabinet veneer, vinyl wallboard and even a formica countertop in the bedroom with this primer and two coats of color on top and it never chipped. We topcoated with a latex semi-gloss enamel. Total paint and materials was about $150. Good luck, the results are worth the time and cost. :) ;)

RE: Rving vs camping

I used to sleep in an open tent on the snow but I left the Boy Scouts a long time ago. Put me in the "I want it all" category. If I want rustic I'll unhook my toad and take a day trip. :) ;) But, I enjoy seeing young families do the primitive camping thing together. It builds parent/child relationships that last for a lifetime.
