Thanks for the input, Lee. So long as you guys that are towing late model Odyssey's continue with positive reports, I plan to buy one when we get back from this summer's trip and roll the dice myself-- so let us know if you run into any good reasons why I shouldn't do that!

I suppose anything said here about an Odyssey would also apply to a late model Civic or Accord. Do any of you think otherwise? Then how about the Acuras (MDX, TSX, TL? How about Ridgeline?

As the one that started this tread, I thought an update was only fair.

After the information from here as well as others I talked to we set up our 2007 EX. We have now towed it more than 1400 miles (Denver to Pismo Beach) and will tow it another 1600 by the end of next week.

The only problem we have run in to is, the battery does not seem to hold more than 3 hours in the ACC setting with the break pro running.

Taken while sitting on highway 116 charging up the battery on the van.

Thanks for the update. To solve your battery problem you might try this.

Thanks for the update.

In my case, I chose a US Gear Unified brake controller for our Odyssey. It charges the battery from the motor home while driving. Without it, it would die quickly, especially considering the aux vacuum pump that the brake system uses.

Thanks to all-- I've never had a braking system before, but thought I would get one when I get the Odyssey; sounds like the US Gear version will be a good choice, both in terms of braking and resolving the battery issue.

It is a great system in my opinion, however beware that it takes a significant effort to install if you plan to do it yourself, at least when compared to the standalone drop in setups that push on the pedal.

For all you guys that are flat-towing a newer Odyssey in spite of Honda's recommendations, I admire your guts! Please keep this forum apprised of your experiences. We had an 06 Odyssey for about 18 months, and it was one of the greatest cars we've owned.

I am watching how this all turns out also. Have wanted to tow the Odyssey for a long time and finally decided to go with the Malibu just to be "safe".

What I would really rather tow though is the "Ridgeline" because that would allow me to have a family sized cabin (enough for grandkids) and plus have a pickup box on which I could place a topper.

Unfortunately - the Ridgeline is specified as "not towable" either and I absolutely refuse to buy GM or Chrysler now.

God Bless

Just got back from our second trip pulling the 2008 Honda Odyssey. Put another 1700 miles of towing on it without any issues. Burnet, Tx to Carlsbad NM, Ruidoso NM, back to Burnet. So far so good.

Leaving next Friday to Gatlinburg and then to Chicago to watch Kyle Bush win at Chicagoland Speedway.
