IMO you gotta have full hookups, including 50 amp electricity AND sewer/septic.
Otherwise, it's too big of a hassle.
IMO boondocking works good for 5 days, then you'll want to move on. It's not just about "freedom",....'convenience' rates right up there with it.

I completely agree with CDancer. We stay for long periods of time and needs and convenience in the park outweigh any travel time to jobsite.

We had a new idea: part of our need is fiscal. There's a lot in Frederick upon which we'd be glad to build a house someday of the economy or our health warranted it; meanwhile, it's a good investment as a desireable lot to acquire in a down economy. It's got no covenants, town water, and access. Surely paving a pad on the lot and bringing electricity to the RV home wouldn't be that hard? (We'd still need to go to a dump station about once a week, and ship on propane and gas in order to run the heat and appliances.) How does that sound for fall months?
I'd do alot more checking on the viability of "camping" on a lot anywhere in Maryland. There are most likely city/county ordinances prohibiting this. Most of Maryland will not even allow the use of a mobile home unless you have more than 25 acres...

Yep; you're right. Corresponded back and forth with an official in the county zoning department and he said "no dice." Back to square one (trying not to get discouraged).

In Woodbine, MD there is an RV Park called Ramblin Pines, and it's only 21 miles from Frederick...might be a possiblity. West of Frederick there is a Jellystone Campground in Williamsport, it is about 30 miles...another possiblity.

Hmmm. Fairgrounds. Maybe only for storage, tho? No hook ups surely. But, THANKS~ You folks are helping me think this out well. I appreciate it!

Official website of the Maryland Association of Campgrounds.
They have an interactive map feature when you click the "Find a Park" menu.
There are several campgrounds within a reasonable distance of Frederick.
Keep in mind that Frederick is not that far from the Antietam Battlefield (which is open year-round), and there are both a Yogi Bear Jellystone Park and a KOA near Antietam. Frederick is in the Catoctin Mountains area, which is a popular skiing destination, so there are definitely going to be other campgrounds (besides Yogi and KOA)that are open year round. Whether full hookups (especially water) will be available after temps drop to freezing (November) is another matter.
Also, Frederick is a reasonable distance from the Pennsylvania border to the north, the Virginia border to the south, and the West Virginia border to the southwest. Gettysburg PA, with its GLUT of RV parks, is a few miles Northeast of Frederick.
Good luck, and happy camping!

The Maryland State Fairgrounds is in Timonium, north of Baltimore on I83. They do have hookups and a dump station, but it's a bit far from Frederick. I've seen the area set aside for RVs and the electrical boxes didn't look very ... um ... reliable.
