I think you are talking about north to south. This is the route we often take except that we skip rt 66. When you reach Winchester, VA just get on 17 and take it all the way to 95. This route avoids Baltimore and DC.

Your way or Roadpilot's version are great and an easy drive. Do it both north to south and S to N several times per year and depending on the mood, will sometimes do it your way and sometimes Roadpilot's way and if we want to see some more horse country, we'll take (N to S) 50 to 15 and then south to 17. Enjoyable area and sights.

Used it many times when avoiding Baltimore and DC. Good road, easy travel except for the couple of miles at Fredricksburg(heavy traffic).Only problem for us is it's about 40 miles longer.

either 17 or 66 to 17 would be fine but I would check the mileage and if not more drop down to 66 myself. Sometimes the traffic is backed up getting onto south bound I-95 at Fredricksburg and if you are NOT in a RV you can go across I-95 on the bridge, take the first U turn, into a hotel parking lot, and get on I-95 south from the other direction.

I'm curious, 40 miles longer than what other way? I,m looking to get from rt 81 to rt 95 the shortest way, don't like the rt 64 as its very hilly and foggy most nights, thanks

I think he was talking about coming from NY, not your route.

Sorry about that guys. Yes, coming down from NY, the run out to 81 and down is 40 miles longer than picking up 95 in NJ.
