Hi Max, 52 is the best site on the river IMHO. If it was a choice between Tannehill and Foscue - Definitely Foscue!! Great campground with nice size lots. Tannehill used to have nice big lots then they decided to put more campsites in by inserting them between present campsites. Still a nice place but it was nicer. Also first come first served. BTW DW and I saw 35 barges in the week at all hours of the day and night plus a slew of Pontoon Boats, Yachts (small and large) plus other assorted watercraft.
We have camped at Burchfield and it is a very nice place BUT it is a long way from conveniences except a small gas station with some camping staples and great steaks. Also, you will go down a long steep grade to get there so you will also need to pull back up that long steep grade to leave so be sure you got the horses to pull it. Nice spot no sewer. We were one of 3 campers the last week in Sept of 2005 and we enjoyed walking around the campground with the 2 pups all all hours. Reminded us of a CG in the Smokey Mtns. Also get tugs coming down rive through the locks but not as easy to see as at Foscue due to camp layout.
Forkland as Heir Max has stated is not FHU and all but 12 or so sights at Foscue Park are FHU. Also, you are about 15 minutes from DT Demopolis and there are a lot of nice restaurants there. DW and I were there 8 days and ate at 5 or 6 different ones. Can't remember all the names but there was a pizza place that also served great pasta. The downhome place that had a great breakfast buffet (Groan I overate both times). The BBQ place plus the MacD's, Sonic, Jacks, etc. And a Walmart Supercenter just after you get back on main Hwy in case you forgot anything. The gas station where you enter turn to go to park has a nice breakfast at a very reasonable price. We felt like all the eateries were very friendly, great food and good prices...
Go to Foscue, you'll be glad you did!

If U go to Foscue make sure U either call the park or make reservations. They have done away with all the non-reserveable spaces. So depending on the time of the year and what is going on there might not be any spaces. The park has been staying pretty full lately. I go by it on my way to work. Also it did not flood out so far. As stated there are no bad spaces there. Enjoy.

This may not be mid-way, but Lake Guntersville State Park is beautiful. Haven't stayed there, but drove through and feel it will be a great spot for us in the future. I'm sure they have W & E, don't remember about sewer. Good hiking, fishing, wildlife and a golf course.

I'll 3rd or 4th or 15th Foscue. We stay there quite regularly and as Heir stated, there are no bad sites. We personally don't like the ones right on the river but to each their own.
If you use Google maps to map a route from Tipton to Shreveport it takes you right through Demopolis and then you're just a couple of miles from the park.
I just checked www.recreation.gov and there are plenty of open spots for the next couple of months. Book early because once it warms up a little around here it'll start filling up.

Hello Katfish, good to hear from you again. I hope you are doing well. Ruby and I traded our 20 ft Jayco BH for a 29ft with a slide and we got a new Tundra with the 5.7 engine and the tow package. We may be coming back down again before too long. We really enjoyed Foscue and Demopolis and have been talking about going back. She has a new position as a full-time aide with the county school system and is out for the summer. Now we just have to figure out when I can get loose.
Take care,
Richard & Ruby

Hello there Kamperman, good to hear from U again. Things have been very busy here with the river rising and all. Been working a lot. Hope to get off soon and try some camping myself. We have been going over to Millers Ferry and enjoying it too. There is another park up by Selma we want to look at and see if we would like it. Know U will enjoy ur new trailer.

katfish and max,
Have either of you ever done Pickensville? If so, how was it?
I have wanted to check it out for a couple of years but never even got to do a Light Recon with DW. We're looking for some new places to visit some time in the fute.
Take care guys. Good to hear from you again.
