Here's what happened the last time I flew: the hip sets off the metal detector. The card (I have one, too) means NOTHING to them - any terrorist could make a similar card.

Thanks for the confirmation with the first-hand experience. That's pretty much what I would've expected.

I stopped flying when I realized I was paying upward of $1,500 for about 10-12 hours of complete misery for my family.

I can get that from the backseat of my TV on some of the longer hauls and it's basically free.

LOL, ANY trip in the RV beats a flight anyday.

Gotta disagree. There's something to be said about hopping on a plane, letting someone else do the "driving", settling into a nice, comfy first class seat (hubby has racked up hundreds of thousands of miles) and in hours being somewhere that would take days to drive to. And I don't have to worry about low bridges or fitting into a gas station. Do I prefer the MH for certain reasons? Yup, sure do, but if you start getting paranoid about what MIGHT happen or what might be lurking somewhere you'd never leave the house, especially in light of the members here who have lost RVs to fires and accidents.

Yeah, flying is great. Get to the airport at 5am (for your 7am flight), pay a fortune to put your car in the long-term lot (where it might as well have a sign on it: OWNER AWAY, STEAL ME!), head into the terminal. Spend an hour and a half going through security, where any attractive females are picked out to be fondled...err, "patted down" and you get the third degree because of the bottle of hand sanitizer you packed is 0.2oz too large to bring on the plane. Get packed through the chute into the cattle pen...err, the PLANE, and discover that you have to cram yourself into the middle seat (ergonomically designed for an undernourished 12-year-old) between two 350-pounders with strict cultural taboos against bathing, and who have crammed parcels that should have been sent LTL freight in the overhead bin, filling it completely. The plane takes off (precisely at 8:30), and the infants begin shrieking. As you hit some mild turbulance, someone vomits, adding that lovely aroma to the cabin. When you land and disembark (after 2 hours waiting on the tarmac), you discover that your luggage isn't here, because it's enroute to Bora Bora.

I'd rather hitch-hike than fly.

Lots of reasons not to fly and I agree with most.

But the most important thing for me is

THE TRIP IS AS IMPORTANT AS THE DESTINATION.

Why fight the crowds, rude people, seats sized for teeny boppers, and airport hassles when you can sit back in a leather captains chair, crank up the music, and enjoy the scenery all the way?

We went to Las Vegas for a funeral and we drove are van and left the RV at home. Big Mistake! Big! Why I could not sleep because the hotel bed was uncomfortable. $50 for Lunch on the strip at a cafe for four. $50. $40 of snacks at various gas stations and one cranky Mommie. Not enough hotel towels although I prearranged extra towels for my husband. I was miserable. No Refrig, no healthy snacks on the road. I told my DH that next time we leave home its the RV or nothing. MY mother came in after us and endup right next door. TOO INTRUSIVE! Moms a nosy body and judgemental about everything. I went through RV Withdrawls this weekend. Another reason why I'd weather RV.
