Three head cuts and 2 hardware store visits later I completed the install of the Shurflo pump quieting kit. I also put in a Menards 2 gallon pressure tank. The pump is a lot quieter now, and does not run with every faucet turn on. I can run a small amount of water from the faucet without the constant on-off of the pump.
This is the same tank I installed at the cottage a couple years ago, and it worked great there as well.
If I did it again, I would just buy 2 flexible connections from the hardware store instead of spending the $25 or so for the Shurflo kit. All it is is 2 tubes and 2 couplers. It really does work though.
When I tried to open my low point drains under my bath sink, I found that Jayco had ran pipes right over the top so I could not pull them open. Thanks Jayco. I had to make a plumbing mod there before I could start the real one.
I would recommend both these mods. Pic below:

If, when completion of a design is imminent, field dimensions are finally supplied as they actually are, instead of as they were meant to be, it is always simpler to start over from scratch.

Hi,
I managed to fit a gallon size expansion tank into my RV. It works a little better than the quart one that ShuFlow sells.
Both make the pump much quieter.
What air pressure are you using in the tank? I think the factory puts in about 30 PSI, anticipating it will be used in a house with a well pump. If you lower this to about 12 PSI, you will get the most drawdown possible, before the pump needs to cycle on, and then will have the most space available to store water in the air/ water tank.
Also remember to check the air pressure every year or two, in case the rubber bladder leaks.
Good Luck!

Looks good! I just finished that mod about two weeks ago. It really helps the pump to not cycle, water will run for close to a minute on mine before pump kicks on. Got my tank at Lowes for $36 and flex lines for all faucets. Quieted it down nicely! The tank I got says its pre charged at 25psi. So thats where I left it.
So if I understand right, the less psi you put in, will make it hold more water, therefore running longer without pump kicking on? Is that correct?

Fred,
The tank is factory charged at 20 psi per the manual, but I did not check it. I think I will leave it as is for now as it is working well. I also need to let my head heal before I crawl back under that lower sink cabinet again.

It helps to own a product design company with prototype capabilities.

I've considered doing this, how does it affect winterizing the RV with the tank?

My plan is to shut the valve in front of the tank after draining the system. this will prevent anti freeze from getting in the tank when I run it through the rest of the lines.

Anti-freeze won't get into the pressure tank, even with the valve open, unless you shut off all the faucets and keep pumping anti-freeze under enough pressure to overcome the pressure in your tank.
