I am sure the reasons are there, but I am wondering why a camper cover would be important. I do live in Ohio with a 2009 Palomino Stampede s17. So, what are my reasons for coverage during winter...
1. Does it protect the rubber roofing? Does ice/snow make it more vulnerable to cracking?
2. ??????
Thanks for any input.

Hi,
Covers often do more damage than leaving an RV uncovered. Where I live in extreme cold no one uses one at all.

I cover because it protects the camper finish and roof it also keeps the roof clean from all the leaves. It is easier to wash and clean the roof and camper in the spring. I will always cover every camper I own.

We see it as extra insurance. Snow & ice sitting on the camper roof can work its way through & leak a lot easier without a cover than with one. It can't replace good sealing & caulking, of course, but can help be another barrier against the moisture seeping into the camper over the winter. Let's face it, it's not always possible to get up & clear the snow/ice off the camper roof every time it falls.
Wind can be a problem with a cover. If the camper is stored in an unprotected area, subject to wind, you'll need to make sure the cover is snugged down really well, or the cover could rub off some of the camper's finish when flapping in the wind. (Our storage area is very well protected from wind, so we haven't had any problems with damage from the cover in 5 years.)

Your choice. We've not covered any of our trailers (had 3, for over 180,000 miles total). Both 1st and 2nd trailers sold at over book, so guess they were not damaged by having no cover. Only car we ever covered is current convertable, which is stored in garage, mostly. Never had trouble with cars either.
Don't see dealers covering RVs in their lots either.

The only reason we cover our camper in the winter is because we park it under a bunch of trees (mostly Pine) which tend to drop sap over everything. So it helps keep it clean. We also cover the tires to protect them from the sun. If I had an open area to store the camper, I probably wouldn't cover it.

Never covered ours and haven't noticed a lot of folks around here covering either. So far, so good.

The cover protects the trailer from the freeze-thaw-freeze cycle that will open every crack and seam in the trailer; the same as it makes those potholes in Ohio roads. We get 12 feet of snow in the Snow Belt and it's a constant freeze-thaw-freeze cycle during the winter. Even the seals around the windows can open minutely and the roof is a giant target.
Harsh winter sun does the finish no good either.
We're going into a large barn at the fairgrounds in about 10 days. Best cover made is a barn. The breathable ADCOs are inexpensive and do an excellent job.

Ditto, in my 4th year of covering, I have seen no damage as some state from covering. By far, most do not cover.

5 years out in the elements and all but one of our decals have peeled off. I had one decal left and I noticed that it was peeling. I will be getting the scraper out and taking whats left off. I plan to purchase new decals but at $75 each it might take a while to replace them all. Our next camper will be covered!
