RE: New US State Dept. Warning For Mexico

werwin48: Just exactly what is your point?? What do French Canadians have to do with crime in Mexico? Moisheh I am so sorry, to understand my post. But of course French Canadians have nothing to do with crime in Mexico, but my post is a answer of a Thread, what I was reading before. An US Camper couldn't find a Campground in Mexico, with English spoken Campers, there all camping sites, were occupied with French Canadian. I think Mexico is no more dangerous than anywhere in the world.

RE: New US State Dept. Warning For Mexico

Such reports are more likely to contribute that is spoken on the Mexican Campgrounds, only French than English. French Canadian, let that barely hold to travel to Mexico. For example, Acapulco Trailer Park, filled with with 75% French Canadian, only 2 U.S. and 4 German, RV's...

RE: Entering Mexico - Oh My Gawd!

Linda from Canada wrote: The easiest crossing we have used is at Columbia Bridge, near Laredo. We took at 12/4/2009 this Border crossing. There is only one thing, what you have to know at Columbia Bridge. If you come down from I-35, then you don't take the FM255 (Camino Columbia Toll RD). This is a toll road without paying cash. You need a TxTag (Texas Tollway System). You have to go down, at Laredo, take Exit 9, FM1472 and FM255 to the Border. At the Mexico Border Office, there is a Big Parking space, where you can, Overnight Parking, if you are short on time and not like to travel by night. To process the border formality's is to do, only in one building. We spent only 35 Minutes, for doing all paperwork.

RE: For what its worth....

Since we travel in Mexico, we never had Problems at any Checkpoints. Ok as we travel with our small RV with German Plates, non of any soldiers are entered the car. But now with our 5W and a Truck with TX Plates we are generally check even we travel without our 5W. They would not screw up the Americans, no, they have to show, how strong is the control. But the soldiers alway were absolutely correct. Sometimes my Wife shouted, to enter my 5W only, without his boots and then he didn't go in my 5W. Best is also you make a small talk with one of the leaders it helps to keep down the situation. If this control is annoying, so it needs to be done. Mexico is on a dangerous path.

RE: brownsville to P. Vallarta

We drove from SLP - MEX57D, MEX80 (some miles in bad condition), MEX101 (new roads, bypasses the winding road over the old pass) to CDV, MEX180 and MEX97 to McAllen. Most Roads, except for a few miles, on MEX80, after MEX57D, are in really good condition. We will take this Route coming from Acapulco back to Texas, at End of February...

RE: Fresh Fodder For Mexico Alarmists

Bad for the girl, but I do not think that this news will upset me. In the 2 months I am now in Mexico, have similar things happened in Berlin, Germany and you can not really speak, Berlin is one of a dangerous city. Another message came two weeks from Zihuatanejo. A couple from Quebec were injured by firearms in a robbery as they drove by on a bicycle on a Beach road. The woman was wounded on a ear, the man was shot in the shoulder. Both were lucky, only a few inches was a decision on life or death. According to the latest news, the perpetrators were quickly caught. Finally, the authorities and the hotel owners to take a strong interest the perpetrators as quickly as possible to caught.

RE: Parks without English speaking

Oh, that's a nice discussion. Yes, we are also surrounded by Québecers ... Some speak English, but usually they speaks only French and nobody speaks German!! The solution is quite simple, it does not drive any German motorhomes into Mexico and just a few from the US Staat. It would almost certainly talked a lot more English if more US Americans would travel to Mexico, what is the reason, they don't like to go to Mexico?

RE: 7 Americans killed in Mexico?

I watch every day TV news in Acapulco trailer park, Mexico. I am sure, if 7 Americans was killed, that this becomes a special news here.... The only news about this was an drunken tractor-trailer whose slammed in a bus carrying Canadians and Americans and killed 11 tourists.... here the whole story http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29737609/ There are many rumors about Mexico, but most of them are not true. Ok, for us, the Germans, it is like traveling in some European countries. But I wonder why more Canadian down here as Americans. Perhaps their newspapers write about news in the drug war in the border towns. But if you stay away from the drug scene, they are not so affected. There is only one really dangerous thing in Mexico, the name is Tope, for your vehicle is a murderous affair. They can not all be seen on the road, and you can be sure to find one to ... especially if you do not follow the major rule, do not drive at night. It is not dependent on Banditos, which do not exist in real life, no, it is a Speed bumper there will destroying the springs and tires on your car.

