The safety of your family should be the overriding reason for the 2500 truck. I've towed to the limit before and it just isn't worth it. The truck is to the max of its range and the drivetrain is beyond that IUMHO.
Oh there are idiots everywhere thinking they are saving something by going over the top, they only fool themselves. Just take a look at the differences in the drivetrain as to brakes, trans, and rear end, which one are you going to trust?

Much less fuel THAN even today? What are they planning? Raise the prices so high no one can buy food and fuel at the same time?. Oh-food and fuel don't go together in same sentence...sorry.
The latest CAFE standard requires 56 MPG

The economy has not hit us as hard as diesel gas prices! We typically only do one/two short range trip (6 or less hours one way) per year. Back 8 years ago, we would do 3 or 4 medium and long range trips... and 10+ hours was not a big deal.
We fly now if the destination is over 10 hours away.
Back in May 2008 I paid $5.00 for Diesel and was happy to get it for $4.80!
I put on 15,000 on one of our "little" trips across the US that year and was in most states. I am more than happy that over the course of 5 years the prices are still lower!

Here's a little gem from Forbes on fuel,
The good news for motorists is that gasoline prices are expected to be more affordable in the coming months than they were during the two preceding summers. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration’s (EIA) just released Short Term Energy Outlook, retail gas prices are expected to average $3.63 a gallon during this summer’s driving season. This figure is slightly below the $3.69 figure recorded last year and $3.71 in summer of 2011, and is only slightly higher than the national average of $3.61 a gallon as of April 8.
This sunny forecast is largely based on an expected decline in crude oil prices combined with higher gasoline inventory levels and a continuing drop in demand due to increased small-car sales and other factors. The EIA predicts the price of Brent crude oil (a benchmark that’s tied to wholesale gasoline costs in the U.S.), will average $107.50 per barrel this summer, which would be around $1.50 less than it was during the same period in 2012.

I still think the base product is much the same but the additives are put in to make a better fuel. Additives cost money and there again I am certain that some would eliminate them to make a bigger profit.

So far, CVTs work well in low-speed/high-torque (tractors) high-speed/low-torque (cars) but no one has built a high-speed/high-torque (trucks/etc) CVT that has reliability.
Agreed many of the Ford engineers I've talked to have said CVT is for the smart car size not for car and trucks.
GM and Ford will be happy if they can squeeze 1 mpg more out of an 8 speed.
Look for more electric cars or hybrids as they can boost the CAFE mileage with out much pain.

I mentioned Wallmart being or doing something to cheapen the product as that is their MO in many other products from paint to bird food!
These people have a history and it isn't all that good.
I think I agree with BB TX on the BP brand going further but never documented the fuels. I also agree that many different stations dip out of the same tank but the difference is what additives they put IMHO.

I don't think the new fuel has the problems of the old. I don't have any proof but when I buy from a truck stop or one of the main stations I "seem" to get better mileage. I don't buy at a no name unless I am desperate.
Walmart would never be a choice I don't shop there and wouldn't trust them on any product.

If your going with the standard friction sway bar you will need 2 of them with a rig that long and heavy... I would seriously think about the Reese Dual Cam or Equal-i-zer as others have suggested...

Ah a suggestion..........
First it matters most how much you tow! Because you need to have an understanding between you and the trailer.
Secondly I learned on a single friction bar and continue to use it today on its 3rd trailer, the last 2 at 34 feet.
I've towed with this arrangement all over the US and some of Canada , over 200,000 miles in all kinds of conditions. No problem.
The TV is the other component and it needs to be not just able be more than the minimum and you can never go to big IMHO.

Know plenty of folks still in Fl from MN. They told me it was to early to go home. Sounds like they were right. Bought my DW a Kindle HD for Xmas. She won't leave it alone as I've loaded many games on it for her. I have plenty of books plus Amazon prime which gives vids and books and 2 day shipping. She still hasn't read a book on it though, LOL.
Getting the truck's body repaired after incident in GA and having the trailer warranty issues done should be RVing in the UP by May. We'll see what diesel is up there it is always a surprise!

I'm not trying to skimp on safety here. In trying to skimp on convenience. I just want to know if the friction bars are just as effective. I'm going to take care of this as soon as I can.
We have always used just one friction bar by reese with torsion bars of course. Towed all of the US, 200,000 miles and more

Actually, it's monopoly economics at work. They all do the same thing, and at their pleasure.
Yeah, I know. That's why we're paying through the nose for gasoline/diesel.
SRT if you are going to worry daily about the price of fuel then you will only drive yourself nuts. Get a hobby!
hop in your RV and go but a few miles somewhere without WIFI or TV you'll feel better at the end of the day.

I have about 200,000 miles on my sway bar. I never take it off for turns or backing up. I do loosen it when backing it into a parking spot but that is it.
Common sense is important here as if you are concerned do what you want. I try not to let the little stuff bother me to much.

Jayco recommends repacking every year or 12,000 miles. My trailer has the hubs with a jerk fitting but I never have relied on that. It costs me 90 bucks and they check out the brakes, do the Mor/ryde and rotate the tires. I do tow somewhere between 12,000 and 15,000 a year so the peace of mind is worth it to me. Plus my Jayco dealer has always gone the extra yard in both helpful hints and performance.

I get Meguers Car wash at Costco has wax built in it like a car wash. cleans well and when I dry the unit I use Eagle 1 wax that is just lightly spayed and wiped off. That said the front is different whereas I use a good paste wax applied with a buffer and buffed off. The front is where all the road damage is done from bugs to rocks!
This method has worked great on 2 trailers now for the last 6 years.
