It's called a Restriction 41 Endorsement.
It consists of having to take the written non comm'l class a test. Not the drive portion.
I can assure you it will take you half a day at the DMV because only 1 or two people in the whole joint will know about this test.
I came with all the info, pointed it out, drew a picture, yada yada and it still took them a couple hours to figure it out, literally.
Never been pulled over to check it, but it Cali it is law, and I've heard of holiday weekends out towards Glamis and busy areas that cops had pulled some people over checking for this, so better safe than sorry.
I just took this test today. The test is very easy. Just common sense stuff. Just went to the test window with no appointment. Was in and out in a half hour. Manke was right though, they had to check around to find out what to do but it was quick. After I passed I was given a sticker that says I may tow a fifth wheel between 10,001 and 15,000 lbs. They will send me a new license with it on it.

I did this last December. I didn't realize it meant a new DL photo. I had to give up my nice sun-tanned photo that I've had for years and trade it in for a rain soaked pale trailer trash picture.
I guess that's the real me.
At least the test was quick. My DMV (Newhall) found the test right away and took care of me pretty quickly.

Patrick went and got his endorsement this last week. The girl looked at him with a blank stare and he pulled out the info just like you suggested, Manke. She left and came back a little while later with the same blank stare. He ended up taking the non comm't class A test only. They did not make him take the class C test even though it's been more than 12 mos since he qualified for his class c license. They did try to charge him for the new d/l though and he refused. Although the test only took him 5 minutes to pass, he was still there for an hour with all the looking up they had to do and the waiting for his picture to be taken. He also waited in line for 1 hour for them to open. He had to because the next appt avail at DMV was more than 1 month away. You definitely have to bring the booklet with the endorsement info with you, or you will be there a good part of your day.

They work great. Perfect for that morning cup of coffee. He used 8" cheese wood cutting boards. Ordered them from Amazon $6.00 plus shipping each. Jeff's end tables are great! I love the wood! A lot nicer than just putting up a square piece of regular wood and staining or painting.
Our 3010 is on it's way here to So CA. Went by Richardson's today just in case it arrived, but no such luck. Am anxious to get it and start using it. Looks like we may not be going to Glamis for Thanksgiving. They still have to prep it for us and there's the final inspection. I assme that's a whole day thing & neither Patrick nor I can take off work Mon, Tues or Wed to do it, so it seems impossible to get it before Thanksgiving. Bummer! Just sold our 2009 16ft Carson Rebel yesterday morning, so have nothing to go to Glamis with until we get the 2011 Cyclone 3010.

We are headed out to Octillo Wells for T-Day. Jeff has been busy making modifications to our trailer all weekend. Takes a lot of time. He made a custom rack in the back to hold our quad. We have a razr in the garage and my quad. His quad is on the back. Made reservations at Glamis North KOA for New Years. Should be interesting. It's about 30 minutes from Glamis. It will be nice to have hookups for a change. Keep us posted on the arrival of your 3010.

Nothing ever happens quick enough. Be thankfull though that you were able to sell your old trailer. You might not have it but at least you know your not stuck with it either. It was a great relieve for me when I sold ours. Once you get your new one though you'll be so over whelmed you won't know where to start gloating about the new "baby" in the family.
off subject, I just added a cloths rod to the garage for my first "mod" as it were.
Here are some pictures of what I did. I just removed 1 bolt (each side) that holds the upper bed to the frame and replaced it with screw eyes. Then went to Home depot and purchased a wood cloths rod and installed it. I installed 2 small screws in the wood bar to keep it from sliding around.

On this endorsement dmv thing. When we picked up our trailer from richardson's they gave us a dmv hand book. On page 11 it says to pull a 5th wheel not over 15k lbs, you need to add this "recreational trailer endorsement" to your class c license. Since the 3010 is listed at 14k, we should be ok with the endorsment.
Listed below that in the book is:
There is no fee unless your class c expires in 6 months or less.
You will have to take a law test for non commercial class a licensed based on the info in the book they gave us.
You will have to take a class c law test as well unless you have taken it with in 12 months.
You are not required to submit a health questionnaire.
You are not required to take a driving test.
there was a few other lines listed but nothing important there

Yeah, we went back to the fairgrounds to measure a few things a few days after finding out about the endorsement and when I was talking to Mark Richardson about not knowing about the endorsement, I suggested to him that he give his customers a DMV booklet and tell them about the endorsement when they purchase from them. I told him that would impress me and get me to tell all my friends about them.

Hey anitajeff, I'd love to see some pics of what you guys have done with this quad rack and how you're transporting the rzr and quad. Whenever you have the chance that would be great
Thanks.

Jeff passed his Restriction 41 test today. Also, had to take class c test again. His Class C license didn't expire until 2013. He gets a whole new license and picture.
