Oh for the record HANDHELD TUNERS are a waste of money. Custom Tuning by Blackbear or WESTERS and your truck is a differnet animal. If Fuster tuned his 8.1L by Blackbear or Westers LOOK OUT. It will be stout. Versus a stock Duramax Numbers wise it will be VERY VERY CLOSE. If he did any other work to it My money is on the Big Block. The allison automatic in the 8.1L is the same as the Duramax if nothing else the 8.1L will be gear lower in the rear end.

That would be the OEM under hood filter I am assuming. If its rated @ 4 mu, then that is excellent.! Should work well then with a Lrg pre-OEM 10 mU filter that can catch all the major junk and likely some of the smaller stuff too. Should allow for long intervals between changes and easily justify using OEM/Delco filters.

I like it.!

That's respectable power, I would like to have the 500+ lbs. of torques. Stock I am at 380 HP and 400 torque, if I did the SC I could get 500 HP and 500 Torque but they don't give those SCs away.

If you want more power and spend less money and get a custom tune. They are cheaper then the superchips hypertech etc. Blackbear charges 250 for a custom tune taylored to your vehicle. They do in person tuning sessions all over the country. Justin will plug in his laptop and go for a ride with you and program on the fly. You will feel the truck come to life as you drive. He will gurantee it for life if you change anything tires add more mods etc. Send him the ECM and he will customize it again around the mods you made to take the most advantage of that particular mod.

I would like some REAL fuel mileage numbers on STOCK 8.1L vs. D-Max. Also some opinions on towing with each from someone that has done it. Thanks

I love the 8.1; it will pass everything on the road except a gas station. I have had four; 2500 Avalanche,2500 Suburbam and two 2500HD pickups. Loved them all. Then I drove a Duramax and never looked back. I'm on my second Duramax and it is awesome. The 8.1 gave me about 10mpg around town and 12 mixed and on the highway. Never really got more than that. 4:10 rear on all of them. Light towing didn't change the mpg much, if any. Heavy towing will get you about 4-8mpg. You can almost see the gas gauge drop. You will also use more oil. I used about 1 qt every 3K miles not towing and 2-3 towing. This is considered normal by GM. Snow plowing yields the same results as towing. My Dmax gets about 12-14mpg around town and 19-21 highway. Towing light it drops to about 14/15. Heavy towing gets me about 10/11 if I keep the speed no higher than 60-65. I got impatient a coupla weeks ago driving home from FL and when I picked up the pace to 75+, my economy plummeted to about 7/8mpg. I should mention the truck would pull the heavy trailer as fast as I wanted to with no problem and my EGT's stayed where they should. For towing, you really can't beat the Duramaz/Allison combo. I should mention I have an Edge Juice/Attitude on the truck.

The newer Silverados with the Allison automatics make trailer brakes pretty much not needed.

I'm driving an LBZ (06 Dmax CCSB). I would argue that yes the Allison is nice in the Tow-haul mode and that it regulates ones speed to a certain extent. But to say that you really dont need electric trailer brakes is misleading at best and downright incorrect at worst.! It helps a lot, but brakes you is gonna need .. regardless.!!

My trailer is only a lightweight...but drive it without brakes...?? nah I dont think so. Much too hard on the truck system and it lengthens ones braking distance to the point of not being usefull in normal traffic cause someone will almost always pull in front of ya on the road.!

Brians mileage #'s posted directly above are pretty much bang on with what I get...with 265's Michelin LTX M/S tires on stock PYO's.

my opinion too.!

Ya know, I spnet a lot of coin on my Banks system. It required me to buy a Palm Pilot as well. But I must say it was money well spent to date.

For my outlay I got:

A Palm Pilot that works as it is designed to for all its standard applications inlcuding Banks Power + Bluetooth.

An electronic device that allows me to see in real time 12 different gauges including EGT and Boost as opposed to having to purchase a pillar post with a max of only 3 gauges..?? as well its (the Pillar post), something ya hit your head on each time getting into the truck.!

A Tuner that has safety systems built in such that you will not limp your tranny or over fuel your engine. It will defuel as required and it does add about 1.5 mpg overall to my performance.

An OBDII Reader/scanner code clearing unit

So saying it isn't worth it and a waste of money...?? well sorry but I simply do not agree. To date, its been worth every penny in my opinion. And I am not knocking EFI Live either. But for my driving style, it works.

Upto 300hp and 450+ lbs of torque ABOVE stock numbers.

Smarty or PPE downloaders will give you this, for diesel of course.
