Keep in mind not all RVs use the same coloured wires. Most of the instructions I found referred to matching colours but that didn't help me because my wires didn't correspond to them.

I had to connect them according to the function of each wire:

Original connection to New connection:
GND = RC & RH (jumpered)
HI FAN/FAN = G
COOL (A/C) = Y
FUR (furnace/heat) = W
7.5 = Not used

ok-lets try this again.
my colors, what they were hooked up to original and what they are on hunter

MINE DOMETIC HUNTER

RED/ +7.5/ not used
YELLOW/ COOL/ "Y"
WHITE/ FURNANCE/ "W"
BLUE/ FAN-HI/ Middle post(of 3)of switch
BROWN/ FAN/ "G"
GREEN/ GROUND/ "Rc"

"Rc" and "Rh" jumped along with a jumper from the #1 post of switch to "G"

I'd be willing to bet that if you do not use the switch that the FAN (my brown) would be replaced with Fan/hi(my blue) and Fan would not be used, or maybe both are used-just a guess on my part, I'd check it first

Come on Les, jump in anytime

if you look at the closeup again between the yellow and fatter red(jumper) you'll see the TT red folded back into the wall. can see where it may look like that, but trust me, it's shoved back into the wall

As stated above, very easy mod to do and many people have done it... including me.

Here is the link I used yesterday to swap out a failing Coleman thermostat in our Bounder. Cant remember the last time we used the fan on low so I skipped over the extra fan switch part and just hooked up the fan high speed wire.

http://www.klenger.net/RV_General/HVAC_H........at/hunter-digital-tstat-instructions.pdf

This was such an easy swap I am going to buy another Hunter unit for the second furnace/AC units.

Well gang, the best thing to remember here is that the color coded wiring in different model trailers WILL NOT be the same... The best thing to do is inspect the old thermostat first and see if there is any terminal identification on the old stat - there usually is...

Below is a picture of my 1999 Nomad wiring... My 2006 color coding was identical but that is definitely not the norm...

Les

Plus the original wiring documentation from my article

Ground - Black or green "RC"

Fan - Orange or Tan "G"

Cool - Yellow "Y"

Ground - Black or Green "RH"

Heat - White "W"

Hi Fan - Blue Thru SPST switch to "G" (Tan)

Red - +7.5 volts DC not used

Hunter thermostat Heating System Selector switch set to "HG"... "F/C" selector switch to "F" ...

If you don't connect the hi fan lead, you'll obviously just have low fan... Connecting the hi fan lead to the "G" terminal will result in hi fan all the time...

Thanks for the info. How many trailers use the same thermostat to control both AC and heat? Mine controls the heater only. AC is ducted but controlled directly on the overhead unit only.

I don't believe you can add AC control without a lot of work. Does your t-stat control a fan speed or just the heater on and off? If it's just a heater on and off you can have it swapped out in about 15 minutes. 14 minutes to drill holes for new screws and 1 minute to wire it.

Find a way to remove the thermostat cover (it probably just pulls off) and see how many wires come out of the wall. It's probably just two which when connected together turn the heater on. Are the terminals labeled (embossed in the plastic)?

Let us know and we can help. But yes you can do it.
