I returned my CPAP machine today. Never could get used to it.
It was hot and uncomfortable.
Also told them. This was a BIG waste of Medicare money. Over $6000.0 for the 2 day test.
I know Medicare did not pay the full amount.

I just bought a new cpap yesterday, an Everest 3. Runs on 110v 12v or battery pack. Bought two batteries and the mobile adaptor and the humidifier. After my old one (going on 12 years old) this one is virtually silent.
It should not be hot unless you are using a humidifier and heat is turned up, other then that it should be room temperature. Are you using a full mask? I use nasal pillows and don't find it uncomfortable. I tried the full mask but did not like it. My daughter used to sell cpap's in Calgary so I used to try out all the new stuff. My DW also works for Airgas here in Regina so I get stuff to try from them also.
For me it has worked out because I sleep a lot better then without and without I could keep the house awake with the snoring. Used to come home from work and sit on the couch and I would fall asleep and I had a hard time keeping away to drive etc as well as at work. After the sleep lab and getting the cpap I am awake all the time and only sleep at night and no more problems driving and getting drossy.

I too, can't imagine why it would be hot unless the humidifier was turned up. But surely your cpap distributor would have instructed you on how to use the unit. They can be uncomfortable until you get use to the mask and straps. The ability it gives in providing a good night sleep (for you and loved ones) far outweighs the uncomfortableness.
$6000... yikes!!! Maybe you meant $600 and just typed in another "0" by mistake. I don't think I've ever heard of a cpap that cost more than $1000. Most masks are around $100 and that usually includes the 6' tube.
If you have sever snoring problems or sleep apnea, a cpap machine is an excellent method to control both and I think you should give it another try...if not for yourself, then for your loved ones who have to put up with you every night.

When I got mine about 11 years ago, I didn't think I would ever get use to it. I would put it on and then in a little while I would take it off and sling it across the room. I finally made myself at least put it on every night when I went to bed. I didn't always wear it all night, however I put it on regardless. It took me about seven weeks until I could sleep all night with it on.
Now it's like a pacifier, I can hardly sleep without it. I feel so much better using it than I did before. Now when I wake up, I feel like I have had a good nights sleep. I later switched to nasal pillows and like them better than the mask because they seal better.
Sleep apnea can cause some serious health problems if left untreated.

Yes, it's tough. It took me 6 months to get used to mine.
The alternative is a whole bunch of health problems.

are you including a sleep study in that $6,000? if not something is wrong. the CPAPS i see on the shelf are about $1200 at most. But it is your fault if you only gave it a two day test.
I was told that when I was in the hospital in a coma I had O2 problems or rather CO2 problems and that since I couldn't tolerate a CPAP mask for over 20 minutes they did a trach on me. But when I was given the choice later of keeping the trach tube in or getting used to the CPAP machine, within 2 weeks I got rid of the trach tube.

I'm on my second cpap. Got the first 9 years ago and keep it in the trailer because it runs on 12 volt. The new one requires a 12 v. adapter for $75. I put the mask on the first night and had NO trouble getting used to it. Never used the ramp up function either. If, for some reason like a stuffy nose, I can't use it, I'm aware all night that I'm not sleeping well and feel like c**p the next day. Sleep apnea, besides producing snoring, can lead to strokes, heart attacks, and premature death. People with apnea stop breathing for various lengths of time while "sleeping." Stop long enough and you die. During my sleep study I stopped breathing more than 60 times an hour. No wonder I wanted to nap all day. Do yourself and your family a huge favor and get used to it. There are various kinds of masks available. Maybe you just tried the wrong one for you.

I'm on my third machine in 16 years. You need to adjust your humidifier. Sometimes I have to use a nasal spray to keep my sinuses clear while sleeping. If you need it, you need it. If you had a brain tumor or a bad heart valve, would you operate on yourself? My sleep study/c-pap machine wasn't anywhere near $6000. My machine and mask was only $1200 and I get a new mask for about $115.00 every six months. Mask looks to be worth $17.95 but..................JMHO

Yes the $6000.0 included the sleep testing also. Still a rip off on insurance/medicare.
Well machine is gone. Yes I had a full mask and did not use the humidifyer feature.
With the machine could not sleep through the night. Without I sleep very well. Unless Mother nature comes a calling.
