would like to do some dry camping. As much as I wish we were out west, we are currently in NC and want to know if anyone knows of areas out here to boondock?

We have 2 - 12v batteries; one group 24 and one 27. We have 60 lb of LP and 120 gallons of fresh water, no solar and no generator.

Doing dishes twice a day and the wife and I each taking a shower every day we get about 5 days out of the FW, we're not very good at conserving.

We watch all the movies we want on two LCD TVs and can run the furnace continually without completely discharging either battery.

The first thing we run out of is water. We have never run either battery dead and never run out of LP.

And we hate camp grounds.

edited for spelling.

Welcome to the forum. You should really start a new thread for your question. The deserts out west have nothing on NC except for the mild winters. NC is one of the most scenic states in the union.

NC has a wealth of boondocking in the mountain region. NC is the home to four national forests.

beemerphile1,

Not sure how to start a new thread,,,, new to the forum environment. I agree that NC should have some interesting areas. I am just not familiar with them. Was wondering if anyone out there is. Lat/Lon coordinates would be great. We are near Uwharrie. I will try to begin a new thread.

I'm right in the same class as profdant139 and Rubiranch. No solar. We have 2 group 27 12V batteries and on-board gen. I can carry 100 gal of water though. The longest we have camped in this trailer is 4 days, we don't shower just sponge baths, so bet we could go at least 2 weeks! We boondock 98% of the time, as we feel that is what camping is! Instead of spending all that money on the solar stuff, I'll put diesel in my tank and go camping a couple more times!

JH Davis, just go up to top of page and click "post new topic." It's easy. And that way, other folks who want to chime in on your issue can see the thread and jump in.

Our last rig that we sold in July was a 27 foot Sunnybrook that we owned for 5 years and was a very good trailer. One group 24 deep cycle batter would last us 4 days. It only ran the water pump and the refrigerator. Very little lights we did have a couple of LED's.

The key, be frugal. We cook almost exclusively outside, we use the oven. We don't use a TV, we seldom will play the radio. We are in the mountains and we like to do mountain things. We fish and hike a lot.

Our new rig is an Outfitter TC that we intend to use up at our mountain lake-we are club members, and just traveling. It does have an 80 watt solar panel and a couple of 6 volt batteries. No AC, we just don't use it, we will use a fantastic fan. but it does have an oven and the other usual equipment. It will get us back to the lake which is a rough road and the trailer could not do it. We do backup electrically with a little 350 watt Honda. If we need more electrical go, we will go with solar.

Let go camping!