We are here in Acapulco Trailer Park, since three weeks. I can't remember I saw so many police in Acapulco. But now starting the Christmas Holiday in Mexico. There also is starting the normal thief season. Also we don't have to wonder us, that is normal the crime rate is rising during falling global economics.

RE: Bici Map Micro SD Card

Normally, Bici Maps are compatible with Garmin Recivers and Garmin Map. The bici map, preloaded MicroSD card or SD card, does not work with MapSource. The map unlock key is generated, via SD/MicroSd cards ID and should work on all recommended Garmin Navi devices by Bici Map . The second thing, the Mexican map or other maps are not shown, unless you remain in the GPS position, depending on the card. Only you can see if the map is unlocked, in your Navi-855 (Menu > Settings > Maps > MAP INFO) and see what maps are installed. Also there is a warning after start your navi if a Card Map was read but is not unlockt. On the webpage of bici maps is not any recommended procedure to unlock a legal SD/MicroSD card, bici map.

RE: Pharr or Los Indios Crossings

I was crossing the border twice, at Pharr/Hidalgo. There is a new Building, were you get the Tourist Card and your vehicle sticker. Normally there is no waiting time to enter Mexico, otherwise only on holidays. Border waiting time, for reenter in the States, you will see it: http://apps.cbp.gov/bwt/ It is not necessary or recommended, to get your permit and tourist card,on an other day, as you like to cross the border. This procedure takes not a long time, if you go early in the morning, you have enough time, to travel (330km/202mi) via Mex97, Mex101 to CD Victoria. In CD Victoria is the CP Victoria Trailer Park, at GPS N23.74364 W99.13589, or Blvd. Fidel Velazquez.

RE: Beware of Pemex 3811 a few miles south of Santa Ana

Since we travel in Mexico, we never had, a scam on a Pemex or other facility. But we watch always, my wife and I, what the Guys doing, around our Truck. If you stay for Gas, then always keep your eyes on the pump. Don't let him open the Gas cap, open it, by your self. Watch, if the Guy is clearing the pumps manometer. That's minimized the known tanking scam. We know a lot of such scam in Europe. We are not paranoid, it is a sport, sometimes the fraudsters will win, but usually we win ....

RE: Road Tolls - What Am I?

A lot of the new Toll Roads in Mexico are really expensive. They charge you, for a 5th Wheeler and a Truck as two vehicles. This is quite more as an Commercial Truck with 6 axles. You don't can see the price on the toll booth. Many times I went in, to the toll station to ask for the correct toll, but it was always the right charge. The different toll comes from different Company's which operate the toll road.

RE: Comparing maps and GPS etc.

Since 5 years we travel in Mexico. It was always practicable, to use a Garmin GPS and Maps, an small laptop with DeLorme Street Atlas, a Guia Roji and The Church, Camping in Mexico. There is always a delay for 1-2 years until the new roads in the electronic maps like Garmin, Street & Tripps, DeLorme, are found. For me it is very important, the latitude / longitude coordinates (N20 24.667 W103 40.180, chimulco trailer park), as are given in the book camping in Mexico, I can mark directly into the elektronic map, that we can find the desired point without difficulty. Especially the new small netbooks (Lenovo Ideapad 10-2 S) are equipped with a GPS receiver and DeLorme Street Atlas or Microsoft Street & Tripp's excellent for navigation in Canada / USA and Mexico.

RE: Crossing & Route To Ciudad Victoria

Since years we take border crossing at Columbia International Bridge in Laredo. No hassle no problems also good for Big Rigs. Since this year the toll road from I35 to the boarder, is accessible only with a Texas Xtag. The Boarder Crossing at Laredo City is also without problems but more busy. Then you take MEX85D, Monterrey, MEX57D until Queretaro direction MEX45D Salamanca. There is since 2 years the new Autopista open from MEX45D to Morelia (MEX43D). We don't take the Morelia Periferico we follow the way directly trough the City, there is no Problem then we go via MEX43D u. MEX37D directly to MEX200… Most of this way is a toll road (Autopista) but the costs are much cheaper as the hassle on the Libere Roads with a lot of topes. This year we will go in the first week in December from Houston, TX to nearly Acapulco. If you like to go to via CD Victoria, then also a good Boarder Crossing is in McAllen – Reynosa, new Building and lots of Parking Space. Stay away at the Autopista MEX40D to Monterrey this is an very high price toll road if you travel by a 5th wheeler or RV with a Tow Car.
