Au contraire, mon frère. It'll set you back $30/month.

I think Mr. Wizard has it right-- while Verizon confirms that tethering will be supported, it apparently isn't yet. Everything I've read says that it won't be available until sometime in 2010.

Of course, AT&T has made similar promises for the Iphone for years.

A quote from the article linked to by TechWriter.

Verizon has confirmed that customers will have the option of connecting a laptop to their new Motorola Droid smartphones, on sale tomorrow, using the phone as a wireless modem. The carrier won't say exactly when customers can do this tethering but they are exact about what it will cost: typically, an extra $30 per month, doubling Droid-related data fees.

Are they forcing data plans on the droid? I've got a Dare now and use the "pay as you use" data option since it never adds up to what I would have to pay for the full data plan.

i have been using a unlocked iphone on tmobile for a year. then i decided to try the mytouch android. its not terrible but its not an iphone either. tried it for 2-3 weeks before giving it to dw. and back to my iphone. i do not like motorola phones, had a few, and they suck. and yes my plan was unlimited internet for 19.99 then when i signed on the android plan my internet went to 35$ and when i called them and told them that the mytouch sucked move me back to my old plan, they said they couldnt til my 2 year contract was over. shot myself in the foot.

Access MGR not yet updated more importantly I have been unable to find a modem driver for the Motorola A855 Droid, not yet released
tethering is supported for other phones BUT NOT yet for the Droid

The droid is a smart phone & requires a $30 or more data plan
Smart phones on vzw have Always required data plan, even if it was a pay as you go data plan,

I wonder if tethering can be turned on and off like the Dare.

I got mine at 7 this morning. Heavy phone for sure. Never used a smart phone before so it is all new to me. I did discover very quickly however that the Verizon BackUp Assistant does not recognize the droid, so I have to go back tonight and get all my contacts uploaded to the droid....

What plan are people going with? I looked at the available plans and they all seem to be pretty costly. The plans below $80/month were charged data at $1.99 per mb while the $80 and $100 plans had unlimited data. Too rich for my blood and per mb scares the heck out of me.

Wow - seems pretty steep. I only pay $59/month for my iPhone and 450 minutes with rollover minutes. I do have a vendor discount but not 40%!!! I guess they charge me less because AT&T has such a lousy footprint.

With a smart phone you want to pick the basic voice plan with minuts that cover your useage, then you add the $30 web plan to that or the $60 If you want tethering

The iPhone also requires a $30 data to what ever your voice plan is,
AFAIK, the only people paying less bought the iphone and Jailbroke it and are using a different sim card
