A good friend (and occasional RVer) is a hospice doctor. She has a 41-year old patient who is dying from combined swine and common flu. She just emailed all her friends urging them to get vaccinated.

If people would stop reading the off the wall******posted on the internet, they would be a lot better off!
I dont` know why every thing has to be a plot by the government or some group to cause us harm.
Is it just possible that the drug and medical communities are trying to do what is best for us?

I had my annual flu vaccine last week just like I have done for the last 12 years. I have never "been made sick" because of it and I haven't had to suffer with the flu in well over a decade, even when after Thanksgiving one year everyone in our family who wasn't vaccinated came down with a BAD case of the flu. My sister was even hospitalized! That certainly convinced me to keep getting flu shots.
Two of our best friends brought home the "swine flu" when they returned from a cruise a few weeks ago, they were very sick. I don't want to be that sick.... I will get the H1N1 at my specialist's office next Wednesday. I am considered an elevated risk due to my Lupus. You bet I'm going to get vaccinated!
On edit: I just wanted to add that both of our friends are over 50 (51 & 53) so the theory of immunity for people over the age of 50 proved to be inaccurate.

I'll be first in line, if possible, to get the H1N1 vaccination.

I don't think this swine flu is going to go away anytime soon. The school district where I work at part time was hit with swine flu. We had to disinfect the whole school district.

My understanding is that we "Old Farts" have been exposed to similar strains of flu in the past and have a smidge of resistance?? But healthy young folks' bodies launch such a strong attack against the strange new virus, that it's like the body fights itself??
Personally, I'm not going to get ANY flu shot - only because my father and my daughter both have had unpleasant reactions to the shots (genetic flaw, obviously....LOL!). I just read that the best way to determine whether you have Swine Flu or "regular" flu is the temp - Swine Flu tends to produced 100+ degree fevers. So *if* I get flu-like symptoms with a highish fever; I'll keep in mind it's propensity to develop into pneumonia....and hopefully survive ;-) I've already got plenty of Gatorade, soup, and flu-relief drugs on hand.

What are your thoughts about the swine flu vaccine?
Personally, I wouldn't base my decision on the swine flue vaccine (or Gardasil, either....) on media reports.
As we all know, the media's bread and butter is negativity.
I pay my doctor for the very best medican advice I can get. I'd be foolish not to take it.
My thoughts about the swine flue vaccine? I'll be first in line as soon as it comes to El Paso.

Yes I will also be in line waiting to get the shot,(swine flu) and just to clarify my earlier statement, not everyone catches everything. The virus has been around before, and as someone else stated, for people over 50ish, If they had it when young, already have an immunity to it. Now if you were lucky than not to get it, than yes it is a possibility that you can get it now, no matter what age you are.
Bottom line, if you are not afraid of it, and you don't want to get that sick, than you should get the shot,IMHO.

I'm a bit more concerned about the vaccine itself. It seems that it's been rushed through to have something available. There's been no studies done on it, and no one knows what the long-term effects of this vaccine are.
I have not had my girls get the Gardasil vaccine for the same reasons, and it turns out, from the numerous media reports I'm hearing, that I was right in not having them get the series of Gardasil vaccines.

If they are doing the shot, I would say go for it. If it's the Nasal spray vaccine, RUN. This is the advice I have also heard from many doctors in our area. Shot has no live cultures, spray does.

I hate to have to agree with Joe on this one, but I do. From the research I have done on the swine flu vaccine, the LAST thing you would want is for them to get the nasal mist form. That is an active (although weakened) form of the virus. Our schools are offering the same thing...free swine flu vaccinations. The information they sent home did not say whether it was the nasal mist or the shot though. I am on the fence about the shot. They did seem pretty rushed to get it out and I am somwewhat nervous about unknown side effects.
If they are doing the shot, I would say go for it. If it's the Nasal spray vaccine, RUN. This is the advice I have also heard from many doctors in our area. Shot has no live cultures, spray does.
