RE: Happy Camping Toy Haulers

Thanks for the post and remembering that Memorial Day is not about BBQ and a long weekend. Remembering that some gave ALL for their Nation.

RE: Voltage 3895 Versus Cyclone 3800

Well it's a done deal - thanks for all the feedback, we went with the 2014 Voltage 3895. After spending about 4.5 hours with both units side by side the choice became pretty clear. The few things that had kept the Cyclone in the running were ultimately over ruled by the benefits of the Voltage... Not really knocking the Cyclone because I do think it is a good coach on the front end, I think the Voltage has better long term potential. Just to review in case helpful to others searching similar. I also did a little comparison to the Fuzion as the dealer I purchased from is also a Fuzion dealer. The three season doors are not that sturdy - between my son n me I can see one of us breaking something pretty easily. If we decide we really need them, Voltage now has them available.... While the bigger L shaped couch is nice, it was not even mildy comparable to the Voltae. Voltage changed to residential type commercial furniture - the Cyclone furniture is built in the factory along with the rest of the coach - No comparison. Overall fit n finish of the coach. Full door frames rather than open tops. Entertainment center - look n feel n finish. 50" TV... 7k axles / 19k GVWR on Voltage - we would have been over loaded on the Cyclone after bikes, tools n parts before we ever got to food, cloths n other supplies... Several of the items that 2010 - 2012 voltage owners had issues with have been addressed / corrected; In addition to third slide guide on all slides, they increased the size of the slide moters on the 2014 models. They put a 12v radio system in - someone said earlier models only had 110v sound systems Outside stereo controls Main living area floor flexed under my footsteps on Cyclone - nothing on Voltage Additional room in master bedroom was so much easier to navigate with Thermostat with 3 seperate controlled zones - 3rd A/C unit - after so many comments about heating / cooling issues with Cyclone... Don't need 88* nose / turning radius - I have a long bed F350 - that impacted inside area of bedroom on Cyclone Larger shower enclosure Double grey n black tanks and 160 gal fresh water Outside water n sewage service center / controls I could go on, though I think I am really starting to sound a little partial... :) I am sure there will be a few issues that come up - this is my third toy hauler and these things are not perfect... I have a high level of confidence in the dealer we chose, and now in the coach we chose so am comfortable we will work though any issues that arise. I am going to do the warranty plan even through I normally do not do extend warranties - with things like the hydrolic leveling, slide outs, 4 TV's, rear mechanical bunks, etc, I think it is worth the cost of $1,400 for 6 years Thanks again for all the replies. We will be using the coach for 5 consecutive weekends two days after we take delivery next weekend so I will be able to give some pretty fast feedback.... Congrats! Thank you for the rundown and now...PICTURES! I would like to know where you found dealer with both. A side by side comparison would have been nice.

RE: "Little things to know" about 2500 series Suburbans/Yukons?

I love my 8.1L Suburban 2500! Moved from F150, which was capable for my TT, but did not like the lack of comfort for family and pet. It is very capable but it took me about 3-months to find the right one. It is high mileage, but with trade in of F150 no payments required! For a family with children, pets, and extended family it was our best choice!

RE: The ideal campground..

Big wide roads, privacy between sites, water view, nice helpful office, clean and neat. Rv wash station, Ice Cream shop, BBQ at lunch, live music on weekends....$30 per night. Nice Clean Park, Full of Amenities, and Cheap? I have always said you could get 2 out of the 3 but not all 3! Let me know when you find the mysterious RV Park you speak of!

RE: 1T Pickup special rules and regulations?

It really all depends on the state. For instance, in Texas (per the TxDPS regulation) if you are pulling a trailer that weighs more than 10K you would need a Class A (not a standard Class C) license. If the trailer is less than 10K then one would require a Class B license. TxDPS Licensing Many folks do not meet this requirement and many may not even know it exists. So I would definitely ensure you call your local Department of Motor Vehicle (or equivalent) to ensure you meet the licensing standards. Here in Texas there is also the reg that if your combined wieght exceeds 26000lbs even if trailer is less than 10000 requires thee class A non-cdl.you got to turn the page after reading the exemptions as its an exception to the exemption I know it's there and have read and understand it. Unfortunately I don't think enough other folks understand and comply with the requirement.

Iread the exemptions and there is basically exemptions for RV's. "CDL" COMERCIAL DRIVERS LICENSE" It says at the start, "You are exempt if you are pulling an rv for personal use. Unless that weigh station says all vehcles inluding rv's, buses ect. No need to weigh and I sure would worry about getting a CDL. I have in years past seen sign at a scale that said ALL TRUCKS, BUSES AND rv's must weigh but havent seen those signs since the nation wide CDL laws took effect. I find it hard to beleive that I could be stopped while Rv'ing thru Texas and be parked until I obtained a CDL or a particular class of license when my state and many other dont require it. For what its worth however, I see nothing wrong with getting a class A endorsment if you can get one with your RV in tow. Tom, I didn't say a CDL. In Texas a Class A license is not a CDL. Texas has a CDL and a non-commercial license for the large vehicles. If you read the info on the link provided it distinguishes the difference. And with the reciprocity agreements Texas would not require you to have a Class A unless you had a Texas DL.

RE: Getting into a 5th wheel

I think you could definitely do it. I would look at smaller (or lighter FWs) that can still be used FT. I would look at used 1-tons though as might be easier to resell (if required). I cannot fault you on the choice of a HD truck though. I do think it makes more sense than an apartment. Though a home purchase would also make sense if you could rent it after done with school. You may be able to find a CG that could allow you to work camp for the cost of your space. You sound like you have a good work ethic.

RE: Bearing failure

About right. GM had problems a few years on them. Replaced them on DW's '06 GMC Yukon XL at about the same mileage. The mechanic was not surprised!
