I could go on a two week vacation in Hawaii for what I spend during 4 months in a trailer in Florida.
I am photosensitive as are many people. Winter's lack of sunlight is depressing. The least sunlight is around the 21st of December and that is why so many people are depressed around the holidays.
I can walk my two poodles around the lake every morning in Florida or stare out the window and watch it snow at home after spending all that money in Hawaii.
BUT the best is I like my neighbors who are fellow campers in Florida. Campers are good people. My neighbors at home are only friendly when they need something.

For me it is simple...-35C with windchills up to minus 50 for at least 3 months plus at least 2 months of balmier weather -10.-20C plus 1 month of probable flooding or..
snowbirding = no snowblowing/frostbite..We should have left for Texas already. The weather liar has been hard at it..

We fiqure the fuel cost going and coming is about the only thing that is higher than staying home as what we pay for CG offsets the savings on the home up north.

Something no one talked about is how much the R V that you winter in cost, and how much a year it deprecate, I have gone south 14 years and hope to spend another winter in the Sun Shine State, but as for as saving, can,t say I do but will say it is what I worked my whole life for in order to be able to do just that, and if there is any thing left when I am gone its because I misfigured

I agree with you, it cost to buy a RV no matter what type, you lose money on it every year, fuel to get where your going and back. Food, lot rental, electric, propane, and entertainment. But: "What is life? it is but a vapor, here for a while, then gone". So one might as well live life.

Many people have the RV for camping & traveling the rest of the year up North or out West so in that case they are just getting use out of their RV the whole year instead of just in the Summer.

Maybe I'm from a different mind set, but the way we see it; it cost you money to stay home or travel. You work all your life in order to sit back later and enjoy!!!
We spent many years messing around with boats (boat= hole in water you throw money into) I can tell you that it is far cheaper to fill the MH & cover more area than to fill the boat for an hour ride down the bay to Annapolis. So the countdown meter says 40 days to departure date, next stop FL.

I don't think we ever considered snowbirding as a way to save - other than saving sanity. Too much yucky, grey, snowy, blustery weather makes one nuts. When our time came to leave for the winter we didn't think twice and just headed south. I would guess it all evens itself out but it really doesn't matter. As others have said; we worked, we saved, we left.

I don't ever think of having the good life as a cost issue.
My cardiologist says there are no "redos" in life so you might as well enjoy yourself.
This will be our first "snowbird" attempt but we have traveled about 15,000 miles this year so far and it really doesn't matter where we are we eat, drink, gamble and generally find stuff to spend money on. From what I can tell right now it looks like we will be doing this until God won't let us anymore, period.
If you are worrying about money , don't, it will not be needed after this place in life, have fun.

As a Canadian for us we save money by snow-birding. Like I always say if you drink 30 cans of beer a week, you eat for free because of the price difference in booze between Canada and the US. The savings will buy all the groceries you need. The same goes for wine or the hard stuff. Fuel is close to a dollar cheaper in the US as well. Groceries are about 30% cheaper, so all in all we save money by heading south for the winter. Entertainment we would do in both places but much cheaper in the US. The list could go on and on. The only additional cost we have is travel insurance. We boondock so RV parks is not an issue for us.
